Shard in slab

Hey been a while since I've been around the or bought a book.

Birthday coming up tomorrow so I grabbed myself a book off ebay lsdt week that's been on my list- Moon Knight 2016 #2 Tedesco Variant in a 9.8

As advertised below:

What arrived:

20240522_150757.thumb.jpg.85a97205a404a870eb25e26b604bad3e.jpg

It has a sizeable plastic shard in between the inner and outer well.

My question is does anyone has any insight on this, is there any decent way to help this plastic shard migrate to the bottom of the case or is a reslab the only option?

Saddest part is I think they edited the picture they put up on the listing to remove the plastic shaving in the case (see below)

Could be wrong hoping I am.

Hoping someone has an easy fix. Otherwise going to have to ship out.

Lastly 2 white spots on the hand are not on my raw copy I'll assume this is a printing error and thus didn't affect the grade . 99% likely printing related though but something else to discuss on the grading side. (see below super zoom)

Anyway thanks in advance to anyone with insight into the plastic debris issue. Looking forward into getting a little more active around here again.

Tmk  @CGC Mike Can confirm?

That shards of plastic are only a free reholder as a mechanical error if done by the original submitter and within 2 weeks of receiving back from cgc. A label done incorrectly is a free reholder as a mechanical error at anytime and by anyone.

Again tmk. You could always pay for a reholder otherwise

Hi

I believe your only option would be to send the book in to us as a reholder.

Mike

Sometimes debris in a case can shift and move. It it is thin enough you can try shaking the case a bit to see you can get it to settle on the bottom. I actually have a slab with a small thin piece of debris where I did this and it is totally fine (a PC book for me). It may work or it may not, but either way you still have a slab with a shard in the case.

Since you bought it on Ebay, I would contact the seller and get compensation for the amount of the reholder. If he tells you to go make hay just return the slab at his cost. I am sure there are other copies of this book out there.

Thank for the quick response Mike.

The reholder would be at my cost per what @ADAMANTIUM posted earlier correct?

This. ^  A reholder seems excessive if not necessary. I'd definitely play around with it first. To be fair to the seller, the shard may have moved around in transit when the slab was shipped.

If it's an older-style holder, you might even be able to get a piece of paper in through the side seams in the outer case and jog the shard out. Worth a shot.

This only reminds me that my slab of killing joke is like this, bought from eBay same situation, and at the time I didn't try to remove it. Lord remind me and if with success it'll be a testimony to even the new slabs are able to be removed. Time and patience. I think the picture provided here is of the newest generation of slab, makes me want to try with them the original poster!

I got slab with a shard in it. It was right in the center of the front cover when I got it and it wasn't in the photo that the seller had. I realized I could get it to move a little and got it to settle between the label and the book. It wouldn't move to the bottom for some reason. It's hard to see in the photo but I definitely thought this was preferable to a reholder or returning it.

That's actually a "shard light" BriD.  Not a full scale shard. :baiting:

Well I did attempt to look for my slab, but didn't find it quickly enough lol Lord knows. Maybe y'all well light that fire by extracting it!

This is your best bet. It's worked for me in the past. Also trying to work it to the bottom has proven productive.
