  1. Here's the "being burned alive on a spit" issue. That's got to hurt.
  2. You've gotta love those early Zips. The same poor girl was always about to be decapitated, or dipped in a vat of boiling oil, or electrocuted, or hung from the gallows or burned alive.
  3. Do you know when this was sent out? Is there a date anywhere on the certificate? I'm guessing it's pre-1940.
  4. Trying to complete an unrestored run of both New Comics and New Adventure Comics is an impossible task.
  5. The poor girl was sunbathing in a bikini and platform pumps when she was suddenly abducted by bandits who, for no apparent reason, tied her to the train tracks. Thank goodness the Shadow happened by.
  6. Yes, I was fortunate to have picked these up on Ebay.
  7. Many folks consider PL #23 to be one of the best covers in the run, and it's a lot less common than PL #17. Some lucky buyer out there must be feeling very happy.
  8. Don't forget this one: Giant Comics Edition #6 Western Picture Stories - New Hampshire | Lot #95092 | Heritage Auctions $11,400 for a 7.0, and it's not even a Promise copy.
  9. That same copy went for $11,350 in 2013. I find today's result to be shocking, especially for such a high demand book.
  10. "Pre-hero" typically means the books in a title that preceded the introduction of a superhero. Tec 1-26 are generally considered to be pre-hero, even though the Crimson Avenger made his debut in Tec 20. Issues 1-51 in the More Fun title are considered pre-hero, as are issues 1-39 in the Adventure title.
  11. Yes, the Tec #28 went for a slight discount. But interestingly, the Palos Verdes copy of Detective #2 went for a substantial premium over what the same book sold for only two years ago ($8700 vs. $4300): Detective Comics #2 (DC, 1937) CGC GD- 1.8 Cream to off-white | Lot #83105 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)
  12. The three Batman Promise books went for around 30% less than they just sold for only 6 months ago. Ouch.
  13. This should be an interesting and informative indicator of current market conditions. Many of the Palos Verdes books were bought within the last couple of years, including a few from the Promise collection.
  14. At first I thought it was to show that he was mumbling incoherently.
  15. Classic Black Cat bondage cover. My favorite of Schomburg's Speed covers.
  16. Looking at the Allentown list that Lou linked to a few pages back, I wonder where the Tec #31 and #35 ended up? I've never heard anyone claim to know where they are. The Dentist?
  17. For the highest regarded pedigrees, the pedigree status unquestionably makes a difference in the FMV. The most obvious example being Church copies, which consistently sell for more than similarly graded, and sometimes even higher graded, non-pedigree copies.
  18. It's uncanny how similar the mild scuffing on the spine of Richard's copy is almost identical to that on the Promise copy. I actually did a double take and looked up the Promise copy to see if it was the same copy.
  19. So what is the explanation for this healthy price? Are Baker books in 8.5 that rare? Is there something about this particular issue? Or is it just the Promise bump?
