You can walk around a show like that and play "trash or treasure" trying to guess if a work is a pile of trash, or a sculpture

a bronze trash bag

Any idea how much that "trash bag" sculpture in the middle is worth?  lol

Thinking of going up and down my ally in the back and hoping to gather up tens of millions of dollars worth of these sculptures on garbage day.  Hopefully, they worth a lot more if they have the authentic garbage smell to them and the ususal bugs and worms crawling out of them.  :flipbait:

Ah, the famous hot potato pay copy.

Not just the Pay Copy.  It seemed like all high grade copies of MC 1 were tossed around like hot potatoes on Heritage for a few years.

Fixed.  But, it is pretty close to an Oct. copy. with that really inadequate version of the black out stamp.  One of the first to come off the press of the Nov. run I'd bet.

I would assume so.  I think Id rather have the pay copy over an yOctober copy

I've seen Rothkos in person and found them even more annoying than in pictures.  Because in person it's even more clear there is nothing special about them at all and they are usually accompanied by a museum plaque describing them with word-salad nonsense that conjures the image of a con artist attempting to justify their valuations for stupid rich people.

This is true of all modern art.  It is about creating a perspective that there is something special about the artwork.  There is an artist that has a “unique” technic with how he produces artwork.  In addition he uses a special trowel because his work is produced by painting hundreds of layers of paint and then scraping them with this special trowel he has been using for almost two decades.  The art gallery implies he may stop producing art when the trowel can no longer be used and that means his work will skyrocket.

The technique he uses is used by many other artist.  Some scrap, some sand, some grind, some sandblast.  It is all marketing spin.  With Rothko, getting the brand “can’t be restored becuase his technique is so special and unique” is pure brilliance.
