  1. Is anyone bidding on the Twin Cities GL run that is ending on Heritage tonight? That copy of #7 looks a bit soft to me for an 8.0, but it is a nice looking set of books overall.
  2. Ok, I have to ask, did one of us 227 freaks step up and nab this one? I doubt anyone here would spend almost $300 on a F/VF copy w/ C/OW pages. That is what CR/OW looks like? I have never cracked open any of my CR/OW slabs, and the page quality on OO books up here in the arid and cool north are off-white/white at the worst.
  3. I think all the oldies in this thread know that S22 has always been tough to find. Early mail order days, CBG days, and now the internet days. The movie did not change that. Anyone who follows movie hype is just chasing rainbows. Quite a bit of volume for raw and graded copies the last few weeks. Looks like folks who wanted to run for the exit...mostly did. Must resist temptation..........the prices have not dropped far enough yet.................
  4. Wow, I can actually join a non-DC club thanks to a new arrival. This is actually the only copy of the book that I have ever owned (the only other Marvel SA key that I have not ever had a copy of is FF #1, and I don't think I will ever own one either.)
  5. And it isn't a "VF/NM" either.........even with a press. Very true. I think I saw that listing 2 minutes after it was posted. Centering is excelllent. Spine has a few too many tics not to mention the back cover crease (which could be pressed, I believe). The page quality isn't the best either. Come on Kimik, auction off that raw you posted in this thread!!!!!! I never see a ubergraded raw copy. Sorry, but that is a keeper copy.................for now anyways. In reality, it is probably just a 9.2 at best due to the spine dings.
  6. This is just the tip of the iceberg. As we see with the Atlantic City collection, there are still a lot of nice GA stashes that will come to light as owners age and/or the economy continues to struggle.
  7. Haganland has one. There's a pic posted of it in this thread where there's debate whether it should be a 9.2 or not. Debate aside, it's a really nice copy with white pages and I liked it enough to ask them if it was still available. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4914181 They didn't actually quote me price, but mentioned that the GPA averages trend towards $700 and that they would be open to fair offers. You can reach them at: haganland@hotmail.com Based on that book, what would this one be?
  8. Low grade, mid grade, high grade, you can never have too many Bats #227s.
  9. Or collectors that played the run up and are looking to get back in. (thumbs u
  10. Right at the beginning of the big speculative run up. (thumbs u It will be interesting to see how things trend if you keep the list going for another year or two. My guess is a pull back like some of the Marvel movie-related SA keys, but probably not too bad overall.
  11. I will have one for sale soon once it comes back from CGC. (thumbs u Another GL7 or GL1...what grade. GL #1 (thumbs u
  12. Rich or I would bid ONE more dollar than you... I am always happy to get outbid when prices are dropping. As Confucius says: It is better to pick up the knife from the floor after it has cut off the fingers of the person trying to catch it on the way down.
  13. You should all sell now before it is too late! ( in the hopes that flooding the market will drive down prices with the movie hype gone and I can pick up a keeper 7.0 copy for $4 - $5 K).
  14. He has a Showcase #22 for sale. who doesn't I don't.
  15. and yet it seems year after year, more and more "new" and "former" sa collectors move to gold Enh. I think that's more "hype" than anything else. There's a small pool of folks who move over to collect "the best". I don't see many see Captain Marvel collectors. To me, the vast majority of GA is going the way of Westerns etc. It's inflated in the guide overall, and even most of the non key mid range books of the major titles have shown little interest or movement in sales. Sure, some guys move to Timelys etc. But new folks entering in the market are generally going to SA/BA for vintage, not Gold. And I think the real question isn't why some people move over, but why more people aren't collecting Gold at all. There aren't "more and more" folks moving over. There are some, but nearly enough interest to support the vast majority of material which exists out there. matter of perspective, I guess...I see far more GA collectors approaching me at shows and inquiring about books than ever before... and I hear the "I used to collect spider-man" or whatever... that said, it is a matter, as mentioned, of perspective... will AF 15 demand always be greater than most any GA book... sure... will the affodability factor of most SA and BA keep a "majority" of collectors buying that genre...likely.... but, I see more former SA collectors asking about Gold, PM'ing me, etc etc, that is looks plenty bright imo... and no one has collected captain marvel in a decade plus It's been typical for a couple decades that a large chunk of GA collectors get there after migrating from SA. The larger number of collectors and new entrants to the hobby is definitely SA/BA so if you don't have a GA focus you might not notice the subsequent migration. You need only spend a few minutes in this thread to realize that collecting in most every era is focused on only a portion of what was published. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4712043#Post4712043 As far as SA affordability vs. GA, this was discussed recently in GA. It's not quite as simple as popular sentiment would have it. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4846446&fpart=1 It will always be a paramount challenge to sway a Spidey lover to a Bat or Supe lover. I mean, that's what you're saying. I went from a Marvel Zombie Spidey and X-Men fanboy to an enlightened Batman fanboy. Now I would say that I am a Neal Adams fanboy. FWIW, I am have been in that BA/SA to GA transition phase for a couple of years now. I had an aborted switch a couple of years ago (sold off my GA books for an investment opportunity during the bottoming in 2009), but now I am going to slowly make the shift. It will require more patience, unfortunately, since the books I like are pricey right now, but it will hopefully help to restoke the collecting passion that I am finding is waning for me now.

