  1. Probably could have taken Trinidad or Tobago, but not both at the same time.
  2. I sort of figured that could be what happened. Reading through CGC’s prescreen information on their website, it doesn’t mention that this could happen. Maybe I missed it, but it would seem there should be a disclaimer or something. Was just curious about whether this is a common occurrence.
  3. First time I’ve ever used the prescreening service for a submission. Glad I did because based on the number of rejects I am clueless about grading. At any rate, I set the prescreen level to 9.8. According to the invoice I received today, one of the books graded 9.6 (no graders notes) and was slabbed. Is this a common occurrence...to have a comic book that falls below the selected prescreen level still get slabbed and charged the full price? If it is a common occurrence, that would seem to defeat the purpose of prescreening. Could it be a label error?
  4. Good question. To the best of my knowledge, there were not. But it’s always possible and unfortunately, there is not a master list. There was so much variation in the initials that both of the Nationals posted above could make an argument for being a Cookeville copy.
  5. The detached cover brought the grade down on this otherwise nice looking copy. That made it more affordable. Well, that and buying it a long time ago.
  6. AND to find a soldier with no feeling in his big toe. I would think having a matchstick shoved under your toenail might be somewhat uncomfortable and alert the soldier that something was afoot. Get it? Afoot. Thank you. Be sure to tip your waitress.
  7. As for me, I’m battling.000 for this auction. Took one good whack at an offering, but at the last second the outfielder made a leaping grab before it crossed the fence and robbed me of a home run. I’m on the verge of being sent down to the minors and being forced to play in the *shudder* Copper league until my batting average improves. I’ll probably hang up the bat and glove rather than take the demotion.
  8. Congratulations, Sharon. Two lovely pickups on a title that I think has a lot of appeal.
  9. Congrats! Was watching that one and it looks great. The heroes look so surprised that you bought it. Check out those eyes!
  10. Picked up this consolation prize in the May Heritage auction. Surprised that there are only 2 on the census. I love the cover concept of the hot foot for the Japanese soldier, but the artwork seems a bit weak.
  11. I believe I once heard Sqeggs mention that he thought Tom Hanks was brilliant as Batman.
  12. One book that I wanted in the HA auction was the Mile High copy of Real Heroes #1. Not a title that is red hot and I thought I might have a chance. So here’s an example of a comic book that illustrates what I consider the crazy price trends in the GA market. GPA shows this book as a 9.2 selling in 2002 $949. It then resold as a 9.4 at Heritage (I’m assuming after a press) about six months later for $1265. Looks like someone tried to flip it a year later and HA sold it for $805. Ouch. GPA then shows it selling in Oct. 2017 for $1468. So from its peak price in 2002 to 2017, a span of 15 years, it goes up by $203. Yesterday, less than a year since its most recent sale, it goes for $3107! I really thought I put in a strong bid, but I still fell short. It’s a free market and obviously someone wanted the book more than me, but goodness, a comic that appreciated $200 in 15 years then jumps up over $1600 in 6 months.
  13. Got it. Saw the “found it on Heritage” and assumed that’s where the book came from, but now see what you were referring to. Good luck with working something out.
  14. Heritage has always been accommodating when I have had to return a raw book. Once for undisclosed restoration and once for interior damage that brought the listed grade WAY down. The only time I had a small problem was when the customer service rep that answered my email forgot to forward it to the comic book division. Just resulted in a couple weeks delay.
  15. I wanted to wait until the end of this thread before throwing in my congratulations. Truly well done. It’s been a real pleasure watching it unfold.
  16. This was my first Board purchase a few years ago. I had just recently joined and it was a little nerve racking to be sending money to some alligator loving dealer down in Florida. Worked out OK.
  17. None that I'm aware of. @october ?
  18. You’ve summed up my position. My buying has been seriously curtailed for the time being. The almost exponential increases in many parts of the GA market have made me a watcher from the sidelines.
  19. I’ve used catalog cases on wheels for a number of years. Hard sides, locks, handles and it rolls. Of course, you look like a dork with one, but... https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/135840/Solo-Classic-Catalog-Case-Black/?cm_mmc=PLA-_-Google-_-Bags_Luggage-_-135840&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI05OUo6ra2gIVibbACh2aKADpEAQYFyABEgLH1vD_BwE
  20. @woregul PM me your information and I’ll get it in the mail. Thanks and I’m on my way to the gofundme page to make my $100 matching donation.
