  1. All, I would like to nominate mongoose01 (Mike Deblasio) to the probation list. He and I had a deal going back to mid 2011 for a large stack of Grimm Fairy Tales books. He wanted a list of the books when I started selling off my registry set. He and I agreed on a price for each book that he wanted. Originally, he was to wrap the deal up over the course of several months (Jan 2012), by paying for a few of the books each month. Each month turned to every other month. Every other month turned to him not paying for anything since May. We have exchanged many messages since May, but when I pressed him about wrapping everything up or facing the probation list earlier this month, he stated that he had picked a couple of the books up on eBay at a cheaper prices and no longer needed them. He further stated that, for the other books that he did need, we'd have to come up with a better price that more closely represented the market now. Having held these for so long, I naturally objected... The one issue that he raised that was valid from his last purchase in May was a missing book. It appears that one of the books that he paid for (a Grimm Fairy Tales #55 in 9.9) was not included in the package as it should have been. Mike pointed this out to me this month when I started pushing him about the remaining books. Having found the book in question, I refunded him the $100 for the book until we could settle on the balance for everything. That clearly isn't going to happen. More detail on the missing book, albeit not 100% relevant. Anyone that has purchased from me knows how much I like to use plastic shrink wrap to bind books together. The #55 and two other books were paid for by Mike and being held until another book from eBay arrived. Mike had wanted a $250 Grimm Kickstarter book on eBay and I had fronted him the money. It was being shipped to me and I was going to include it with the three other books. Three shrink wrapped books sat on the desk in my office for the week until the auction ended and the week it took for the kickstarter book to arrive. I saw three books sitting there shrink wrapped together for nearly two weeks. Given the #55 never made it to Mike, it is my belief that another book did. I've tried to narrow down what book may be missing from my slab collection and have an idea, but I own that mistake. There was nothing that I could do but make good on the #55, hence the refund. Anyway, I've alerted Mike that I was nominating him for failure to complete the transaction as agreed upon.
  2. Going to sell off a large chunk of what remains of my collection. Lots of drek (.25 to $1), handful of X-Men slabs and other misc. First thread will be in the SA/BA thread for the slabs that will be followed by a cheap book thread in the modern thread. Should start things off later today or tomorrow (thumbs u
  3. Having an interface to update the list sounds really good. I have a few questions: 1) You said you would put together a web page where the list edits are made that would auto-generate the HTML. Where is the web page going to be hosted? And how will it be accessed? 2) Would the list itself still be residing on the CGC Boards? 3) Will there still be historical copies? That is, a new PL list every time it is changed? It would be extremely helpful if you could explain the actual topography/mechanics and step through the actual process of updating the PL and what happens after it is updated. Thanks! I would write the app page on one of my servers. I don't think any other changes about the list have been discussed, it would still reside in the thread where it always has.... I am still trying to understand the mechanics but it is still very vague. How does it get from your the app on your web page to the CGC PL LIST Forum? Do people actually go to your web page to access the editing aspects of the list? Does it then generate a new HTML list the updater copy/pastes to the PL LIST forum on the boards? Again, it would be extremely helpful if you could explain the actual topography/mechanics and step through the actual process of updating the PL and what happens after it is updated. There are other possible issues with taking a piece of the PL List off the boards, such as security and longevity. But I cannot ask the questions without having a clear picture of the process. Sorry partner, I've put about as much in this as I'm going to without an understanding of what the forum wants. I'm certainly not building a use case and a wire frame, which is what it looks like you're wanting, for a PL list on a message board. I am not seeking a use case and a wire frame. I am simply trying to understand what you are talking about. Arch may be interested in a use case and wire frame, especially if it is a process that is going to happen, at least in part, off-board. You proposed this idea but seem to be reluctant to describe even the most basic "use case". And I mean BASIC. You have to have some idea in your head about what you were proposing and how people here were going to use it. Forget about colors and formatting and tables and whether to include nominees and links to discussions etc. That is content and should not impact the basic concept. Asteroid, you had an idea. It may be the best thing to happen to the PL. I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out in the most simple way how you envision it working. Again, the content is not the issue. Having or not having various fields is not going to impact the process itself. So in a simple way, so non-computer folks can understand it, what do you envision as the basic idea? It could be as simple as: 1) The app itself is located here (name the place - your server? The boards as an html doc?) 2) Someone runs the app and fills in whatever fields are decided on 3) HTML code is generated 4) What happens to the HTML code generated? Again, in the most basic way. You could just say the person copy/pastes the code into the PL List forum and changes the Markup to HTML or whatever. But I really think that before content is decided on the basic process you envision should be understood. It was your idea after all. I explained it in basic terms.

