I just read this book last night.

Awesome read. Reminded me of The Thing. 

High recommend. Probably one of the best modern horror books out there. 

Looking back there are a few details I want to revisit, but this book is a solid 8/10

There has been an uptick in the number of horror books being published the past 2-3 years. I am curious to see if it can be maintained or if this is a short term blip.

I don't know about monthly comics, but look up Junji Ito's stuff.  There are many OGN / anthology books out there.

Oh, a few decades old, but David Hine's STRANGE EMBRACE was pretty creepy.  The art is a bit rough, but its a great story!  I'm sure I'll think of more...

Warren Ellis's STRANGE KISS / STRANGER KISSES / GRAVEL series was really good, especially to start with.  I remember reading the last page of his first issue and was floored.

Oh, I nearly forgot about CROSSED by Garth Ennis.  Eventually it spun off into a series Alan Moore wrote.  This will give you a run down.

Harrow County by Cullen Bunn is a must read horror book, along with The Empty Man which was turned into a movie. 

The movie did capture some of the horror elements of the book but fell short in certain areas.

I'll go ahead and (unsurprisingly) plug Black Hole for being a unique indie horror / romance / drama series. As a bonus, the collected edition is readily available. It's not exactly the pre-code EC sort of horror, but it definitely does more than dip its toe in the genre.

Alan Moore's "The Courtyard" and "Providence" may work as well, Lovecraft stuff.

Moore has described magic as a disease of language, and the Courtyard is kinda about that.
