Most prime reading in comics growing up were the late 80s to the mid 90s. The 12 part X-cutioner's song has always been one of my favorites. I remember picking up the monthly polybagged books. Little did I know how much the artists on this run would shape the industry...Capullo, Andy Kubert, Jae Lee to name a few. First, the return of the White Queen, previously assumed dead at at the hand of Phoenix: She switches minds with Ororo as part of a trap involving Kitty coming to Emma's school. Jim Sherman and Joe Rubinstein art: The next year (publishing time), Kitty did not take her parents' divorce well. Bill Sienkiewicz (still in his Neal Adams mode) and Bob Wiacek art: Meanwhile, the New Mutants were lost on a Roman adventure in the Brazilian jungle. I need to take a clearer image of this page by Sal Buscema and Tom Mandrake. After getting home from that caper, the girls threw a slumber party for their neighborhood. Bill Sienkiewicz had adopted his new, edgier art style by then: It wasn't long before they were kidnapped to Asgard by the Enchantress. This beach scene is right after an impromptu training exercise, and right before they get attacked. The first 8 issues of the Davis/Neary Excalibur (Special plus 1-7) The Lee/Kirby FF - I love all of it but this period from about issue 38 to 51 is among the best parts of their run. fmaz Posted July 16, 2022 Share Posted July 16, 2022 When I started collecting, along with the regular goals of particular artists and pages from certain titles, etc… there were just two book/story specific titles I knew I needed pages from — my favorite two books growing up. The Superman vs. Spider-Man Treasury Edition … And What If…? #1 - what if Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four? Of all my other art, the only other page I bought in part because of how much I loved the story (although I’d have bought this page regardless, as you’ll see), was the final page from X:Men Forever #24 (last issue in the series). For those who have never read it, it’s a long-form “What if?” X-Men story, where Chris Claremont returns to the X-Men he started in 1991, and picks up where he left off… and tells the kind of story he never could have told in continuity! It’s such a great read!!! And this Tom Grummett splash is just awesome and reminds me of the story every time I look at it on my wall! In it, the FF go to the Negative Zone to find a cure for a mysterious ailment that is threatening Sue and her unborn baby.