  6. The intent wasn't to make people edit the HTML. I posted earlier, but it may not have been clear. If this is something the community wants and everyone can agree on the format, I would just put together a web page where you could add a line, delete a line or edit a line from either list and click a button to generate the HTML that would be copied and pasted in the HOS/PL page. The code could auto stamp what was done at the top (who was added/changed etc.) so there wouldn't be a need to quote the prior list. You would have to quote in HTML if you wanted to quote it, to get it to show correctly. You would lose the formatting of the UBB code. Your guys call, I'll watch for what the group decides.
  7. There's a one column version and two. I updated the links to open in a new window and went with blue instead of pink for Rupp. Once we lock in on a format, I'll put something together where someone could 1) enter the name and link in a form or 2) update something that was already there and 3) it would spit out the code that would be copied and pasted into the PL thread. Should be pretty quick to update the thread if I put something like that together, maybe a couple of mins?

  10. Cool, I'm going to put the actual list and repost here. Give folks another chance to react to it. See above. This is just the HOS list, but the probation list could be built out right below it. The links in the HOS should be correct. Anyone have any thoughts?

  15. I don't disagree that there is s limit to holding a seller responsible. I was reading from the phone and thought the buyer had messaged him earlier and just had not rec'd a response because the one message from the seller questioned why would he respond to a message that was a year and a half old. It was my error on that one, but still think the guy belongs on the HOS.
  16. This person has a track record it seems. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5888981&fpart=1 He recently sent me a PM stating When I countered that I paid him $400. for the book and it sold at auction for $73, and I believed he should pay the difference, he replied I am at a loss here. What is reasonable compensation for an undisclosed trimmed book? I want to add him to the probation list, but I want to have a reasonable way for him to get off, if he chooses to do the right thing. I think that based on everything I've read (the FF #1, the other "hijacked" accounts, Nicks missing books, and this one, the PL should be skipped and this guy should go right to the HOS. Anyone disagree?
  17. That sucks. I did 15 books onsite and only 1 came back with the defect. Double check. I just cracked a recent sub that I had originally thought didn't have an indent and found it to just have the defect in a much larger pattern. Instead of the baseball sized indent, this one had an indent that stretched almost to the edges. I've not removed the plastic case, so I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.
  18. There are over 2,500 on the census. I would bet there are at least 5 times that raw and that may be way too conservative. There are probably only a couple hundred that are high grade. Currently only 57 in VF/NM or better on the census, but I could see that number jumping to 200+ if private collections were known.
  19. For a lower grade copy, that's got incredible colors. Is the title that red in hand?
  20. Labels wrong, but had this one graded a few weeks ago. Seems to be the hardest to find of the X-Men 35 centers in high grade. Only a single 9.2 and single 9.4 are higher.
  21. That is a great looking 9.0 based on the FC. What is keeping it down? Very light dust shadow, the spine tics and some NCB's. Book looks like a 9.2 with a CPR, but I'm probably going to leave as is, since its a personal book. Don't want to risk the WP.
  22. Nice copy. I really like this book, white pages to boot ! Congrats. Thanks Bob, two books away from 1-10 in VF/NM or better with WP!
