Popular Post Pantodude
Didn't know there was an Amazing Stories thread. I posted these in the Sci-Fi section couple hours ago. Amazing Stories Quarterly (Spring 1931). Generally credited with introducing the concepts of "warp drive" and "hyperspace" to science fiction in the included novel by John W. Campbell, Jr., "Islands of Space." Finding the references was a trip in itself. As a Star Trek and Star Wars and just generally big sci-fi fan, all I can say is Yeah Baby! juniperpt, Pat Calhoun, PopKulture and 2 others
Pantodude
Amazing Stories (August, 1931 v6#5). "Tractor beam" was coined by American science fiction author E. E. Smith in 1931 in his novel Spacehounds of IPC, first serialized in this pulp! Yeah Baby squared!! Popular Post Primetime
Received my first two, ginormous (8” x 11”) bedsheet AS pulps in the mail today…. March, 1928 Classic 🌙moonbeam🌙 death 💀 ray cover by Frank R. Paul. I love the dragon 🐉 on the chest of Mr. Fu-Manchu, the dragons 🐉 along the side of the building, and the ninja 🥷 looking 👀 dudes. The moonbeam of death appears to be powered by that massive gem 💎 Thanks @Amerifor showing it to me. I was immediately hooked. @BitterOldMan do you like it? Popular Post Primetime
Here’s the other pulp… January, 1928 Dave Smith of Fantasy Illustrated calls this a radiator robot 🤖 Nonetheless, it’s another wild Frank R. Paul cover that @Ameriinsists is a semi swipe/reverse image of Paul’s famous Marvel Comics 1 cover from 1939 (The Greatest Comic Book ever published)… Pretty cool if that was Paul’s slightest intention 👍🏽 Edited July 22, 2023 by Primetime Ameri, comicjack, Randall Dowling and 3 others

I have never seen this amazing Yellow Peril cover. I have read the Fu Manchu clones, the Mysterious Wu Fang and Dr. Yen Sin. Sax Rohmer sued them out of business. In the truly horrible 1961 Hammer film, “Terror of the Tongs”, starring Christopher Lee as the villain, there is a scene where after a wild night of debauchery, including an orgy and drugs, a hatchet man is sent to kill an envoy, who has incriminating evidence against the tongs. As the victim disembarks, the assassin shouts in Cantonese, “F’ You!” Even though I was born in the United States, my first language is Cantonese, dialect of the ghetto Chinese from Hong Kong and Southern China. As my college room mate would tell me, many men smoke, but Fu Manchu. 😫 Primetime, waaaghboss and Randall Dowling
Popular Post Ameri
Not Amazing Stories but thought I'd post these here. Paul's apprenticeship with Hugo Gernsback actually started with "Electrical Experimenter," a magazine for radio enthusiasts. This was years before Amazing Stories. These interior illustrations are from the Nov 1919 and Apr 1920 issues. Primetime, PopKulture, Pat Calhoun and 3 others
Ameri
Got this one today. I was curious about the scientifiction emblem. It was introduced in this Sept 1928 issue. A contest was held and they took a little bit of the 1st prize winner, 2nd prize winner and 3rd prize winner submissions to come up with the finished piece. I read that Paul put together the finished piece. OtherEric, PopKulture, Primetime and 1 other

Popular Post Ameri
This one arrived today. Forrest Ackerman commissioned Paul in 1960 to do the recreation below. Ackerman (the founder and editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland) said the Oct 1926 issue inspired his lifelong vocation to fantasy.
