This caught my eye too. Is this popular just for the cover? Or because of the "allure" of the artist? I think most like the Ekgren covers in the following order: Weird Horrors #7, Weird Horrors #6, and then considerably less so Strange Terrors #4.

If anything, it's a conversation piece...because nobody can figure out what the heck is going on with the cover... Everyone says it's phallic, but I'm not convinced that was the intent. There's the vague body in the background without a head, and a head in the forefront on a pedestal. That's what I see...but others see a pornographic image. Personally, I don't know what it is...but I admit I WANT to know...

Regardless of what I just said, I respect this image btw. Something about Ekgren calls to me...think his style is cool as sh*t.

I assume you must be referring to these 2 covers here then:

Looks like both od these Weird Horrors covers by Ekgren sold in the same CC Event Auction back in the summer of 2012.  :luhv:  :luhv:  :takeit:

Why yes, those are the ones I’m championing. My #7. Fighting the urge for a #6...

@kav... how long would it take someone to draw the cover of that "Strange Terrors" #4 above ???

paint you mean.  2 weeks.

I thought it would have taken much longer than that.

I remember Steranko's 7-page story, "At The Stroke Of Midnight" in the first issue of Tower of Shadows apparently took him almost countless months to write, layout, and illustrate as he was just so meticulous at that point in his career. :taptaptap:  :taptaptap:  :luhv:

The whole idea of Joker bugs me.  I have dealt with actual insane people.  They do not make good masterminds about anything.  They tend to get apprehended quickly, for one thing.

He doesn't make a good mastermind

The movie the Joker was a true representative of what he is- a broken fragmented human being

based on the detailed painting I have done and I'm quicker than most I give it 2 weeks-maybe one.

My question is why is one of #7’s eyes black, and the other colored. This doesn’t jive with my OCD. And then there’s the vertical cut...generous top-cut shows the full radiance of the “sun”, and generous bottom cut shows the full yellow “thingamabob”...both obviously part of the original artwork. Neither right or wrong...

are these books confirmed to be worth many multiples of surrounding issues?

Can confirm that's not the case for the Whiz Comics one.

The only one from the Whiz comics run that sells a lot higher just because of the cover is Whiz Comics  153. It sells for 5 times the price of Whiz comics 152

WHIZ Comics #153 - Read WHIZ Comics Issue #153 Online

It transcends the standard monthly comic cover. I love that it's disturbing, risky and surreal. It's also a contemporary, striking and original realization which perfectly complements the character. Honestly, you shouldn't want to look at the Joker: He represents madness, cruelty, murder -- the worst of humanity. Yet this image has the power to draw you in because you really have to get into the detail of it, going against the viewer's (most likely) initial reaction to be somewhat repulsed. From there, it provokes further thought about his relationship with the Bat. Is it pleasing to look at? Perhaps no, but I think it is one of the best, most faithful interpretations of the crazy, psychopathic Joker I've ever seen.

Yup

It's really a captivating cover. I like it a lot and I don't even own a copy.
