  1. One more suspense 3 comment. If it was never in the photo journal, or had just a standard small space in the PJ, the crippen copy would be lucky to pull 10k. Believe it.
  2. thanks for agreeing with me, even if it was only between the lines
  3. That's why I added the phrase ( IMO ) I was speaking for myself. I'm sure some others would prefer Schomburg war covers....I like this one the best.....(and based on the $47,000 sales price of this book, I am confident I am not alone ) I don't need you to state "IMO" for me to be able to infer that's its your opinion. That's obvious. Just like its my opinion that without the perfect storm of extreme rarity, being produced without staples, being part of a title that has classic lb cole covers, and being prominently featured in the photo journal, this cover is one big SPOON as far as schomburgs go. Perception would change in a hurry if you took away all the things that go with the book and people just focussed on the book itself
  4. Bah humbug - it's not even the best cover in its own title. Most of the lb cole covers, esp 8 and 11, are better. I just really don't know where you guys are coming from I think the cachet of this book being rare and being featured full-page in the photo-journal has led to some ascribing to it artistic greatness which simply isn't there in the work itself Take that cover, put it on another title, and take away the extreme rarity. What are you left with? An also-ran schomburg cover worth maybe $1k not $47k that no one would particularly care about.
  5. it is not in my top 300 let alone top 3. No offense but I think you've read one too many auction catalogs There are many Schomburg works that are far superior. If it wasn't for: - the rarity - the fact that its part of a run that includes killer lb cole covers - and most of all, its prominent place in the photo journal few would give a SPOON about this cover. It's just not that great a cover. Far, far, far from his best.
  6. That may be, but try finding an unrestored Suspense 3 in 8.0. I don't care if you take restoration and grade into account, the Suspense is still the rarer book I think. I'd rather have the supes too, ugly foxing and all, but a suspense 3 in 8.0 is not a book you see every day - I think you're underselling the rarity of the suspense. There's a reason it went for 50 grand even as a so-so (there, I said it) Schomburg cover.
  7. How so? I was under the impression there are like, twenty or so Suspense 3's with most of them missing a page. I may be way off but that's what I recall reading. I'd be surprised if the supes was the rarer book, ESPECIALLY adjusted for condition.
  8. It's really interesting that that's the current story, because when I was in Colorado, I had heard they all went to one collector to help finance the deal. I wonder if there's any truth to that and the owner and Chuck have a pact of silence. Conspiracy theory. Hmm... interesting..
  9. Too bad the mile high ducks were likely destroyed
  10. I never liked kid books. I'd take the adventure 48 all day long as well. Hourman is actually a pretty damn cool hero IMO
  11. That's what we've all been saying all along..
  12. Yeah, but yours isn't "in the marketplace" now is it? Long time collection books like that no one is saying have been tampered. I made the comment because the subby 3 was sold through heritage (see ad nauseum threads) and thus out of a long term collection and possibly into 'manipulative' hands. Beautiful book, btw
  13. You know what the funny part is? I posted the comment about the Subby 3 being 'probably' cleaned and pressed as a flippant comment with ZERO knowledge about that particular book only because it seems like every freaking book around is being worked on these days. Ironic (if not surprising) that it was in fact upgraded from 9.0 to a 9.6. The chicagos may not have had work on them when they first came to market but don't kid yourself - nothing is immune. If there is money to be made on a book that's in the market, someone will manipulate. That's just the way the game is being played these days - look around - there are ample threads to prove it. Have fun and remember to send Filter that grand
  14. Point is... there are no guarantees. Doesn't matter what pedigree. If there is money to be made, someone will manipulate the book. and Tec 27, much as I like the Marvel.
  15. Now its my turn to not be sure if filter is kidding or not, but one thing is for sure - a pedigree designation hardly guarantees it is untouched.
  16. subby 3. Lots of Everett art in that issue and unrestored to boot. EDIT - m, not sure after seeing the restoration on the tec35 is only a clean and press. The subby 3 is probably cleaned and pressed too At the same dollar level I'd take the subby almost every time.. but in this case the purple level might have depressed the price too much. I guess I'd take the tec 35 in this case too, but I love the subby.
  17. I'd take the AF15 because robin sucks arse... (on his lucky days). If it were pretty much any other low # tec allentown w/ a batman cover it would be a different story.
  18. I also think this is the hardest one ever. Adventure 40 by a hair.
  19. I like it... I'm sure it was unintentional but it almost looks like dual perspectives
  20. if it isn't a crease then you might get a pretty good grade out of it
  21. I would take the sup 2 - it just looks so damn fresh. And definitely the more fun.