  17. What about GA collections, though. Looking at the number of "new" copies of Action #1 and Detective #27 that have surfaced over the past couple of years, there are probably a lot of GA collections lurking in the weeds as well. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the market holds up over the next decade as more of these collections start to surface as the Boomers begin to retire en masse. Speed dating for seniors will be "How much is your comic collection worth" from now on instead of what is in your investment portfolio! we will probably be seeing more and more GA too, but this is a SA forum so I limited my response to that era Gotcha, but I like hearing words of wisdom from you re: GA as well. Some of us will end up there eventually. (thumbs u

  20. Is this the copy you have mention in the past Roy and do you know the PQ? Thanks. I know nothing about the book other than that there will be a 9.0 on the census soon. Very nice! Still no 9.2 or better, though..........
  21. What a collosal fu ck up on the marketing. $125 million for that campaign? What a joke! I have not seen the film yet, but reading the reviews it got me wondering if part of the problem with the film was that adding Johns' input made it stray too far from the original Emerald Dawn storyline it was supposed to be based on. While adding Paralax makes sense from the current comic mythos, it might have been much simpler to have just gone with the whole insect alien goop in a yellow suit as the bad guy wanting revenge angle and having Parallax pop up at the end as the lurking yellow/fear weakness. In addition, the Emerald Dawn approach of focusing the beginning on Hal Jordan would have built up the character a bit better than the intro to the GL corps/mythos. This is what made Iron Man work - here is Tony the playboy, he gets abducted and humbled, then he does something about it. The reason I liked Emerald Dawn so much as a kid when I first read it was here is Hal, he lost his Dad so you feel sorry for him, he screws up bad, then gets a chance to redeem himself.
  22. It will be interesting to see how the GL flick does a week out. If word of mouth is good it will have decent legs as people that were scared away by the initial critics' reviews. I still can't believe they spent $300 million on it. Was a lot of that marketing? If yes, the marketing team for the flick should be canned (and would be if I was in charge ). As far as the Captain America movie goes, coming out last could hurt it due to viewer fatigue. Mind you, the GL movie will only have two weeks to make any money because the crowds will turn to Transformers 3 next. Too many big films coming out every two weeks could dampen the returns for all of them.
  23. It will be interesting to see what happens with this flick over the long haul. As word of mouth spreads that it was good it should have staying power and do well. (thumbs u Please let it hit Pirates 4 box office numbers when all is said and done...........
  24. The movie ain't out a day and you ordain it a flop. Man, there sure are a lot of optimists here 22 on rotten tomatoes, 40 on metacritic. it's a critical flop. based on midnight screenings, the estimates for opening weekend domestic are $55-60mm. as the noted sage JC stated many years ago, a studio can buy a big opening weekend by flooding the market with advertising. horrible word of mouth will result in domestic BO dropping like a stone. the thing reportedly cost $300mm for production and advertising. Int'l BO will have to be $400mm+ for the movie to break even. i don't think anyone's going out on a limb to call it a flop. Wait until the final tally before declaring it a flop. Look at the Hangover 2, as an example. It has a low Tomatoes score, but last time I checked it is outdoing Thor and X-Men 1st Class by a long shot. I bet Green Lantern will do bigger box office than both Thor and X-men First Class each did. Like I said in another thread, there are a lot of haters for this Green Lantern picture and I don`t know why? maybe because according to 3/4's of the professional movie reviewers, they made a pile of poo Doesn't matter what the "critics" think. The Hangover 2 and Pirates 4 both had low Tomatoes scores and if GL does close to Pirates 4's box office numbers then Warner Bros will greenlight 2 sequels, not just one. (thumbs u
