  1. One thing that this release from Keith Marlow reinforces to me is that GIC 93 may be the toughest of them all in grade. 80 is a bear, and may not exist above 8.0, 91 is tough, but not impossible (4 in 8.0), but 93 is just not out there. Highest census is a 7.5, and I don't know ANYONE else with a HG copy. Anyone know of any out there? I think 88 is the only other without a copy in 8.0 or higher.
  2. I agree with Don Winslow, but I have a hard time with most any of the Fiction House and Real Life/True. I think most of the FH titles were initially intended to be war-themed, but ended up changing. Rangers & Fight were more super-hero/adventure oriented when they started. Real Life/True usually had at least one war-themed story, but it wasn't consistent throughout the title. Heroic is another that was semi war-themed. But in terms of "just" war like the 50s & 60s titles, I think the list is pretty short. But that holds true for most genres. The different themed comics just didn't exist until the late 1940s across the board. So the fact that Dell had a couple out in the early WWII era is pretty amazing!
  3. A few that come to mind would be: War Comics (Dell 1940) United States Marines & American Air Forces (ME 1943) War Heroes (Dell 1942) And there were various one-shots (Guadalcanal Diary, MacArthur, etc.) But for titles dedicated to a war theme prior to Korea, not much else comes to mind.
  4. It'll take some work, but I'll see if I can make room. How's the innards on that Zip 38? I've stopped at #35 and I'm wondering if I'm missing any gems after the WWII covers stopped.
  5. Steve, the easiest way to get to the bottom of this is for you to send me a stack of MLJs to review...20-25 oughtta do it.
  6. It's on the want list (thumbs u Everything is on your want list
  7. Ok, now I'm more confused. Stories 2 & 4 look like the same artist, probably not Maneely. Neither is signed. Story 1 doesn't look like Maneely after all, the splash does, but the rest does not, but it looks like a different artist than 2 & 4. Story 3 is signed by Syd Shores, so it ain't Romita. I could see Kida on 2 & 4, and maybe on 1, but 1 looks different enough from the others to make me wonder. At least I know about #3
  8. Ok, I'll take some pics. There is a background on one of the splash pages that is absolute Maneely. I've talked with Atlastales about another cover that I thought was Kida, but they had as someone else, so it wouldn't shock me
  9. Well, while we're on topic, Atlastales has the interior of Black Knight 4 as Kida/Kida/Maneely, but there are 4 stories and it looks more like Maneely/Maneely/???/Maneely
  10. . I wholly agree. Sort of like getting upset when the snarling pit bull bites you after you try to pet it. Some things in life are predictable.
  11. Oh my. You probably deserve to be put in the HOS yourself for even trying to deal with him.
  12. I'm just proud of the human race that we've got 2 or 3 pages into a discussion on racism and nobody has spelled it "rascist". Good job guys, incremental progress.
  13. I like the pool table shots better But, ...but you can't see the book details as well in those digital camera shots on the pool table! Maybe if I used a red felt backing on my scanner it'll make the pool table fanciers happier. Here's another scan (framed by a darker background) of a book that I've had in my collection since the mid-70's; I hope this leaves a more favorable impression... Al spelled your name wrong!
