Point Five's 5th Annual Grading Contest: ROUND 2 BOOKS!
7 7

65 posts in this topic

Here we go again! (But humor me and read this stuff anyway!)

-- The books have not been pressed or cleaned since these raw scans were taken.

-- There are 3 books in this round; all are now in CGC slabs. Send me a PM with your grades (make the title "Grading Contest: [your username]") and I'll record them. Send just one PM with all of your grades and add to it for future rounds; no changing of grades. You can copy/paste the below:

ROUND 2

4. Startling Comics #45

5. Battlefront #15

6. Journey Into Fear #20

-- I will post the full grading notes with each book. (This can be misleading... sometimes the notes use harsher language than I might use to describe a flaw, and on the other hand there can be many flaws that the graders don't mention at all. So I tend to advise weighing what you see  more heavily than the notes, except when they describe flaws not visible.)

-- Scoring is as follows:
Bullseye = 5 points
1 grade off = 3 points
2 grades off = 1 point
3 or more grades off = -1 point
(so remember: with this contest, the higher score the better.)

-- Once more with feeling: do not use the census for this contest.

-- Grades are due Monday, March 11th 10 pm EST.

Good luck!

5. Battlefront #15

[graders notes]
moderate spine splits to cover
moderate tears to cover

[my notes]
The top corner of the spine and the front staple areas look worse than in my original raw scans, so for this one I'm using CGC's scan of the front (their colors are amped up a bit compared to mine), plus some closeup pics of those areas.

**Tempting though it may be, please do not discuss the books here or ask me further questions. Just take your best guess based on what you see and what's written here.**

**For reference, here's my original raw scan of the front, but I believe the condition looks a bit worse now & the slab scan above is more accurate.**

Grades in.

The Battlefront was the toughest IMO. The Journey the easiest. It looks just like a couple of slabs I've cracked.

We'll see...

I love books in these grades.

There's no shame in it.

Oh, hang on. You're below Adamantium...

OK, there's shame in it.
