  1. Pros : Fresh slab with new MC paper; comes back with a higher grade. Cons: Comes back trimmed; lower grade; damaged/lost. It's a beautiful 8.0. I wouldn't risk it unless you think there is a chance with a C&P to bump it. The miscut shouldn't come back as trimmed but.... Conclusion: Don't tempt fate.
  2. At least he wants us to make an informed decision. More power to him.
  3. Yes, when I said first ever appearance, i meant the first ever full OA appearance within a specifc book. It's the same argument for IH 180 vs 181 or Conan 23 vs 24 i.e., between books. No end to this. Plus there will always be exceptions like splash pages etc. But the more major a character, the more likely the first ever full appearance would cost more holds as a general statement for OA and Comic books.
  4. Im guessing that the first page that a character appears would cost more than the subsequent pages? The recent comiclink auction for the first appearance of Harley Quinn seems to support this. We always seem to wet our knickers saying this sketch or that prelim is the first ever drawing of a major character and when it comes up for auction, the prices reflect their significance.
  5. To be accurate it's the first issue with Death. Not the first appearance in that issue. Wonder what that would go for ?
  6. Think we should draw a clear distinction. The OP is asking if a already graded book could drop in its grade after a press. Not after its been sent for a Sig signing. The odds of a grade bump for a book going for a Sig signing + press should be statistically lower than those books which are just going for a press. As mentioned earlier, this would be due to the fact that more hands are touching the book and the book just takes a longer journey. And for the latter i.e., just going for a press, I think whether it drops in its grade depends a lot on its original condition. Sending high graded books e.g. a 9.2 and expecting a 9.4 should be harder to expect than sending a 6.5 hoping for a 7.5. I'm speaking generally here of cos but I seriously doubt the C+P business would last if the odds of dropping in grade was >50%. Think the original condition of the book matters a lot as well as whether it would benefit from a press. The pressing business is meant to specifically improve certain deficiencies. If those deficiencies are not present or are minimal, then there's nothing much to improve on.
  7. The artist probably misread your message. You could have clarified with him that the next best thing was a commission and not him, instead of "sorry, did that come off as offensive", which probably only confirmed his inaccurate interpretation. Nonetheless based on what the artist posted, he seems to at least take his commissioning very seriously. Who knows, maybe once u clarify with him, could turn out to be a marvellous commission. Tho I wouldn't have the cojones to do it.
  8. I agree that the seller should set things right. Having said that, I do not think it's fair for the seller to pay for grading costs. I would settle for whatever you paid for the book plus shipping and tax.
  9. I don't think you should bother as if you brought it to 10 shops, 3 may say yes, 3 may say no and the rest, they don't know. The only way to be sure is to ask Chandler himself or give it to an expert. Based on the autographed pic in one of the posts, it does look like his. I would say just assume the signature is legit and enjoy it.
  10. Though magazines, Heavy Metal covers were so cool. I used to look forward to the covers more than the contents. They crossed genres from science fiction , fantasy, horror. And many of the artists were masters of their craft like Bisley, Royo, Vallejo, Frazetta, Olivia, Moebius.
  11. Grades in....thanks Mike for running this. Its like a periodic wake-up call for wanks like myself who think we can grade well. Only can do the former.
  12. He's not the only one doing this. It's a free country...he's not putting a gun to your head. Just like the recent Tradd Moore art drop...willing seller , willing buyer. If there's no demand for liefeld's creative sigs, then he may reduce his prices or offer something else. So long there's a demand. And seriously speaking the fact that we are still speaking about liefeld after he stopped making anything of note for decades speaks more about his legacy and place in the comic world pantheon. BTW I dislike his art intensely.
  13. From Felix's website : "Thank you to all who have helped us achieve this historic, record-setting day for modern comic art. Today, there is no creator more deserving than Tradd to hold this crown. DOCTOR STRANGE: FALL SUNRISE is an absolute masterwork from a singular comics talent. Only Tradd could have visualized this story. And only Tradd could have executed it. The comics medium has been redefined forever". Probably laying it on thick there but is art style is kinda unique. Really liked his Silver Surfer art. Thot it was a perfect canvas for his flowy psychedelic style or whatchamacallit. Reminds me a bit of moebius.
  14. Pls dont remind me....I watched that grammys live. And I do like Jethro tull but cmon...agst Metallica !!!
  15. I humbly disagree...inspired perhaps but definitely not derivative. I'm a fan of J Allen. Beautiful art but Frank captured the savagery, power and sexiness in his art that J allen never did. If j allen is jethro tull, then Frank frazetta is iron maiden. Both are rock bands but one plays the flute while the other has 3 guitarists.
  16. I get that all the time and I'm an absosolute nobody. I always thot it was a result of me winning some auctions over the years.
  17. Im just curious....those of you who have the top tier scores, are u grading based on what you think the grade should be or based on how cgc grades?
  18. Does anyone know who owns the original death dealer painting ? Is it still with the frazetta family?
