  1. No, they don't. I have re-bagged a few books that I bought at cons that had stickers on the bags and sometimes the stickers do leave marks on the books inside. You might only be able to see the mark if you hold the book at a certain angle or in a certain light. It also probably depends on the thickness of the bag and how tightly the books were packed in a box, and for how long, etc, etc, but it can happen. Yes, it can. I've seen it countless times. That's why I never use stickers for anything and immediately rebag anything with one. Sometimes the dent is extremely deep. Without a doubt stickers will leave impressions over time depending on the way the book is stored. Even the flap of a bag could leave an impression if stored too tightly together. I concur. It's rather annoying buying a book and seeing an impression. As mentioned they are sometimes not obvious and can only be seen from an angle but it happens.
  2. This book has tremendous eye appeal, looks 9.2. Gotta love the old label goodness.
  3. That's another beauty for your collection! Congrats! +1 Wow, just wow, incredible looking book. Congrats !
  4. But without seeing the book in hand, it is indeed a hard thing to do. The poster made the comment that he did not like what he was winning in online auctions and would only buy books that he can see in hand. This makes sense to me. ?
  5. I'm trying to interpret what you are trying to say. 'My biggest problem with this whole thing is they called a universal book blue' A universal book is always blue. The reason they didn't require another look is Spider-Dan sent the book back for review when it was purple. At that time all their graders had a look at it and decided it was restored. They admitted a mistake with subsequently assigning a blue label.
  6. Graded 2/10/2014. No Grader Notes available. Why would there not be Grader's notes ?
  7. Even before the movie hype, I always loved this cover and comic. Here's my current copy. Not an uber grade but it presents well and has White Pages..... http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=16483&GSub=887
  8. Wow, some great wrappers. Love the Civil War News. Do you have any Mars Attacks wrappers to show us ?
  9. Self-deleted post or removed? It was lengthy, but I took from it that some vote with their voice, and others with their wallets. Be the change you wish to see I had posted a response to the PHAMPTON thread that is now gone. It looks like his thread and everything after it was deleted ?
  10. Sharon speaks the truth here. The resub game exists soley because of CGC's propensity for inconsistency. The game isn't necessarily rigged when it goes against you. It's just gambling, period. If you want a more regulated playing field try stocks, more specifically stock options. You don't need a big bankroll to play options. I'd rather make my money there and spend it on comics. I don't entirely agree with this assessment. Yes, CPR exists because of CGC's inconsistency, but also because CGC grading is not as strict as it was in the past. Gary, I totally agree with you. CGC does not grade as strictly as in the past. I actually attribute this to Haspel and I mean this as a compliment to him. I think consistent, tight grading is good for the industry. It adds more value for the buyer in the open marketplace, giving the CGC product a good name. Seeing an overgraded, fugly book in a CGC slab makes them look bad.
  11. I don't think I agree with that Bob. How many times have books been cracked, pressed, pounded, resubbed, cracked, pressed and pounded again in an attempt for a grade bump. You are correct, manipulation of the book does change what the CGC graders are looking at. When I wrote that, I was thinking of straight resubs, what Spider-Dan does. In that case he is simply counting on a change of opinion on the identical book. I always thought the big grade bumps on resubs were a result of pressing. Dan's business model shows us that's not true. His straight resubs get bumps.

  13. I was very disappointed in the lack of response by CGC in the Cole Shave thread. I really felt that whole situation was left unresolved. I think it's apparent to CGC that these threads will eventually end anyway. That's a shame on us for letting it happen. However, in this case, I feel some resolution. What more can they say ? If they get the book back the financials should be private anyway.
  14. Great idea for a thread. I can make some contributions... Space Adventures 7, note the story 'Transformation'. I cracked this one open to read it, it's about two people stranded on a planet . The 'Transformation' is a sex change . http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=11808&GSub=889 Strange Worlds #3 (1951 Avon) http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=14547&GSub=889 Tales of the Unexpected #1 http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=11548&GSub=889
  15. Up to $5k now. Bit surprising to be honest. I'd want the corners to be razor sharp if I was plonking down for a 9.8. And the pages to be White and nicely centered......
  16. It's refreshing to have someone leave a nice looking book like this alone. Dust shadows always look worse in the scan. Great pickup, congrats.
  17. Roy, you make a lot of references to the pre CGC days and you are correct. However, I find myself now making a distinction between the 'old' (early) CGC to today's CGC. I had most of my collection graded in the 2007,2008 timeframe and they graded tight They didn't call it the Haspel hammer for nothing. They were more consistent because they graded tight. I don't see it with the books graded today. Too many examples of overgraded books. Consistent, tight grading may not make the dealers happy but it would give the buyers of CGC graded books more confidence.
  18. I keep reading that grading is subjective, grading is subjective, grading is subjective, okay, no argument grading is subjective. But in this case, it's one book, with one major flaw. Now, either CGC has a standard for that flaw or they don't. Different graders gave this flaw a different grade. Doesn't sound like a standard. No standards scares me. Go ahead guys, ignore my comment yet again. I can't even get a response from Kav on this ?!?
  19. I have already stated I liked CGC's and Paul's response. The book slipped through and they are human. It's okay. However, The grade went from 6.0 to 7.0 to 6.0. The page quality went from OW to OW/W to OW. And of course Blue to Purple to Blue. Regarding standards and consistency, the one that bothers me the most is the grade variance. This book had one specific flaw, a color breaking, vertical, book length crease along the spine. If there are standards, how does this one flaw go from 6.0 to 7.0 to 6.0 ?. I repeat, If there are standards, how does this one flaw go from 6.0 to 7.0 to 6.0 ?
  20. This scares me. It appears CGC is going to be bombarded with resubmitted PLOD's, trying to slip it past them, and then come on here and say 'I told you so'. I hope all of you waste a lot of money and still get the PLOD and a lower grade. CGC, if you are listening, to put a stop to all this nonsense I would start grading tight, tight, tight. Let the resubs take a beating and slow this train down for a while.
  21. Right thing to do. Thanks for the update. +1 I agree. CGC is doing the right thing. I am perfectly satisfied with this answer. However, regarding the current owner/submitter of this book, what the heck were you thinking ? I can't understand why you would resub this book in the first place and, miracle of miracles, you get a Blue Label and immediately tell Dan about it. What did you expect ? Also, it seems awfully cowardly to do your talking through Dan and not come on here to discuss. It sure makes it appear as if you are hiding something.
  22. Since I got Joey here, I will repost my comment. Joey, do you think my statement that CGC needs to see the book again is the 'dumbest post ever'. It was discussed, with verification from our own Joeypost, that a trimmed edge can be roughed up to hide the trim. To verify something like this did or did not happen, CGC would need to see the book again in hand. If it was tampered with, and deliberately sent in on a low staff day, how is this not being played?
  23. Saying CGC got played about this , has to be the dumbest thing I have read on these boards ever . This thread is probably winning as far as the amount of dumb contained in one thread. Bob's post was not even the dumbest thing posted in this thread. Maybe you didn't read this whole thread. It was discussed, with verification from our own Joeypost, that a trimmed edge can be roughed up to hide the trim. 24. Thanks guys. I got it on the Boards. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. All of the Pre-Hero collectors must be currently broke.
