What are your 2022 collecting goals?

I'd like to get a handle on my collection: get rid of the books I don't want, keep the ones I enjoy, and purchase the ones I don't have yet. I'd like to get some of my basement back. My biggest hurdle will be time. It's much easier, and I'm guessing more fun, to look and buy than to grade, list, package, and ship. I've never sold a book so if I can sell just one before Dec. 31st, I'll consider that a huge win.

I'd also like to start reading more of my collection since it's mostly books from before I was collecting as a kid.

I have several goals for 2022

One piece of artwork, prefer a Schulz daily, Romita Spiderman, D ick Sprang Batman, Ketcham Dennis the Menace, or a Jack Davis piece

CGC graded Batman 72, 76, 86, and/or 90 in 7.0 or higher.

CGC graded Spiderman 39, 40, 76, 80, 87, 98, 103, 104, 112, 113, 116, 117, 134, 141, 143, and/or 145

Get my Batman 1, 8, 59, 65, 70, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 98, and 99 graded

Add at least three Aurora model kits (monster, dinosaur, Super hero, or TV based)

Frame my two Marmaduke pieces

Send in some of my "for sell" stuff to CGC (at least 40 books)

Participate in at least one board virtual conventions with all new material.

So far

Ketcham Dennis the Menace - mission accomplished

Spiderman 98 acquired

Submitted Batman 59, 65, 70, 92, 93, 94, 95, and 98 for grading

Submitted about 15 books for future sales

If we are keeping track like a weight loss support group. I sorta stayed focused on only the written list for the January CL auctions. I wound up picking up several Gi Joe and other copper books that seemed cheap compared to last year. I did not upgrade anything yet, and looking at current prices that may not happen again this year.

Off the list so far

Primer 2

Spawn 174

Brave and Bold 57

Wonder Woman 200

Transformers 8

And to prove how terrible I am at this at times, the CL invoice has 19 books on it, so 15 that were not on any list inbound.

I see I had no aspirations from last year, according to the posted time capsule thread in the first post.

Seeing I think I did ok this year, pretty much the same then next year.

In reality I might dial it back a little and save some actual cash, for the future, not sure.

:roflmao:

I still haven't made a goal in forever it seems, although I've been happy, apparently ignorance is bliss!

Well, my goals for 2022 have been somewhat accomplished...I got a superb piece of Byrne Bronze Age Champions art in February and a new FF #52 from Comiclink in August (below).  Still need a few books (TTA 27, FF 4, AV1, and TOS 57) to finish off my SA key list, so I'm hoping for one more comic by 2023.

My collecting goal for 2022 is to get an All-American Comics #16.

Over the course of 2020 and 2021, I’ve managed to obtain a few of my grail books like TEC #168, Flash Comics #86, Amazing Fantasy #15, and Hulk #1.

Next year shouldn’t be any different since it’s either go big or go home! B|

How my goal is going so far… and to be fair, I did expect that to happen.

Lofty but worthy!

My 2022 collecting goals?  Fairly modest, really: I'd just like to have the 9-book Economy submission that was delivered to CGC on August 26, 2021 back in hand.  :taptaptap:

Me as well! But make it October,  some September's have already shipped for others, I feel bad that the squeaky wheels are. :pullhair:

It is an annual tradition.  First, let's look at what I wrote last year:

What did I accomplish?

  • I did buy a Cap 48
  • I did buy another War Cover (Walt Disney Comics and Stories 22)
  • Maybe a 1st Deadpool because I never owned a copy?  I bought three.
  • I upgraded an issue in my slabbed AF15-ASM 100 run by upgrading ASM 58 from a CGC 8.0 to a CGC 9.2.
  • Sell more stuff...

Sell more stuff?

I wound up selling off eight 25 gallon rubbermaid containers of stuff.  That's 200 gallons.  There were containers that fit under beds that I got rid of.  I seriously reduced the amount of plastic crack.  I have been planning this since the beginning of 2020.  For example, at that point I had over 500 GI Joe figures.  At this point I have less than 30.   I seriously cut into the Lego.  I was able to get rid of three short boxes of comics. I went for things that take up space and not so much value.  I cleared out cabinets, drawers and bookshelves.  I was able to get rid of a couple of bookshelves.  The idea was to severely reduce the footprint of 'stuff' in this house.

Ever since the pandemic started and I was working from home I realized that the house was just a place to sleep, entertain, and store my stuff and that had to change.   So it was time to make it a home.

Now, I have been selling stuff to buy more stuff since I was a teenager.  As I mentioned, I remember selling death of Superman issues to my teachers.  It's been a long time coming but after staying the course,  I am going to take a break this year.   I even discontinued my CGC membership, mostly because of quality control issues, but to stay away from that routine as well.

I might sell a few things locally that were too big to ship.  For example, I still have not committed myself to selling the giant Star Wars Sail Barge but if I do that is going to be sold locally.   Also the more I sold the more I discovered I had packed away in the storage room.  Shortly before Christmas I found all the Brio wooden railway toys from the 80's that my brother and I had.  That's too heavy to ship and has to go locally.

The real thing is, and it is something that I have mentioned privately to a few people here, I have most everything I could ever reasonably get.  So at where is the line between buying what I want versus chasing a never ending list of things I do not have?

So my want list?

  • Superman 24
  • 50's / 60's Sci Fi page of Art, (Strange Adventures or something like that)
  • War Cover
  • Upgrade an ASM from my run.
  • Sell more stuff locally.
  • This year's Lego modular house.  I will pick it up at one point as it was released on Saturday.

We shall see...

Let's check in...

Superman 24 continues to elude me as I missed out on two at auction this year that I liked at the last minute.   While I did not pick up a sci fi page I have wound up picking up three other pages that I was pretty excited about and the important parts of a multi character cover.  I did get the modular house I wanted but that modular Sanctum Santorum is looking pretty sweet.

Sold a few things.
