Which is totally valid, and probably a very wide consensus. Which is why, at a bare minimum, the story needs to start with him. And if it ends with him, that's fine too.

I'm not optimistic. I get that Venom is great as a standalone character, but only after enough character development which he can only achieve by playing off Spidey. Besides, it's the perfect character to try to develop overtime since three different characters have taken on the mantle. Introduce Eddie Brock as a Spidey villain with the focus being the symbiote backstory, then after a few years of whichever actor they pick in the role, have Mac Gargan take the symbiote (and with any luck, he will already have been playing the Scorpion). Then, finally, after a few more years, bring in a new actor to play Flash Thompson's version. Why rush into any specific version? Let the story play out over time.

I'm very excited. Since Doctor Who is off until 2017 and I never got into Agent Carter, it's the only show I'm following weekly.

That's a lot of actors. The writer makes the point that AoS features mostly government agents - that's not true anymore! Any of the Inhumans would be perfect to join the fray.
