  1. I had all of these back in 1964, I think. I sold one copy of Human Torch 3 to Terry (as seen in pic) and another copy to Dave Reynolds. Dave got the best one but returned the Popular 1 because of buyers remorse.
  2. I like some of those Avon covers. Most of my Merritt's covers are on pulps. Schomburg created some sweet paperback covers too.
  3. I still have most of my fanzines that I purchased in the sixties and added a few in the past 20 years. The only fanzines I have seen out in the wild were a bunch at an antique store in New Jersey. Unfortunately, the owners wouldn't sell to me and said they weren't sure of the value and they saved the fanzines for another dealer/collector. I picked up some other stuff and moved on. Many of the comics found in the shop were from the collection of Ira Fegley. Perhaps the fanzines and ERB books were from the same guy. I also found ads from Alan LIght at the shop.
  4. By the way, Lupoff wrote a series of novels, murder mysteries, that were related to nostalgia and collecting.
  5. I had picked up the paperback All in Color for a Dime when published in the seventies but found a copy of the hardback on ebay. The back of the hardback dust cover is shown below with a list of articles taken from his Xero fanzine.
  6. I also picked up the collection of articles from his fanzine, Xero.
  7. I do enjoy those early Superman covers. They aren't very complicated and seldom relate to the story.
  8. I remembered seeing the Lupoff Captain Marvel in an early issue of Alter Ego. I found a page in Alter Ego 5 published by Ron Foss.
  9. Never met Richard but was thankful for his contributions to comic fandom. My favorite project was his novel, The Comic Book Killer, that was published with an additional mini-comic created by Alex Schomburg and Trina Robbins. The slipcase version was signed by Richard and Alex.
  10. One of my favorite covers. I purchased my copy at a flea market/antique shop in New Jersey. My copy of Batman 47 was purchased through an ad in RBCC back in the sixties (50 plus years ago)
  11. I am missing 324 Shadow pulps but found a nice copy of one of them at the flea market.
  12. I have listened to Orson and later versions of the Shadow but didn't notice much difference. Sometimes the quality of the recording isn't good. Sometimes the plot is more mystical. The deep voice of the Shadow was played well by several actors.
  13. Don't need All Star 30, 36 and 55 but still want All Star 7, 9, 20 21, 28, 29, 38, 48, 54 and 57 I could still use a few Batman comics. Looking for coverless or incomplete copies of Batman 76, 84, 91, 93 and 96.. No I don't have All Star 3 and 8 or Batman 1 and 2. I have a lot of other comics to trade or will purchase.
  14. I like Big Little Books and other similar books like Fast Action and Big Big Books but the Shadow has been hard to find. I try to collect BLB, with related Sunday Funnies and Comic Books.
  15. Joe Kubert did interior art for this mag. Some of his splash pages for other issues were pretty good.
  16. It is hard to accept Hit 5 and Seven Seas 4 as classics without including Exciting 60.
  17. It would be tough to nominate another Hit comic for classic cover since Hit 5 and 11 are already listed but I would nominate Hit 12 or 17.
  18. A quick look at issue 12 (above) and 4 reveals a cover attached at the end with free access to the staples. My copy of issue 1 is the same but the cover is missing..
  19. Headings by Everett changed many times. Sometimes the colorist kicked in an extra bit of glamour. I think this scan might be from a fellow boardie but I don't remember where I got it.
  20. I only have a few that belong in the club but most of those early Actions are pretty classy. Burnley did a great job on some of the covers and was a great loss when he switched to Batman.
  21. That song book goes with the Cristmas Carol book by Dickens with Foster illustrations.
  22. Oh...never mind You are right, I must have fallen asleep while I was still typing.
  23. Many stories were printed in the Big Little Book format.
  24. Early Flash pages were reprinted in KIng Comics but the quality of Foster's art suffered due to the loss of detail in the smaller comic book pages.
