  1. $11,400, almost 30X Guide. Can anyone explain why it went for so much?
  2. It appears New Adventures are enjoying a resurgence, with the mid-grade nos. 30 and 31 going for 4-5X Overstreet Guide. @lou_fine, I know you've been waiting for this to finally happen.
  3. It's somewhat humorous that the notes say "Double Cover: 1st cover 9.2, interior cover 8.5." I would have expected the reverse description. If the 1st cover, with that horribly damaged lower right corner, is 9.2, what on Earth does the lower graded interior cover look like?
  4. Classic Baker girl! Too bad she didn't get the whole cover.
  5. Sagii, thanks so much for posting this interview, it was great to watch and felt like a walk down Memory Lane. Although Mark has been subjected to various criticisms over the years, I will say this based on my personal experiences with him. I've known him since the late 1980's and always found him to be extremely knowledgeable about comics and collecting, very engaging and customer oriented, and also open and honest about the books he was selling. The interview is interesting and informative, but in some ways sad as well. I'm glad to see that he has a good relationship with his son, who seems like a nice kid.
  6. The prices fetched for the Pinnacle Hill books in last September's auction all look like steals today.
  7. The Top Notches in today's auction also got a lot of love, with prices ranging from 3X to 10X Overstreet Guide, even with restoration.
  8. Apparently, MLJ's super hero titles have become the new Fox SH books in terms of popularity.
  9. Dom, I have to say your company picked the right guy to address the Boards. I'm impressed by how you've managed to stay calm, polite and gracious under the barrage of often hostile comments and inquiries. I hope you folks can iron out the wrinkles and become competitive. It never hurts to have another auction house to consider.
  10. I'm pretty sure it's a Christmas ornament based on the way the humans are dressed and the fact that it appears the scene takes place in a room indoors. But until now, I never noticed the setting. It's an apt one for this time of year. [I need a Santa emoji to post here]
  11. There's a very pretty 6.0 Tec 28 coming up in the next Heritage auction. It's been a while since a nice unrestored copy of that issue was available. Detective Comics #28 (DC, 1939) CGC FN 6.0 Off-white to white | LotID #157051 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)
  12. Great cover. That's a beautiful copy that looks more like an 8.0 or 9.0 than a 4.5. I assume it has a significant spine split or is missing half the back cover?
  13. The handwritten "Flanagan" on this one is fascinating. It was only a few years ago that the hobby discovered that Richard Flanagan was the artist on these jungle covers. It's highly unlikely that, since that recent discovery, a collector would have written the name on the cover, which means it was likely written long ago. But by whom and why? I'd love to know the story behind this.
  14. Yes, I would love it if GA had its own selling thread. It would be more efficient for those who focus on GA. Those who have a broader focus could simply look through both forums. The way it is now reminds me of ComicConnect, where GA collectors have to wade through pages of non-GA books to see if there are any GA of interest. Sometimes it feels like looking for a needle in a haystack and not worth the effort.
  15. One of the interesting assertions in Bob's rant is that only 10% of the SF books had the stamp or distributor mark. If that's true, many of us are holding SF books without knowing the provenance. It's also interesting that he refers to the stamp as an "anchor stamp," rather than a "Reilly stamp," meaning the stamp is not supposed to say "Reilly."
  16. Outstanding. How long have you been working on that?
  17. I thought the combination of the Nic Cage HA auction and the development of the CGC Boards jump-started the GA market in 2002, but maybe I'm misremembering.
  18. I've always liked CP #7, and thought this copy was a beauty, but I dropped out long before it reached almost 20X the price a 9.0 last sold for.
