  1. Thank you! This book is from the collection of a seller I've dealt with over and over and so I'm very confident in its provenance and lack of restoration. And having examined it myself, I saw no evidence of any. But generally, on raw books, it is always a possibility.
  2. The thing is, if this book comes back anything lower than a 9.2, then I probably get to crack it and love it and hug it and name it George instead of selling it. So really it’s a no-lose!
  3. I would say a 4.0 because of the tears maybe a 4.5, but I'll take this kind of VG over one with rounded corners and a reader's crease/spine wear any day!
  4. Paging DR X . I love how anything can turn into a debate on here!
  5. This book is a dream of a dream! Love seeing truly rare and special things come up on here. GLWTS!
  6. I assumed they all fainted and hadn’t regained consciousness. But now it might be time for a wellness check! 😝 In all seriousness, thanks for the kind words, and for bumping the thread up! I was giving opinions on some books last night while I was waiting for replies here, and did notice that grading the mid-grade books was more engaging for me than high-grade, so maybe that’s part of it?
  7. I’m at a 3.0 only because something about the staples makes me feel less good about it structurally. But thank you so much, I came into this thread going “lol they got autocorrected on Firestar” and now I have a whole new series to look at!
  8. I’m at a 9.4 because of the wear on the TRFC (I think it may be other places). Not scientific, but I just think of that being the kind of defect a 9.6 doesn’t have. Beautiful copy!
  9. I completely agree. Beyond the quality of the work (I’ve had good and not impressive from CGC) you don’t get to consult with the person working on your book before-hand and you don’t get to see the results before it’s graded. Those two things make all the difference to me. You don’t necessarily have to find someone local. There are several ppl who accept books by mail and will send it through to CGC for you under their or your account
  10. I’ve seen some pretty intensive light and whitening/stain removal treatments that have come back blue. That stuff isn’t only in YouTube videos. And I can say from personal experience that Bronze Age is definitely the sweet spot for improbability. The fact that the paper isn’t glossy yet but the cover stock is so solid - or something more science-y - but the amount of work you can do on this era of book without worrying about damaging it is unmatched in my experience. That said, water stains can be tricky because of them migrating instead of jut staying put or going away (sometimes called “tide lines”) I think a lot of this comes down to taste and knowing when to stop. Good luck to you and good luck to your presser! Please share raw pics after pressing it you can remember to!
  11. Who am I to disagree with everyone? But I'm with you, I think it could eke out a 6.5, especially with a press to make it present a little better at grade. And that at a 6.0, it'll be a really nice example of the grade. I want a piece of this first hulk run so bad (#5 is a top 10 cover for me). So awesome to see one of these before it's slabbed. Thanks!
  12. I'm at 3.0 as well, and thanks for sharing this awesome cover!
  13. I'm trying to figure out a grade, but first - I've never seen a book crying out more for a simple clean and press. I want to pull it out of the screen and stick it in my press right now! It's what I love about being able to press my own books - nothing more satisfying than taking a book like this and making it better. I'm gonna say it's a 2.0 as is, a possible 3.5 after a clean and press that probably doesn't make monetary sense but would be SO satisfying?
  14. After principally collecting silver for a while, I'm astounded at how trash the printing quality of the comics we read were. Even some of the Byrne era X-Men I have now, I look at them and I'm like how could I even tell this guy was great back then?
  15. I'm at a 9.0 because of the slight blunting on the corners and the spine ticks. It's hard to see from the pics which are color breaking and which might be pressable. Good luck! It's a great copy!

    My 1st 9.9

Giving us all hope with that 9.9 on a non-modern book! That's one small grade increment for a collector, one giant leap for the hobby.
  17. Also, aside from just giving a number, let me just say this is MY KINDA 6.0! Gorgeous color strike, next to no spine wear. I'll take edge wear any day over spine wear, and personally I'll take a subscription crease over a reader's crease any day! Grade aside, this is a winner, imo!
  18. Hi gang, I purchased this copy of X-Men 6 and my eyes popped out of my head when it arrived. It's on its way to CGC, so the pics here are what I have, but I hope they're exhaustive enough. Looking for a prospective grade. Thanks!
  19. I'm at a 6 as well. I don't know that cleaning/pressing would affect the grade here, but it would certainly make it present better.
  20. Right this is the rub. I'm going to try lots and then maybe we arrive at "make a lot". But the "make a lot" falls apart when its like someone claims 5 books, but someone else has claimed one of them and then you have to ask if they want a replacement but in the meantime someone else has claimed another one etc etc.
  21. I have done this before, just on a different venue. But thanks! I'll probably list them in batches anyway. I do have all materials ready from when they were listed before though. But I think I'm gonna go with lots of 5-10 books once they get into non-keys and basically above 140 or 150. Thanks for the input!
  22. The lot thing is definitely appealing on a lot of levels, I just don’t know how I would break them up since I feel like a lot of this may be individual fill for any one collector. Maybe break the books up by price and have a “make a lot” thing where you can pick books into a lot of X books or X value for one shipping rate or something? The price tiers I think basically follow the series every 25 issues or so. Working title is looking like “CORVONIE’S CONVEYER-BELT SUSHI-STYLE-SALE”
