    ?? - All 3 scans are 9.8

I know the replacement book was likely not a "true" 9.8, but it was in a 9.8 holder when it was reholdered for a 2nd time.

But, Nick already nailed it - it was likely resubbed the 2nd time by the dupped buyer, which explains it.

The first time that cert was swapped and custom labeled, I don't think it even left his possession. Shill bid, then swapped out that book for a lower grade, get the next custom label, then sold to a sucker. A $ bump each time.

    1. Direct 9.8 slab to news stand 9.8 slab, latter worth more.

    2. swap out to lower grade book and put into 9.8 news stand slab

Has anyone here returned a slab from the list and been compensated for a tampered book?

precodemonster on insta has a tampered asm 238 that he sent in. Looks like still waiting for compensation.

Agree with Shadroch on this one.  That big spine tick will probably hold this one back to around a 7-7.5.  $100 extra for a graded 8.5 is easy money..

mycomicshop has a CGC 8.5 for $1100.   I'd go for that before the one in the photo.

Thanks. That is also in Canadian dollars which is $744 usd. That spine tick is pretty big.

  4. It's not mine yet but my LCS has this raw copy. Any opinions based on just the front cover? Corners are not rounded or worn. Weird looking top left is glare. Plastic wrap at the bottom of the plastic holder. Big spine tick/crease by nefaria's head a big ding against good grade? Locally I have a few options, slabs ranging from 6.5 to 8.5 in addition to this one.

It sounds like the same thing that Comiclink reported about that he said that he looked at scans, and determined no swap had happened, and Avengers 57 was cleared.

Maybe heritage got the same clearance based on sales history and looking at scans.

CGC should at least make that clear in their holder review FAQ. Anything that was verified good by auction house gets cert A (same as original cert), those that are mailed in and verified good get cert B, new cert?

It does appear something has changed in their plan. This book which is struck through and has a new grade date is available on Heritage for sale. If the book has been cleared based on what CGC originally outlined it should have a new certification number and if not cleared should be in their hands as evidence based on the comments Matt Nelson provided in the recent discussion with West Davengers and 9.9 Newsstand.

yeah. That isn't following what their protocol is. That book should have a new cert. Also would have expected that book to have an image.

First, It's not like the guy was sending already opened cases (I hope!) so opening and resealing has been confirmed by CGC. Secondly, we know these books were reholdered and there was no inside man (according to Matt) so it's also confirmed by CGC that they were opened and resealed in a way that CGC employees couldn't (or simply didn't) detect. So the only possible ambiguity is whether this guy also passed resealed slabs to buyers directly. I guess you have to decide that for yourself but why he would have any qualms about that lower-risk avenue I can't imagine.

I get the sense they are not being resealed after the swap. He's likely sending them back as damaged and because they are damaged, getting new slab and this happens via custom label avenue

Here is why I keep harping on this point.  I went through the Hot 350 list and found a ton of "holes" - individual cert numbers missing from a single submission batch.  For example, say cert numbers xxx001, xxx003, xxx004 are on the list but xxx002 is not.  I used the census to fill the holes and this is what I came up with: 215 more books

The highlighted column shows the number of books I added (N meaning not on the initial Hot 350 list).

    Some highlights

    • 1 more ASM 129
    • 25 more ASM 194's
    • 11 more ASM 252's
    • 39 more ASM 300's
    • 3 more Hulk 181's
    • 4 more Hulk 340's
    • 8 more X-Men 266's, including 1 with MJ

We need some clarity on why some books are NOT on the list.  Take ASM 300 for example: why were 86 9.8's on the list but 14 weren't?  What is different about the 14?  How do we know these 14 are "safe" and guaranteed not fraudulent?  There were 3 FF 48's on the list and 3 not on the list; is CGC 100% certain those 3 are OK?  How can you tell?

@CGC Mike, please ask to release the criteria used to generate the list of 350 and/or release his entire submission history. Better to be safe and recheck everything this guy touched.

    certs expanded.png

Did you restrict to submissions that had multiples on the list? For example, these are likely not his submissions:

    2102881xxx
    2105812xxx
    2120143xxx
    3694212xxx

He likely just bought these 9.8s to get the 9.8 slab and label to do the swapping.

As opposed to these examples, which show up multiple times, which he likely submitted:

    3743694xxx
    3752510xxx
    3786339xxx

  9. Looking into getting an entry level 94 and maybe GSXM1. Not sure how much I want to spend but looking at some ebay and mycomicshop sales, it looks like the price gap between some grades is rather small and then jumps. For example:

    X-men 94

    8.0 $990

    $200 jump

    8.5 $1100

    $600 jump

    9.0 $1700

    $700 jump

    9.2 $2400

I guess the jumps in price has to do with the census and # available? But looking here, the jumps look a little different. Don't have an account so can only see a few FMV

    https://gocollect.com/comic/x-men-94

    gocollect says 8.0 to 9.0 is $200 jump and 9.0 to 9.2 is $1000

they have a lot of social media accounts and they like reposting. The oldest one is from one of their IG accounts 6/6/18.

If you're on insta, just search the hashtag comicbookunderground and you'll find at least 2 accounts that share a lot of images.Shop looks like it's near Nassau metro station.

It looks like that shop has done some CGCs signature series stuff. Is it possible it's all legit and they have the heatgun and cutter to open up slabs and inner wells to get existing books out that are going for signatures?
