The cover relates to a concentration camp story, but the numbers on the wrist are only on the cover. It's a little vague as the camp is referred to as a concentration camp, and includes atrocities associated with the death camps, but the prisoners all seem more like POWs. The camp name is made up, and it's the Torture Master ( Camp Commandant) who gets attacked by ragged prisoners at the end. My guess is that Brodsky and Burgos were just told the title and setting before drawing the cover.

A recent pick up. Atlas Tales credits this cover to Brodsky on pencils, and Burgos on inks. A great cover whoever did it, with bonus points for no sidebar clutter. This title is a hybrid horror/adventure book at this point, and none of the stories have a supernatural element, though EC style retribution abounds. The first story is a tale of literal animal vengeance set in Africa, and features excellent Tuska artwork. The title story is a gruesome POW camp tale, superbly illustrated by Russ Heath. The third is a tragic boxing tale by Maneely, reminiscent of some of Atlas' better war stories, in which there is no justice for the dead. Finally we have Romita illustrated story of greed and cruelty set in Edwardian England, with a dose of tragic irony at the end. All in all one of the better Atlas reads of the era.

Got a copy myself just last month. What clinched it for me was that in person I finally noticed the tattoo / brand on the wrist on the hand on the cover that I'd never noticed while looking at scans. Links to the POW story, doesn't it? Can't recall. And what a line up for the art inside :cloud9:

I think I posted pics of the Heath POW story a few years back in this thread. It's a spectacular one, very gruesome!

Men's Adventures and Menace are my two favorite Atlas horror titles.

I would say that Adventures Into Terror and Journey Into Unknown Worlds are my two favorite Atlas titles.

Favorites?!!?

You guys are picking favorites now?

Impossible for me to do as even an Atlas book with a so so cover could contain a hidden gem of a story! But for consistency of great interior art, covers and story I would imagine Menace to prevail. But I do love my AIT and Spellbounds! :luhv:
