Nailed that flash AND spidey 79… half a grade off on the rest aside from secret wars 8… really good learning opportunity as I had no clue how the rust would affect the overall grade

Better this round as I'm adjusting to this contests ahem... loose grading standards.  2 bulls 3 points total. Probably still out of the running even for 6th place due to the first 2 rounds disaster.

Geez, I thought I did OK this round with a bull and 5 points overall, but every second poster here seems to have done better. @Get Marwood & I - can you spare a few quid for 17th?

4 points this round. One grade off on each & a bull on the SW8 which was a no brainer soon as Mike showed the staples. My all 9.4s strategy paying dividends!

999 points this round.  I hammered most of them.  That "production" crease killed me and I hacked up a fur ball when I saw the grades on the Flash and the SW8.

Wow, this round I only got 6... this time I didn't think twice - just looked and subbed.... Overthinking killed the cat - also, I made sure to grade a least a grade higher than I would grade it myself - that def helped!

 , I had been crazy busy and finally sat down to submit my grades just to realize I just missed the deadline by a couple hours. So much for procrastination as a good strategy.

3 points and 2 bulls in this redemption round (7.5 for SW8, 9.0 on the Cap, and 7.5 on the Flash). Any chance we can scrap the worst round? Lol I’d still be in this maybe if not for my utter tank job in round 2…

8 points. I knew it was a disaster after I saw that video CGC put out last night...talking about grading a book by how it appears and not needing any training...unfortunately I saw that after I submitted my grades, lol. That video was scary.

I went 6.5 too, basing that decision on CGC's own grading scale:

 

6.5 was much higher than I would have graded it myself, were I ever selling it, but the point of this contest has always been to guess what the CGC grade is, not your own. To me, that's a major defect whichever way you look at it, and one which will degrade further over time. I'm confident that 98% of buyers would either avoid this book if they new about the hidden damage or be devastated by it if they cracked it open having bought it. 

Giving it an 8.0 basically says that the CGC grader thinks that staple rust that has migrated through the pages is a 'moderate defect'. And now I see a video from a CGC employee saying - if I heard it right - that she grades books by eye appeal. Not a great advert for CGC.

I'm getting to the point where I think my score for this competition will be more than the previous five combined. On we go though, eh.

I went 7 as the absolute highest I thought you can go with rust (so much rust). Replace those staples and call it a reader - for real, though.

That one hurt, but I overgraded everything else, too.  8 points, rough round.

Yes I know it's guess the cgc grade.. i wasnt clear..I gave the Flash a 6.5 because of the piece out and I had raised that up ..I actually gave the Spidey a 7.5 because I was guessing cgc. My grade probably would have been 5 at best and that would have been painful...even with the black rust disclosed.

I find in these rounds I get worse and worse at guessing the grades. I probably might have been a little closer on the other 3 if I hadn't been channeling the last 9.6.

I am very much in awe of those who did very well.

I saw the rusty staples on SW 8 and figured it was a moderate defect only because the damage wasn't enough that the staples were blown thru. To me that's the most difficult decision at times. When does a moderate defect become a major one.
