As “ rare “ comics like AA 16, Flash 1, Whiz 2 , & Supes 2 have seen an increase in census numbers over the last 5 years Pep 22 is the only mega key to stay fairly flat ( a couple added maybe ?).  Any thoughts on the correlation between the census numbers fir Action 1 and Tec 27 ??  They are almost next and neck in total numbers

I’d have to comb through the census to view the numbers for all of the major books before I could give a more confident opinion.

But generally speaking, as prices for key GA books have gone up, there has been more incentive than ever to slab key books. I expect to continue to see more copies of Top-10 books slabbed in the coming years.

I don’t collect Archie, so I can’t really comment on that front.

My top 4 biggest Bat Books

    Tec 27

    Tec 33

    Tec 38

    Bats 1

    #5-Toss up. 32 or 29

It’s tough to draft up a list that balances significance, rarity and FMV. In terms of importance, it’s should very easily be...

    1. Detective Comics #27

    2. Batman #1

    3. Detective Comics #33

    4. Detective Comics #38

    5. Distant from the Top-4

Rarity and FMV is a bit different. Tec #31 is the 3rd most valuable and has been for some time. It’s arguably the best cover and has cemented itself at No. 3 during the peak of value for these books. “Should” it be more valuable than Tec #33? Doesn’t really matter what I think. The market has spoken.

Tec #38 tops all Tecs outside of #27 and #33 as far as significance, but it a lot less rare. So where does that book belong?

Sorry Matt. Gonna disagree on this one. Inasmuch as a dark moody Batman was what started it all, I don't think it could have carried on forever in story telling. A sidekick would have bound to be necessary.

And Batman wasn’t much darker in Tec #37 than he was in Tec #38. The transition away from the dark-tone began BEFORE Robin was a part of the picture.

    What’s # 5 on your list ?  Just curious....

Cap #1, Marvel #1 and Action #7 are all in the discussion. The two former have more potential and historical significance than the latter, which is an awfully hot book.

Though FMV shifts and may beg to differ at times, the Top-6 GA books of all-time, in my view, are...

    Action #1

    Detective #27

    Superman #1

    Batman #1

    Marvel #1

    Cap #1

  5. Thanks guys. It didn’t take too much detective work. I knew my BC originated from the CGC 1.0 copy, so for it to have been removed, the old 1.0 had to have been restored into something else.

So I combed through my archives to find restored copies with married back covers. Once I found the 4.5, I noticed the similarities between it and the old CGC 1.0. Then a simple Google search brought me to this 10-year old thread and wouldn’t you know...the story was here on the boards all along.

  6. Hey guys,

I know this is an old thread but it may confirm some history on a copy of Tec #27 of which I now own the original BC.

From comparing scans, it looks as though the Tec #27 CGC 1.0 had its BC removed (the one I now own), replaced with a more complete BC, then restored to a 4.5.

I don’t have high resolution scans of the restored 4.5, but it appears to have remnants of the same dark staining in the upper left corner of the FC and above the 10-cent logo. I imagine these are the same books originally discussed in this thread?

Brand new to the market... (or at least brand new to market since 1968 since that's when the owner we purchased these from stopped collecting)  Most of these were bought off the newsstand but we're not sure which ones :)

Action Comics 7 CGC 1.0 CR/OW (label notes: spine of cover split & re-attached with tape)  $49,995

    Bump for this sales thread.

Rarely do we see books of this caliber offered here on the boards, let alone a set as impressive as the one Adam has assembled here.
