I remember the day I bought this back in Dec 1979. We were taking my infant son Crane down to the East Bay (Berkeley-Oakland) for his first visit to Gina's pals there. While Gina was catching up with them Crane and I made our first bookstore run. $50 was heap o' scrill to us: but the magic kicked in, and I ended up with two children in tow...

collectors gonna collect...   these two are sets of the book award winners and random house top-100 novels of the 20th century list.   I’m probably 2 years behind, but insofar as the award books are concerned (nba, pen-faulkner, booker, pulitzer...) they’re complete, tho’ many of the early pulitzers aren’t firsts.

Trying to figure out what the first Hardcover editions on the first 14 books are must have been interesting; I'm guessing a combination of book club editions, foreign editions, and just plain later releases in HC?

I was actually considering grabbing a 1st print Lonely Silver Rain at the bookstore earlier today.

I've got several JDM firsts, he was an amazing writer.
