It seems like you outperform my selling screw-ups, was another response indicated in regards to that graph?

This is why we need more variety in the reactions. I wanted sorrow, Eric, for my plight. Deep sorrow

Wonder where this puts my 6.0, price-wise?

In the 'jolly financially attractive' category, I would say. Oh, and I hate you, by the way

I sold mine, grade around FN/VFN, just over a year ago for £250 ish. I imagine Duncan gets a lot of eyes on his listings which boosts his sales above the prices us mere mortals achieve.

So Out of this World 17 is worth $£$£$s because it is the first occasion that the Spider-man story from AF 15 was reprinted? What about Marvel Tales No1 which appeared circa September 1964 and features that infamous story. Nobody apart from Alan (and no doubt he has forgotten) knows exactly when OOTW17 first was published. The GCD gets all its Class dates in a knot. It says October 1964 which may or may not be right. Alan has been quoted as saying he published 10 issues of his comics per year, rather than exactly monthly. I suspect OOTW17 may have appeared in 1965. I believe I got my (new at the time) copy in 1966 or 1967 on holiday  at somewhere exotic like Skegness.

So lets agree that OOTW17 was the first time AF15 contents appeared in black and white in the UK. But I would only give the UK comic value if it sported the AF15 cover image too. I would have thought that when Odhams in the UK began reprinting Spider-man from the beginning they would have started at the beginning. But Pow! number one began with ASM1. The next time the Spider-man AF15 story appeared in the UK was in The Mighty World of Marvel number 1 in 1972 when Marvel UK began. But that comic used an odd/horrible green and black colour scheme. So the second time the Spider-man AF15  story was reprinted in the UK in black and white (in a larger magazine size and on better paper than the Class comic) was in a Spider-man Summer Special in 1979. Unlike the recent sales of OOTW17 this issue can still be picked up for tuppence. My tip is that although they were produced in quantity, now might be the time to buy "key" Marvel UK comics whilst they are still under the radar.

That issue still sported the odd "eyes" panel which was changed for future US reprints.

I think the distinction is that OOTW#17 is said to be the first reprint of AF#15's Spidey story outside of the US.

Perhaps the first REPRINT of it (period).  Anywhere.  And the FIRST printing in B&W.

I doubt it was reprinted in the US before OOTW.

@Yorick I'm not sure where I got September 1964 from for the Marvel Tales 1 Annual. And the GCDs dates for Class comics are guesswork at best. So you're saying OOTW17 was available prior to 11th June 1964?

I believe I've seen 1963 as a print date for OOTW17 somewhere, but Class print dates seem murky at best. I'm also a newb to this stuff, so take that into consideration as well.

I do not know.  I was assuming that Marvel wouldn't reprint the AF15 Spidey material so soon after it's initial printing.  But thank you for the info regarding the Marvel Tales #1.  That isn't too big a window before they reprinted the story here in the US.

In either case, US comics are not typically printed in black and white unless it's an underground.  So OOTW17 would most likely be the first time it was printed in that format.

I wouldn't be surprised if it topped $400 the way that these AC reprints have been going lately. Stan's sig may add a bit more. We have a couple of hours before we know.

The final price was $598.88 with a postage charge of $60.21. The purchaser, I surmise, was in the UK.
