Requires no authentication; just simply plug in a new proxy address and that's how you will show up on the internet.

Fine. She has every right in the world to sell her signed photos, and there are all sorts of venues where it would be appropriate. I wish her luck. Truth be told, I've enjoyed her work.

 

However, how can anyone think it's appropriate to have hardcore porn stars at events attended by children?

 

It further annoys me that this is just the type of nonsense that reinforces the sad-sack, mouth-breathing comic fan stereotype.

 

Here's a novel suggestion: instead of trying to pluck more money from the sweaty palms of the same pudgy fanboys who are attending the show anyway, why not feature some guests that will appeal to a younger crowd and actually attempt to bring some kids -- that is, future comic fans -- into the show? Why not have guests from kids' shows or someone dressed up as kids' show characters?

I have a similar complaint with Motor City's show. Not that they have hardcore porn stars, though Traci Lords has been there. I have a problem with a few of the DVD guys who have porn DVD's out in plain sight to purchase. I've got no problem with someone wanting to buy porn dvd's but I don't think a "comic convention" is appropriate. There are kid's there. I've mentioned to Mike Goldman that I think it crosses the line. But it does no good. Money talks.

 

I think Mike and other promoters have no idea how many families this turns off. I have a childhood collecting buddy who has two young sons. He was shocked at a couple of porn-bimbos he had to shield his kids from at one of the Big Apple shows. Equally, problematic are the crazed ex-wrestlers shouting obscenities at the top of their lungs. I understand they might increase the draw and bring in some cash, but most people that come to see these wrestlers and porn-bimbos have no interest in comics and go straight to the celebrities, and others just won't come with their kids. Unfortunately, I think this show has a rep with many parents for having such guests.

 

On the other hand, last year's National was refreshing, especially with Adam West--no matter how long he's doing the autographs, he still brings in crowds, especially now that he's the "mayor".

Hey Guys,

 

 

I understand some of you may be concerned about Asia and adult guests at comic book shows.

 

You guys have to understand that it's a tough choice between family and fandom when putting on these shows. 95% of the attendees of the Big Apple Con are men 18-40 and are are very vocal in their desire to see guests like Asia. If this were not true, then why do we repeatedly see guests like Traci Lords, Jasmine St. Claire, Seka, etc... at Comic Book Conventions throughout the the country? These girls are not coming there for fun. Simply put, there is a demand for these guests.

 

However, we are concerned about young children and any exposure to adult materials, including the many adult themed comics which are all over a comic show. We require that all guests, dealers and exhibitors refrain from openly displaying ANY graphic adult materials. We have taken steps in the past year to remove certain models who overstepped the boundaries of reason and we will continue to enforce these guidelines.

 

Look guys, I'm available if you have any suggestions or want to discuss this. I really appreciate your comments and would love to have any direct input on how you feel we could balance family and fandom.
