That is crazy. I only know of 3 boxed examples. Even super collector Harry Matesky didn’t have a boxed example.

Numerous examples of Action #1 and Superman #1 have sold in the millions.

Now, this is of course is not a comic book. But it is the first item created for Superman. It is a must have for Superman toy collectors. The first action figure toy. The box is rather plain but it is original and reasonable shape. Much harder to find in this shape than copies of his first comics.

I would have thought that this would have gone double the final hammer price. It really should have. It will be a very long time until a comparable example will be offered again. The high bidder got a great deal.

But, I know, it isn’t a comic book…

Very nice. I didn't know it existed (expected, as I am not a toy expecialist). It's face isn't as nice as one could wish, but is indeed an amazing item to own

About the price, I would expect more, given the rarity. A very rare Batmobile sold for six figures a few months ago. I know this is not a model and yes a toy, but still....

Packaged action figures from the 70s and 80s routinely sell for more than this piece. Crazy to think about that disconnect, eh?

I mean are Snake Eyes, Boba Fett and He-Man really more important than Superman? ...than the FIRST Superman toy AND the FIRST action figure toy?

No...and yet...

Great piece. Hakes had a beautiful, boxed example almost a decade ago that sold for "only" $5,060. Hake's Superman Figure

Considering how popular toys in general are to collect, and the fact that is really the first toy of the first hero (and the first action figure ever), that is just a horrible rate of return. The Heritage Batman toy auction last year had 25+ pieces that sold for more than double what this figure did, very sad.

If it had been auctioned on Hakes I think it would have gone a lot higher.  Probably even Heritage if they promoted it
