  1. They don't look like they are worth the bother of dealing with the seller's expectations, the time to process them, or a long drive. Pass.
  2. ...and at Low, LOW PRICES! Aside: I met Mickey a few years ago at some Italian American festival in Omaha. Nice guy, although I think he's dead now.
  3. I'd love to be there to hear the stream of expletives when good artists saw their work get bad inks.
  4. I think reasons for buying comics falls into an overlapping Venn diagram. There are readers, collectors, dealers, speculators, trendies (not really into comics but loves Rick & Morty so buys some), etc. I think most of us fall into more than one of those categories and see no reason to apply a label. How many collectors have never sold a book?
  5. I like that he's trying to create some movie speculation by saying there "might" be a Deadpool 2 in February. His logic on this is flawless.
  6. Any idea if this was Boston? My first con was in '76 and both Steranko and Carl Barks were there. I remember Steranko's booth babe was wearing a silver jumpsuit and she sold me a mini Chandler.
  7. Is there a formula for determining whether or not it's worth diving out a window? Floor Number x $3,000 = jump?
  8. I'll take the lesser multiples please. For me the joy is in simple ownership, as long as it's not trashed. High grade is certainly nice, but not essential to my collecting philosophy. That might be different had I unlimited resources, but my budget for comics does not support hg, and honestly once you hit the 9.0 area it all seems a bit insane to me. A couple of spine ticks accounting for five-figure differences in value? To me that's ridiculous. And I emphasize the to me part, I don't mean to diss anyone else's passion, I just don't share it.
  9. Pretty sure it'd have to be regraded, otherwise someone could provide a slightly lower grade copy and possibly get away with it.
  10. Highest Graded isn't collecting what you want; it's collecting what other people want.
  11. Usually not a fan of characters interacting with the logo, but this is a good one
  12. Yeah I think about the way I handled my comic collection back then and shudder...this was the pre-board era too, so just rifling through the stacks was hell on spines...
  13. Congrats to the buyer, that's a fantastic incredible looking 1.0. Is there no treatment for brittleness? I'm guessing if there was I'd have heard about it by now, but it seems within the realm of possibility that something could be done.
  14. I don't know man, I think you just gave up an IH181 with a unique variant cover.
  15. Since there's no statute of limitations here, one of my better and more unusual dealings from the late 70's: As a kid I collected just about everything (comics, cards, coins, stamps, records, etc) because back then you could find deals like this at flea markets. Kid had a beer-case of baseball cards and they looked pretty good, so I asked him how much they were: "fifty cents" was his reply, and I was really unsure if that was each or all. If it was each I was sunk, as there were about 500 cards and I was about 12 years old at the time. So I asked him, "each?" He must have had no idea, and been taken aback by my question (apparently I come across as pretty harsh/aggressive, even though I don't mean to be) so he just said "Ok, $2 for the box." I quickly gave him the two bucks and walked the box back to my grandmother's car, the whole time some other dealer really pestering me to resell the box to him. After about ten "f -off's" he finally got the message. Oh, and the cards? All mid-1950's Topps in excellent condition, all 500 of them. Multiples of Aaron, Williams, Mays, Clemente, Campanella, etc. One of my better hauls.
  16. My solution would be that convicted drunks must attach a neon orange bra to any car they are driving, and being caught bra-less means significant jail time. This serves as a deterrent (shaming) as well as a warning for police, potential passengers, and others on the road that there is a significant chance that the driver is impaired. I know this reeks of Scarlet Letter, but the difference is that Hester Prynne's "crime" was victimless, whereas repeat drunk drivers are an actual danger to society. Mackenzie999 in 2020! PS for those who don't know, a car bra is one of those tacky faux-leather coverings they used to put on sports cars that covered the front grill/bumper area
  17. It always blows my mind when you see some drunk driver on the news that has 7 previous DUI s...at what point to they just say "you're done, no more driving for you. Ever."
  18. That really is a brutal trim job. It might just be the photograph but the corners on the open side do not even look like right angles.
  19. Seems like all of this is overthinking things a bit. If you don't like a dealer's price, make an offer, maybe something can be worked out. Pros and cons of Paypal, shipping etc is really the dealer's business, not the buyers. Know when haggling is appropriate. Hot books typically move as priced, buying a stack might get you a little break, etc. Remember the dealers you deal with, and repeat with the ones that worked out well for you. It's nice to feel like you won, but a fair price is good for both parties.
  20. I didn't really think fraud would be a major issue, just guessing what any potential issues might be.
