Frazetta Famous Funnies results

is it just me or were the results today bizarre?    The VFs went for much more than the NMs... there must be some variance by issue but this seemed excessive?    Perhaps I haven't followed closely enough, but it just doesn't make any kind of sense?

209   9.4    $6,000

210 9.4     $6,000

213    8.0    $19,200

214   8.0        $14,400

215  8.0     $10,800

Different issues have different desirability and different availability in grade.  That's about the pattern you would expect IMO.  If you look at the census for 209 $ 210 you'll see a lot in the NM range.

We are going into Year 23 of the Census, so folks that collect "the best" are willing to spend extra to get the top tier graded copies, even if they aren't 9.6/9.4.

Yup, not a huge surprise to see those spikes... even way down in VG-and-lower territory, that tracks loosely with what I've found. #213-215 are exponentially more desirable & expensive, and #209 & #210 are just plain easier to find.

Congrats to Rick on the sales!  :applause:

Congrats to Rick on the sales!  :applause:

Thanks! I found the results to be pretty much in line with expectations so I am satisfied. Very nice copies of 213 and 214 don’t come to market often.

Exactly and even to the point that old slow Bob even finally got around to doubling the valuation of FF 212 to 214 over the rest of the Frazetta cover run, after having all of them at the exact same valuation for as long as I can remember.  (thumbsu

Not sure why he would have 212 in there though, as I feel that 213 & 214 are clearly head and heels over the rest of them, with FF 212 & 215 in a second grouping of their own before you drop down to the rest of the Frazetta Famous Funnies run.  hm  (shrug)

Well, looks like @Ricksneatstuff did alright with this Frazetta Famous Funnies @12 which finished up at $12K earlier this morning:  :applause:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Science Fiction, Famous Funnies #212 (Eastern Color, 1954) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white to white pages....

Not as good as that outlier CGC 8.0 graded copy that had sold for some $19.2K back in 2021.  A bit surprised they had it in the Saturday backwater portion of their auction here though, instead of their Thursday main portion of their Signature Auction, where there are supposedly bidders with both bigger eyeballs and deeper pockets.  hm  (shrug)

I was just about to post about these before I saw yours. What is the reason 212 sells/sold for so much more than some others. I haven't followed prices on these so I know nothing. If it's mainly because of the cover art on a personal note I like 211 a lot more. Edit: took a few minutes, educated myself. I see the pop numbers and past sales. Big price differences on the Frazetta run that's for sure.

There are 53 copies of FF 211 in 7.5 and higher with multiple 9.4/9.6.

There are 27 copies of FF 212 in 7.5 and higher, none better than 9.0.

This is it EXACTLY and also the reason that FF 213 also sells for such a high amount, besides the fact that it is a absolutely gorgeous cover.  (thumbsu  :luhv:

I must admit though that with a seemingly large quantity of 27 copies in CGC 7.5 and above, being able to still garner $12K is quite a feat.  :applause:

What I find even more surprising is the lack of HG copies for some of these mid-50's FF's, and yet so many for some of the other issues right adjacent to it.  hm
