All-Time Shadow thread...

This is a strange market. It's interesting to compare some of the sales in this HA auction. The 9.0 white page Church copy of Flash 42 (second highest graded copy on the census) went for $3,720. By comparison, a non-pedigree 6.0 light tan page copy of New Adventure 14 (4th highest graded copy) went for more, $3,840.

Thanks woowoo. What year was that interview done?

Here's what GCD says: "His career began around 1940, providing illustrations for pulp fiction magazines and working in comics through the Harry “A” Chesler studio. Some of his work was published in Fiction House titles, particularly “Fight Comics”.Kamen was drafted in 1942 and served in World War II. After the war, he joined the Jerry Iger Studio. His worked appeared in Fiction House again, as well as Fox Features and Harvey."

Just this week, I won a book on HA for 15% less than my maximum bid.

Are you referring to a S&S Superman tryout in the Dr. Occult story? I don't believe those went past issue no. 17.
-
Just goes to show that the current soaring market is affecting all genres and not just the Promising ones.
-
Adv. 38 - $12,000; Adv. 39 - $3,840. These are record prices that far exceed previous sales.
-
Great run. Which cover is your favorite?
-
For the record, I don't recall that Flessel specifically said that Adventure 38 is Flanagan. And although it is a "jungle cover," the Adventure 38 art does look distinct from other covers that are attributed to Flanagan, such as Adventures 37 and 39.
-
Both of these books were certified in 2007, before we learned from Creig Flessel that these are Flanagan covers.
-
As well as a lower grade Adv. 39 that looks nice for its grade.
-
Looks like a very sharp Adventure 38 will be coming up on Heritage: Adventure Comics #38 (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Cream to off-white | LotID #39003 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)

I'm unable to sign in to the Boards when using Microsoft Edge as my browser. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

One of the interesting insights that is buried in this lengthy post is the evolution of CGC. What started out as a company that was used primarily to spot undisclosed restoration has morphed into a company that is now used primarily to increase the grades (and related values) of unrestored books. It does this by advocating and being part of a process that involves various physical manipulations, many of which would not have increased a book's value before CGC.

Anybody know the story on the supposed fake Bethlehems?
RareHighGrade replied to buttock's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Not sure this version makes it any better or more forgivable, especially if the tampering was never disclosed in subsequent sales. -
It does look much nicer than a 6.0. The grade must be due to interior issues.

Gorgeous copy Rick!! I love that cover.
