Last name looks like "Sylos", but I'm sure you see that portion.

Yeah, first name looks like Owen (possibly Gwen), middle portion looks like Lou or IouI (maybe the most perplexing part of the sig), then the Sylos.  For some reason I feel like there's a k in there (hence my greek suspicion).  I kind of think the middle part is actually involved in the last name. Ugh.

Whoa, the cover that's bound in O.o

Was that bound by the publisher?

Quote

Official publication of the Ancient Arabic Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America.

THE SHRINERS, not familiar with this magazine.

Benda at the front of the run and Rolf Armstrong at the back, there's some good fiction in there, too!

Yes.  There's a mail order advertisement in several issues to send your copies in for the special binding.  It's really lovely.  I began collecting individual issues years ago when I saw an Armstrong cover (the aviatrix cover) and then this behemoth fell into my hands!

You manage to find many issues?  Seems pretty scarce from a very cursory search.  Judging from the quality of the material, though, I think it must have had a decent circulation.

I looked through all the contents when I shared the scans at the pulp group but didn't do any digging into the nuts and bolts of ownership or distribution.

I'm usually indifferent to bound editions, but when it's bound by the publisher or for file copies those rank higher.

This binding, imo, though, adds to the value.  Maybe not.  Not really something you collect for value per se, anyways, but the beauty

Not many, but I was able to grab my favorites.  I know whereabouts I've hid them, but it'll take a little digging.  I'll take some pics when I'm there.  (thumbsu

I coulda used those about a year ago when I was making some magazine props for a "black" theater production...  I think I used Jet instead.
