  1. Congrats to whoever won the Forever People 1/2 splash just now... loved that 2nd panel, very Silver Surfer-y... 5K just a little higher than what I budgeted
  2. Yup. Reminds me of the motorcycle cruiser market (I ride), who buys all those $$$ bikes once the lifers age out/can't ride anymore? Those expensive toys are a tough spend for a younger crowd with less money and changing tastes... much like what OA might be facing over the next decade as the core collectors move into their 60s.
  3. Anthony, Burkey and Bill have always been entertaining
  4. If your collection averages less than $1,000 a page and you are buying Clayton Crain Wolvie because you will never be able to afford Jim Lee X-Men, then the offerings were good. If your basement contains $2M in framed Jim Lee art and you are a player on Ditko Spidey auctions, then is probably your evaluation. Simply a matter of perspective, with both opinions being legitimate.
  5. Understood but sometimes a page just speaks to you and money doesn't matter... such is the madness of art I should add it comes from a wonderful Black Mirror-style story in which the pilot is an analog of Amelia Earhart
  6. Amazing... it went up $125/day since the HA sale! And people say crypto is a scam...
  7. Blueline pencils on one page, inks over a copy of those pencils on a second
  8. The bigger the money, the more the temptation. This is why I'm not touching separated pages with a ten foot pole... too easy to forge.
  9. It's probably me. Over time, the show has become more about goofy sketches and less about the art, which the opposite of how it started. When the main focus of a show is out-of-shape Mike running around in a tank top while Anthony in drag kisses his wife who is dressed as a guy, the OA gets kinda lost in the shuffle.
  10. I have watched a lot of these shows and even bought some art, but with the cringe factor fully off the charts now and the offerings veering more and more into the "Pay $$$ for this non-panel page art," I'm throwing in the towel until Bill has another show featuring just collectors.
  11. The smart artist working in a home office can deduct quite a bit if he or she is creative enough
  12. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all within our special niche of the collecting world! May 2023 bring some good art to your portfolio!
  13. God almighty, the MCU OA art hype train cannot die soon enough for my taste.
  14. We will all find out what has real merit (and by default, what should be valued more from a monetary standard) in the next few years... difficult financial conditions almost always bring a reversion to the mean for all assets as quality becomes valued again. FTX is the canary in the coal mine... and there is quite a bit of "HOTTEST NEW ARTIST XXX, BUY NOW!!!" poorly executed, highly derivative recent OA which will go quite the same way.
  15. Doug's stupid @$$ insistence on NOT providing bookmarking or auction reminders passes me off to no end... would have gladly bid at least $1,000 more for that Buscema/Palmer Captain Britain page but forgot the auction in some recent work/holiday craziness... there is no doubt sellers are leaving money on the table with CLink's outmoded way of doing business
  16. Tempted to offer $5,000 contigent on delivery by Saturday, then wait to see what excuse he gives for not being able to do so
  17. 72 now, wealthy, living the quiet life, albeit a little frustrated (imho). The 2019 SyFy interview on YouTube speaks loudly.
  18. Went on a work trip to Islamabad over a decade ago and we were taken to an "underground" restaurant, basically a restaurant in the basement of someone's home where alcohol was served (Pakistan looked the other way on these because they only serviced Western customers). Halfway thru dinner one of my companions got a funny look on his face and spit something out... it was a staple. I didn't finish the rest of my meal...
  19. Not to a trained historian or forensic scientist who works with paper... the ink permanently captures the pencils below via a very nice chemical reaction... it's a wonderful signature which can actually be dated within a decade
  20. Tell that to a certain artist named Michael who does nothing but sell perfect light boxed recreations of covers from 60 years ago
