I was chatting with someone about this the other day.
The 1980's series was racy for its time as remember Richard Chamberlain gets urinated on to embarrassing him and a farmer has his head lopped off. Which was shocking for general audiences of the time
But this newer series is able to get more intense. And it will have 10 episodes to dig deeper into the events of the time.
We know Japaneses being racists (not all of them) for a long time. I was still in my high school year and was shocked about that brazen behaviors and eventually my life went into late 80's and early 90's, they still showed racism. I dated few Japanese women. They were hoping to be chosen by me but I chose not. I chose an American gal. They were crying. Two of them got married to the foreigners (Australian and British) and one stayed single (passing away in the mountain). I understood deeply about their culture even today. Still feel bad for them being stressed in their native land. I would see them freely outside Japan.
The original Shogun showed cruelty even I own Lone Wolf and Cub books but I heard the new Shogun showed more authentic about their culture and way of warrior's life.
I decided to watch the old TV movie first before the new show.

How do you compare first Shogun on TV mini series (Richard Chamberlain starring) and new Shogun?
I never watched first Shogun fully but I watched first three parts. I know it's a long story and 5 days of TV show (it's funny that I never saw either Roots and Thorn Birds fully).

Thank you so much... really appreciate it! Nice to make the Wisconsin connection, but no, I'm from New York. I'm not sure how I found Westfield to be honest. I remember being in a panic to keep my comic runs going after my local comic shop closed down. There was no internet to research from back then, so my guess is I found them from a comic book ad. Funny you mention that they're still in business. When I was writing my opening post for this thread, I actually did think to go see if they were still around and I was glad to see that they were... I guess they didn't suffer too much from losing me as a customer! I hadn't thought about reaching out to them but that's a good idea. I'll definitely do that. They should be happy that I'm giving them all this free publicity!
Happy accident!
Just curious. Can you tell us what is your breakdown? How many books have you submitted? How many books were returned with 9.8?
I am sure that Westfield Comics did a superb job on packing the books.

It's always fantastic to watch your time capsules.
I realized your former subscription came from Middletown near Madison Wisconsin, not far from my uncle and aunt who residue in Middletown. My parents live in Burlington - about two hours away. Are you living in Wisconsin?
I checked Westfield Comics website. They are still in business. Have you informed them about your recent graded comic books? I am sure they will be excited to hear about this.
-
I go for the cheaper way.
Put them in the new bags and boards and put them inside the long/short boxes in the dry/dark closets. I don't do the displays.

@Kortoga I almost forgot and was so rude to you.

I am an electrical engineer and helped many years ago to develop what is now Mame, open source, and everywhere now. We burned the old arcade roms and dug into the logical programs to build the software to emulate those systems, each system had its own way of working with each manufacture's rom chips. They were kind of the same, but as always, companies like to make things proprietary. It was a process and there were a lot of us working through email because we did not have forums like there are today. We had news groups. That was a very long time ago. I have done a lot more different things since then. I use this avatar sometimes because it reminds me of those years. No I am not invading,
I know. CGC is still afraid of the spammers. Don't worry. I find it amusing and it's fantastic that you had worked with those old arcade video machines.

This avatar reminds of the Space Invaders.
CGC may be feared of being invaded so they have to protect themselves. You are only 12 hours old since you joined CGC forum.

Interesting... I really need to get a GPA account because I don't see that sale anywhere else. Thanks for the info!
I'm thinking about doing just that. I've had one inquiry so far and I sent him my asking price. We'll see if he accepts. If he doesn't I'll probably just put it on Mycomic shop. I already have a copy of the direct edition for the P.C. Thanks for the feedback fellas!
GoCollect too.
Consignment with MCS.

It was a great time of life. Nine years - got to most western states and Alaska. 226 jumps, 108 on fires, I think.
Rocks, trees, stumps, cactus, wind. Luckily, I think I got out with the only injuries (that I know of so far) being a concussion (mild?) and a little barking in my right knee, which I can keep at bay through light exercise.
As far as the comic book covers with parachutes go, it is always fun to spot the stuff that defies the laws of physics. And a lot of the artists didn't have much concept of what they were drawing.
226 jumps!!! You should be the skydiving instructor easily.
That's too bad you are not the artist. Just amazing!

Sorry - it's a watercolor of the Rhodesian Paradak. It was a watercolor that was shown in Soldier of Fortune Magazine ages ago. "Fireforce External" by John Hopkins, who does a lot of war watercolors. As you can imagine, trying to google "John Hopkins" is a nightmare. Finally found it at a London Auction house online with about three minutes left, and of course, put in my bid.
I was always intrigued by the painting because I was a smokejumper for nine years, parachuting into mountainous, rocky, rough terrain to put out forest fires. Add in people shooting at you, and you get the picture.
I bet you missed the real adventure life. That’s explained why you collected the comic books with the parachute cover.
it’s kinda cool that you jumped out and fought fires.

Looked at MCS website. They offer more money on the book with Travelers in the Twilight Zone than the book with the ad. I never saw the book with the ad on the back cover before.
