  1. Well how about I vocally play devils advocate as someone who still buys HG slabs, though with everything we (I) have learned over the past few years that frequency has subsided.

As an indication of how much the shenanigans in this hobby have affected me, back in the day I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on HG slabs--annually. I now spend less than ten thousand dollars on HG slabs each year.

You should have put some of that money into HK real estate, buddy. :baiting:

    Richmond,B.C. ?

  2. I'm curious how anyone would know that he is a CL consignor.
    I highly doubt anyone knows

So do I. But the claim has been made in this thread with no evidence to back it up.

I think supapimp is just assuming. Doubt he has hard evidence.
  3. No, Jason Ewert is not a ComicLink consignor.
lol I really doubt he's using his name.

What steps would you suggest CL does to keep him from consigning?

Should they get a photo id from every consigner? What is to keep JE from submitting books to CGC under a different name? How do we know he is not here selling on our boards?

If anyone knows he is operating under different names, why isn't this shared?

Exactly my point. No one can say for sure. Thats why to say Jason Ewert is not a clink consignor is ridiculous.

I'm more curious how CGC detects this micro trimming. Anyone ?

  4. So, in order to nip this conspiracy theory in the bud...

The DD 11 9.6 is/was actually from my personal collection. I thought it was a good time to sell it, because the Rocky Mountain DD's are also in the auction. I didn't know it was on that list. Now that I do, it will be going to CGC for a review (for trimming) prior to being sent to any buyer. The last thing I'd want is for one of our buyers to be affected if it is trimmed. If it turns out to be, obviously we will notify the buyer immediately and there will be no expectation of payment from the buyer. The only loss will be, in this case, mine.

By the way -- when the whole scandal broke way back when about the trimming situation, I came on the boards and declared that if any CGC Graded books that were sold on ComicLink were found to be trimmed by the buyer, we'd return the buyer's money. Other companies then followed suit. So, there is no risk to a buyer (other than the time value of money) if a book on that list is bought on ComicLink and is subsequently resubmitted to CGC (still in the holder) by the buyer and CGC reviews it and finds it to be trimmed. I did this back then to reestablish confidence in the CGC market, at least for the CGC books on ComicLink. It also prevents us from having to review a list every time we post a book!

List ? of Ewert books ? and other possible trim job books ? Can we see ? If not, approx. how long is this list ?
  5. I wasn't understanding. The uncertified SS book can never be out of the sight of the witness, correct? They can't crack it in front of CGC, take it home, and re-cert at a later date? That's why I was wondering how CGC could guarantee it was the same book.

If I had an SS book I wanted to read (I know. Just suspend your disbelief for a moment, okay.) I would have it cracked out by a CGC employee at the booth such as; Gemma, Bill (when he was there) or Joe. I would have to read the book at the booth and then resubmit it for Signature Series grading. It would still retain the yellow label. Not the best of scenarios convenience wise, but it does provide the opportunity to read, feel or smell a book that most believe to be forever off limits.

Are you laughing while typing this Watson ? Who's really gonna do this (shrug) Possible, yes. Ridiculous, very.
  6. Well, the pedigree itself is all about history, traceability, and point of origin. A creators signature, especially an important, legacy-type creator, like Lily Renee, Alex Toth, Frank Frazetta, Neal Adams, Berni Wrightson, Robert Crumb, and so on, just adds to the historicity of the item, adds a fresh point of traceability that ties back to the absolute origin of the book, and the work found therein. In essence, adds to the pedigree.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. Take the Tally Ho Frazetta for example that someone had signed. Edgar Church stored these books away and they survived in beautiful condition. Many years later Joe Schmoe has them signed and changes their appearance from the rest of the collection. When Church had this comic it had no sig. To me it compromises the integrity of the collection. What I'm trying to say is that it creates disparity within the pedigree collection. Every time a ped is signed there is a great disturbance in the force.
