  1. Wow. Sets of #1-6 1st prints as starting to heat up again. WTF? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=east+of+west+1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR5.TRC1.A0.Xnowhere+men+1&_nkw=nowhere+men+1&_sacat=0 The sale at $79.99 for a set is amazing.
  2. There is a CDN newsstand copy of X-Factor #6 on eBay if anyone is interested..... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/X-Factor-6-Jul-1986-Marvel-1st-app-Apocalypse-Very-Hot-Comic-/331110173341?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4d17b44a9d#ht_124wt_1363
  3. Unless Harley gets her own movie, or is the featured villain in a D.C. movie, this book will fall below NM #98. A version of Deadpool has already been featured in the Wolverine movie. A Deadpool movie being made is more of a certainty than a Harley movie being made, especially since Marvel is more willing to make movies concerning their "B" and "C" level characters (we're going to be getting GOTG and Rocket Racoon as a blockbuster movie for god's sake). D.C. can't even get movies of their "A" list characters like Wonder Woman, or Aquaman made for god's sake. By the time the deluge of B.A. #12's return from their "vacations" in Florida, I see it finally settling in the $250-$300 range. Not a bad price, but since the census numbers in 9.8 are likely to quintuple the numbers that were present during the $1,000 sale, the price will lower as there will be more supply to meet demand. And as the book lowers as the extra copies come up for sale, the demand will lower because people will realize just how many copies are really out there, and that it was never "rare". It will pull back, but I am not certain it will fall that far. My guess is that it will settle in the $400 - $500 range as there is plenty of demand for the book. I was saw a copy sell in raw 9.0 (seller called NM) for $200 at a show last year, so $400 for a slabbed 9.8 is not unreasonable. I view Copper/Modern 9.8s as the equivalent of 9.4 BA keys WRT supply. I can remember having the same discussions with people here and at shows about BA keys being overvalued 10 years ago since they were so abundant and all they have done is gone up over time. Is there a shortage of common BA keys like Hulk #181, ASM #129 or GSX #1? Not at all. If the book does pull back to the $250 - $300 range in 9.8 I will be buying. We are starting to see the first big jump in prices for CA keys just like it happened with SA keys in the late 90s/early 2000s and BA keys in the mid 2000s. My only problem with those two jumps was selling too early with the first run up, which at a 2 - 3 x return turned out to be a relatively small profit over the longer term.
  4. No clue, but I would sell X-Men #94s to buy GS X-Men #1s at OSPG, I guess.
  5. Thanks. It is more timing than anything. Right now there seem to be a lot of longer term collectors up here that are starting to offload their collections. A lot of them stopped collecting in the 80s, but the quality of collections is all over the place.
  6. Here are my entries from a nice OO collection I snagged last March/April:
  7. Awesome FF shot Mr. Bedrock. Congrats on putting together such a great run. (thumbs u I like the GA group shots you posted as well.
  8. If you are chasing newsstand editions, wait for the Canadian one instead. Likely the same price but print run should be 10% of the US version. I already have a US 9.8 direct and a CAD 9.8 NS. Trying to finish off the trifecta with a US NS. Very nice! (thumbs u
  9. If you are chasing newsstand editions, wait for the Canadian one instead. Likely the same price but print run should be 10% of the US version. There is a mark Jeweler Version of this book as well. It's probably more rare than the canadian version ( id guess 5% of the US run, they are pretty hard to come by ).... Although MJ books have never gotten their fair shake. I guess because it's not a " cover" variant. I have a copy, but it's only a VF on a good day. MJ books in high grades are impossible. The print run on books distributed to Canada should have been ~10% of the US to start with based on population, so 10% (for CDN newsstand) of 10% = ~1% of US print run. That being said, I would agree that the MJ books are likely harder to find in HG. I have picked up way more 9.0+ CDN newsstand books than MJs over the years.
  10. If you are chasing newsstand editions, wait for the Canadian one instead. Likely the same price but print run should be 10% of the US version.
  11. Besides the Joker, Ras is the coolest Bat villain. It's about time Ras Al Ghul started to rise in value. I regret walking away from the CLink auction last year when the 9.4 went for $550. I have a 227 in 9.4 and would like a matching 232. Like you, I believe that Ras Al Gul is the best villain after the Joker. One day I will pick it up again. This has long been an underrated BA key. It is the most important Batbook post-1970 and if not for the high supply would have run up higher already. It is interesting - a few years back you could pick up VF or better copies of any Adams Batbooks readily. Now the supply is fairly dry.
