  1. GUARDIAN COMICS is giving this show a whirl, as it really is the best one day show in this country.  We will have a brand new collection of nine long boxes of $1.00 books that we’ve never brought to a show before and expect a complete sell out by the end of the day.  It’s really that amazing a collection of books.  Merry Christmas to everybody, and I look forward to seeing everybody on Wednesday.

  2. I haven't posted here since all my comics were stolen from my home and then my shop four days later in late September, but after seeing this disaster this evening, this is the first place I came running.

Like many here, SW was my childhood and the prequels did not live up to 16 years of expectations but at least I can look at them fondly.  Palme was a memorable character, Qui Gonn and Darth Maul were memorable characters.  The movies still had a little bit of heart, and were still Star Wars, there was no mistaking that.  Whatever I just finished watching was not that.  I know Luke and Leia like my brother and sister, but these were not my family.  The story was slooowww, and not very good at all.  There is no heart left at all.

And for those people who say that no movies can ever live up to what you hold so dear from ones childhood, I beg to differ.  To me the OT trilogy was everything, but when Winter Soldier, Avengers 2 And Civil War came out, they became my adulthood holy trilogy that if someone asked me which three movies I’m taking on a deserted island, I’m still not sure which I would choose.

There is only one Cinematic War that matters anymore...and it’s of the Infinity not the Star.

It is with heavy heart that I write that last sentence.

  3. Well after missing the last one due to the fact that I had every comic of any importance I owned stolen from me, I will be back this weekend with a vengeance.  Just not my usual kind of inventory.  I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle again, and I think Rob's show will help give me the motivation I need.  Hope to see everybody there. :wishluck:

In terms of prices compared to 90 day GPA would people say it was a strong first day or weak one?  I glanced at some of the ASM 9.8s but lost interest fairly quickly.

Of the three books I was paying attention to, two seemed awful strong, a 'Tec #85 and a 'Tec #91.  I'm wondering how the CC auctions might have effected sales as well.  For example.  At 8:00 a Bats #181 9.0 W goes off and ends at $4,000, last sale being $1800 and the GPA high is $1875 (both sales in 2016) but at 10:10 on CL a Bats #181 9.4 W ends at $6700, with the last sale and GPA high being $6450.  So one is an abberation, just not sure which one hm

:baiting:Need more info! Is that a "good cry" or a "bad cry"? haha

She came looking for some books for her son who lives in Alberta, and had a list of three books she was looking for, we had two of them.  She said we were the first dealers that she had stopped at and wanted to look around.  I told her that wasn't going to be a problem and encouraged it.  I said to her that I was going to put the two books aside and if she couldn't find them anywhere else she knew exactly where they were going to be and that they wouldn't be sold.  About an hour or so later, she comes back and says that she would like to take them and not only were they the best priced, but that we were the nicest, kindest comic dealers that she had met and have ever encountered over her years of coming to FE.  Immediately I start crying and had to turn away and clean myself up before I could finish the sale.  Eric from the other side of the table was laughing his azz off at the softiness that is me.

    Phew it's over!

It was a good long week(end).  I know Jim's ( @Guardian Comics ) has been posting a bunch of updates about our booth so let's do a small mini recap, cause most of our time was either spent on the road driving in/out or behind the booth.

We met with a number of regular customers and a ton of new ones.  You guys and your kind words make it worth what we do.  Without tooting our own horn we had many individuals come by and say we had the best books (really that means little to me cause everyone has different tastes), but the best things we heard several times over was how awesome we were to deal with.  We had someone looking for a book but couldn't find it in the bin (I knew we had it)...he left the booth a bit disappointed but we found it shortly there after.  Jim tracked him down in the convention centre (how I'm not too sure).  Guy bought it and was super happy we would chase him down.

    Highlight sales would have been:
DD1, Avengers1, Saga 1, NM98 (every copy we had and could have kept selling, if we had them), ASM 300 triple signed, ASM361.  We also have a few guys that want to meet this week about picking up some bigger books they didn't expect to see at the show ;)

Move in was smooth as we did it thursday morning (after all the big guys have already cleared out).  Move out Sunday evening was a cluster.  I spent over 1hr45 min in the van waiting to get into the loading bay due to all the traffic.  Once in my crew moved their cabooses off and we were in and out!

    Rebooked for next year.

The lady that made me cry has to be the highlight of the weekend. :cloud9:

well if I had a 6.0 modern I wouldnt be happy with the grade but if I had a 6.0 GA I would be very happy with the grade is all I'm sayin.

But a person who collects high grade GA wouldn't be happy with a 6.0, unless it doesn't exist in a grade higher.  So it still doesn't make it high grade, just the highest grade known to exist.

And off to bed as I made my own head just spin.

What era are you collecting?  If you're collecting modern, a 9.4 would be considered low grade.  If you're collecting golden age books, a 6.0 would be considered high grade.

    Ummmm....no.

Grade doesn't fluctuate on the era.

A 6.0 in any era will always be a mid grade book.

It is interesting that this thread got more looks and significantly more posts than the 2017 SDCC thread did. That alone speaks to how much love there is for this show among the CGC boards.

I was thinking the same thing.  It's been a couple of days since the show ended and it's still an active and viable thread.  Like Bob said what makes this show so special is it so centralized, not only the middle of your country with the airport hub of all airport hubs but the Hyatt, Embassy Suites, Doubletree, everybody is within a five minute walk of each other.

Booth 1004 is where the books you need to buy are going to be

ERComics & @Guardian Comics are pleased to announce we will have one of the best silver age wall displays.  We'll have almost EVERY major marvel & DC first appearance (ASM1, AF15, X-men1, AV1, SC4/22, BB28 and many more!), I think 4 hulk 181's and a whack of other keys.

Along with the super amount of super key books there will also be about 14 long boxes of mylared up fun silver-copper run books including minor keys.  More than 2000+ $2 books and hundreds of mini sets/runs.

Make sure to stop by and say Hi!

Sounds like a Dynamic Duo lost their minds in Chicago and did some heavy duty buying.  Three more days to see if it was worth it. :wishluck:

After talking to some dealers and one person tuned into the goings-on, most comic dealers had a good or very good show. It was the non-comic dealers (t-shirts, toys, swords, etc) that had a rough con. Some of Wizard's decisions for this convention need a serious rethinking

I'm not going to be a WW apologist, but it's still a great show that I came back with my largest haul ever.  It's my favourite show of the year, and I want it to be the strongest but Is something missing/different from five years ago?  Absolutely.  I hope they can get it figured out.

Bob may know more but I thought is was all done during the manufacturing phase. The dullish blades left certain levels of chipping (pre chipping or cracking, a little chipping, a lot of chipping, etc). I guess it would depend on the quality of the blade at the time of the slicing & dicing.

I know that it is because of the blades, but I can't imagine a chipped book looked like that on the newsstands and must have eroded over time, no?
