  1. I agree. They do kinda grow on you. BTW, this one has 7 on the census.
  2. Hey, Blue Beetle #34 is just about the only Hitler cover I have in high grade, so BACK OFF! (But, yeah, IMHO, it and National #12 shouldn’t be on there)
  3. What's it been...at least a few years, maybe more, since a newly discovered Hitler cover was added to the list? Well, here's one that somehow avoided detection. Easy to see why we could miss this one. The Hitler image is very small, but there are several other covers with very tiny images of Hitler. I think it is clearly deserving to be added to the list. What say you, oh wise Boardies?
  4. Hang tough. Our thoughts are with you, your family, employees, and neighbors, and with everyone affected.
  5. So sorry to hear about your home. Thank goodness the family is safe.
  6. Looks like it’s going to get a little rough down in Panama City. Stay dry and be safe.
  7. Hard to say. If I ventured a guess on the Shadow, I would say it cost at least a full grade, maybe a grade and a half. On the Green Hornet, because it was lower grade to start, I don’t think it had much impact. Maybe a 0.5 drop?
  8. A couple that just came back this month. The Green Hornet has 2 centerfolds detached (but not noted on label).
  9. @skypinkblu Sharon, didn’t you have some decent pictures of the scratches on the inside of the slabs? I can’t get a good shot of them.
  10. In short, earlier submissions had very easily seen ring effects. The most recent batch still has them, but you have to actively look for them and they are not as distracting as those from earlier this year.
  11. Lighter colored covers seem to show the effect the most. Even so, I think the ban on eating Fig Newtons while slabbing the comics (or whatever they're doing) is paying off in less Newton rings.
  12. The Bill Barnes also suffers from the scratches inside the slab. There are about a dozen parallel scratches running horizontally across the logo area. Only one is large enough to photograph. The rest are smaller and faint, but certainly visible in the right lighting.
  13. By comparison, here are some of this month's books. The effect is not gone, but is amerliorated. It's there, but to a much lesser extent and, again, only visible at certain angles.
  14. Also, another Frankenstein from the summer submission:
  15. Now, let me see if I can take a photo that shows the rings at full effect.
  16. Well, I'll give it a shot. Here are a couple shots from a submission that came back in June...about the time that people were beginning to sit up and take notice. Frankenstein #9 (with arrows pointing towards rings)
  17. Got to the office this morning and had a 10 book value submission from June waiting for me. These were slabbed last week. The Newton ring effect is present in most of the books (7 of 10), but is certainly reduced from previous submissions. The effect is still most noticeable on lighter colored covers. I believe Sharon mentioned an issue with scratches on the inside of the slab. There are scratches on 8 of the 10 slabs in this submission. Like the ring effect, the scratches can only be seen when viewing the slabs at an angle to catch the light. I would add photos, but I don’t think any of these defects will photograph or scan well. Overall, I would say that, at least with this batch, there seems to be some improvement in regards to the ring effect. @Sqeggs Ameliorated!

  19. I can’t tell...is there a comic book in that slab? I can’t see anything through all the Newton rings.