  12. As I packed it last night, I (as always) had seller's remorse. On closer inspection, the book has a serious chance at a 9.9 - not a single flaw. It's not a 9.9, It's a 9.8. might even be a 9.6 with the way CGC has been latley, getting back surefire 9.8's as a 9.6...can't find a single thing wrong! CGC says 9.6, starting to think CGC is trying to make sure they don't hand out to many 9.8's. It's their way of guaranteeing continuing submissions. They have their "loose" periods where everybody gets ecstatic by getting higher grades than they were expecting coming back. Then they "toughen" up their standards for a few months, enraging people by giving grades that were much lower than expected. The genius of this plot, they know that once word gets out that they're in another "loose" phase, everybody and they momma is going to re-submit the books that were under-graded in the first place. Admit it, you've all fallen for it. You get the under-graded books back, steam over it, then when word comes out that they're loose again, you re-submit the book, and then are over-joyed by the grade bump. The true "suckers" in this instance are the re-submitters, because CGC got them to pay grading fees not just once, and sometimes, more than 3 times, just to get the grade the submitter felt the book should have gotten the first time. True enough, but my experience the past couple of years has been this - submissions during convention season are delayed but loose grading. Submissions from October - March, tighter grading. That being said, some bigger submitters like Sparkle City seem to get gift grades on a consistent basis. The two factors that appear to be driving the fluctuations are the volume of books being processed and the experience of the graders. A couple of years ago when some of the long standing and experienced graders left there was a noticeable soft period as the new graders learned the system.
  13. It is? There is a pop in most grades from 6.5 - 9.2 in December and January on GPA. 8.5s are now a $400+ book, and the last 9.2 hit $910 (but this is likely an aberration).
  14. I have the U.S newsstand edition and the $1.35 is certainly the Canadian. I had a brain freeze there. Those DC Canadian Editions throw me for a loop sometimes. I think my favourite has to be Batman #400 and the ol' $2.10. This is another cool price variant as well from the bitter end.
  15. As I packed it last night, I (as always) had seller's remorse. On closer inspection, the book has a serious chance at a 9.9 - not a single flaw. Understood, but CGC has just enough variation in their grading at the very high end that buying a raw book and subbing it is a crapshoot. What is a 9.8 one day, is only a 9.6 the next, and a 9.9 two days later. Congrats on the sale, though. That is an awesome price for a raw copy.
  16. Based on recent auction action it looks like Batman #232 is starting to pop.
  17. Disney is a gift that could keep on giving to comic speculation.
  18. Congrats to Divad! Someone is obviously paying for the stated grade, but I would never suggest rolling the dice on a raw 9.8 no matter how nice it looks as depending on the day at CGC it could just as easily come back as a 9.6 as it could hit 9.9.
  19. Well, the seller stated it was a NM/MT 9.8 copy...........
  20. I have owned several copies of the Captain Atom #1 newsstand and they were all $1.35. There are a few weird newsstand priced books - I have not had one for a bit, but I believe that COPS #1 is a $1.65 cover price or something like that. Towards the end they were gouging, I guess.
  21. To get this back on track, here are some Boxing day pickups from a LCS: 1st Appearance of Terra
  22. Not the incentive variants. You said variants, not incentive variants. If I recall correctly, some of them are 1:25 anyways - #3 and #9 come to mind. The 1:200 B&W variants seem to be holding up well respective to the "full retail" I could get them for here locally. Not all stores gouge when they price things at "full retail". Pretty clear I was talking about the incentive variants that get marked up differently depending where you buy them. The 1:25 variants are not doing well either. The higher end ones, the sketch variants, do particularly poorly long term. These are books that you preorder or find for cheap upon release and flip. They aren't something you buy into after they are already out there with the idea that they will be selling for more money a week from now or two months from now. Again, it depends on the"full retail" you are charged at the LCS. My file LCS does not gouge file holders like the other LCSs do in town. They value the longterm business from their file customers more than the one time gouge and price the retailer incentives accordingly. For example, they moved the ASM #700 Ditko 1:700 to their largest file customer for $100, even though they knew it was going for more on eBay (I was second in line for that one if he passed on it ). Could they make more? Definitely. But keeping customers happy for their long term business is more important. There are a couple of other LCSs in town that readily mark up incentives, but their full retail still leaves plenty of room for profit on eBay with variants. (thumbs u

  24. Well that's a very broad statement, and thus incorrect. Please list all of the Batman variants from the new 52 that sell for more on the secondary market than their original listed retail price. I got almost all of the variants (multiple copies on most) for cover to $6 apiece from LCSs = full retail and have been selling the earlier ones for $10 - $20 apiece no problem. The more recent variants go for $6 - $10 on Ebay as well.
  25. There is a Booster Gold #1-11 set in High Grade up on Heritage tonight if anyone is interested....... http://comics.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=121352&lotNo=14138
