srezvan
My readthrough of Berserk is near its end. I started last year, alternating between Berserk digests and GI Joe (Marvel) TPBs. I hit a dead end in getting the Joe TPBs I needed (a problem I recently rectified), so I made pretty quick work of the Berserk volumes. I have Berserk #41, which is the last one completed by the original author/illustrator, who died recently. His team is going to continue on with the series. Although I haven't read #41 yet (will start tonight), there's no way the series is near its end. I may wait for a few digests to come out before I get back into the series. I enjoyed the series overall. It certainly has a few problems, but it has been a very fun read. The series also takes up a whole bookshelf! I'll post a pic when I'm all done. srezvan
23 comics so far this year. This week I experienced the abrupt end to the Berserk series. The creator/writer/illustrator died recently, leaving the series incomplete. The story is really just in the middle with so much story to tell. The series certainly had its highs and lows, but it was really fun read. The only books I didn't read yet were the guidebook (character profiles) and a novel about a supporting character. I'll hold off on these and see what happens with the series. Hopefully in the next couple of years the team supporting the original creator will put out more books, and I'll use those two as a refresher. For now, I'm back to my GI Joe series, currently on TPB #9 of the original Marvel run. Raze, F For Fake and Ken Aldred
Popular Post jeffreyk
On 1/2/2023 at 11:10 AM, jeffreyk said: Several years ago, I decided to stop reading print comics and graphic novels and went digital with the Marvel and DC Apps. It was a lot cheaper and the books looked very nice on my tablet. While I enjoy the Apps, I miss the holding of a book and seeing a true printed page. I just ordered a bunch of Marvel and DC Omnibus books and am looking forward to reading them. I dont know if I will read 500 individual comics in the omnibus' this year, but I am going to have a great time reading as much as time allows! Happy New Year everyone! A quick update. I started off with the Venomibus Omnibus and am about half way through with 26 comics read. The lethal protector stories are really good, just as good as when I read them back in the 90s as they were released. I plan to finsh this book over the next few weeks (it is over 1,000 pages) and go onto another omnibus. The omnibus books while heavy and bulky are a great way to read. They are slighly oversized which helps my aging eyes and the stories are all complete. No searching for a book to finish a story, all self-contained. Popular Post ttfitz
Total from last time - 39 Fantastic Four 227-231, Ann 14-15 Getting very close to the point I had started reading regularly back in the college. Next up, Byrne! Avengers 205-209, Ann 9 Marvel Teamup 103-107, Ann 1-4 Amazing Spider-Man 216-218, Ann 1 Spectacular Spider-Man 53-56, Ann 2 The late Bronze Age Marvel reading continues. Some up, some down. Invincible 9-13 I'm starting to warm up to this series, interested to see where this takes me. Monstress 7-8 As soon as I fill out my scorecard, I think I'm going to be good for this book. Y The Last Man 32-48 Not much more to say from before - still enjoying, still my least favorite Brian K Vaughan series. Although we've had some good twists lately. Quick Stops 1-4 I think if you are one of those kind who can quote whole scenes of the Clerks movies, or the View Askewniverse in general, you probably would love this. As a casual fan, I liked it okay - found myself many times saying, "Wait, who is this again? Oh, Ben Affleck's character, okay." Although I will admit I have many laugh out loud moments with issue 4. Astro City: That Was Then Kurt Busiek. Astro City. Nuff said. Green Hornet One night In Bangkok Despite the footnote that said this took place at some designated point in "the current series" which I don't think really exists right now, it was aight. Maskerade 1-4 Enjoyed what was there, but please, don't give me "1 of 4", "2 of 4", etc, when it's only half of the story. The Wrong Earth Confidence Men It's Mark Waid, so of course it's good. But I'd say if you weren't familiar with the world at play, it was at minimum-Waid good. Something Is Killing the Children 21-28 Still enjoying this book, but same complaint as Maskerade above - I started reading the title again because I knew the story had finished. Or at least I thought it had, because there was a "Chapter One" in the middle there, but it was still the same storyline from the earlier issues - and now I have to keep everything straight thru at least March when issue 30 comes out. Not cool. So, if I added it up right, I've hit 105 for the year so far. srezvan, Ken Aldred, F For Fake and 2 others

Popular Post Raze
52-70 Detective Comics 1062-1065 Im enjoying Ram V's run so far. And the back ups stories are not bad. Marvel Super Heroes 20 enjoyable read Die! Die! Die! 1-14 The first 8 issues are GREAT!!! Mayham, Conspiracies, Assassians,Aleins, Blood, Guts, Secret Cabals and more Blood!!! Then 9-14...still had what the first 8 issues had, but they added some politics. And I thought the were adding "to much" extra to the story. srezvan
32 comics so far this year. GI Joe (Marvel) Vol 9. I think these are the meandering issues I was warned about before starting the series. Some of the plot lines around Zartan/Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow are uninteresting and carrying on for far too long. Billy continues to be a somewhat annoying character. We're starting to see more build up between Destro and Cobra Commander, and I'm excited to see where that's going. Raze and Ken Aldred

srezvan
Up to 43 books for the year. GI Joe Vol 10 was really good. Cobra Commander is one vengeful and vicious dude! I've had the GI Joe trading cards since my childhood, and there were references on the cards to the volcano incident. It was fun to finally read about that part of GI Joe history. Norrin_Radd
Read The Broken Ear (1935-7 - 62 pgs) wherein Tintin gets embroiled in a mystery around a theft of a South American idol. He travels to Latin America (full of corruption and revolution) and has many misadventures and near-death experiences trying to unravel the mystery. He is harried by two murderous villains all along the way, but our hero triumphs in the end. The two villains get their unearthly reward.
