He did okay.  Think I bought an ASM 15 from that thread.  Gotta support the rebels.

In Canada we don't have much choice but to sell to the US and line up to ship.  There's just too many collectors there to ignore.  US sellers can avoid selling internationally and will probably do pretty well for the same reason although I always think it could affect their sales.

I find it rude to be dismissed as a hassle

Agreed but there's nothing we can do but move on.  I keep a list of sellers who won't ship to Canada and ignore any further sales threads they run.

I've sold internationally on the boards since 2006...took a break due to heightened covid risk in 2020, but resumed in 2021... and will continue as long as I am able. I do get why it feels crappy to see so many US-only threads. Like a slap in the face to part of our community here.

The 'waiting in long lines' thing is a very real factor though. US post offices are besieged on a number of fronts. I've moved to a small town with a surprisingly good USPS location and the lines are less of a big deal for me now. Back in NYC they were off-the-charts horrible.

I've stopped shipping internationally on ebay, and sadly don't see returning to it unless I enroll in that Global Shipping program which everyone here has warned us against. I'm not confident ebay would protect me if an overseas buyer claimed non-receipt. 

I don't have any real data to back this up, but anecdotally it does feel like it is "riskier" to ship internationally today (postal delays, weather delays, covid staffing issues, you name it) than it did five or ten years ago.

I stopped international shipments due to Covid, then kept it up after I moved an extra 30 minutes from the local PO. I have two young kids and a full time career and it was too time consuming to handle the customs forms, post office lines, shipping delays and other general BS for 5-15 international boxes I would get per thread. I don't like disappointing people, but I don't see my policy changing anytime soon.

Can sellers not pay for postage via paypal? I have sent books to Canada and the buyer paid with paypal, so I just paid for postage on there.

I will continue to sell to those in the US who claim in my thread. Forms are done digitally from home, and once the proper information has been added, the label is printed, and brought to my nearest Canada Post.  No waiting, as the box is ready to be shipped. Heck, Canada Post will even take the box from your residence (if it's ready to be shipped) when they deliver regular mail to your home. And thanks to my US proxies for funneling books to me bought from threads which do not ship north. Thank you. And I'm sorry. (those last 3 words are compulsory for us, regardless the situation).

Were you shipping something first class (under 16 oz)? If so, I don't think you need a customs form. 

Whenever I sent something Priority, I had to stand in line (inevitably for 15-30 minutes) and then watch the clerk literally type every line of the customs form into the computer, generally using the world's slowest hunt and peck. Their system is insane. 

If someone knows of a better way, where I don't have to wait for Gladys the clerk to tap the minutes of my ever diminishing lifetime away, let me know.
