  1. I have listened to the first part with Halperin but haven’t finished the latter half. I have enjoyed the podcast so far and appreciate Jim’s transparency and willingness to address Felix’s questions on a variety of topics. I haven’t won an auction since before the shilling fiasco broke loose. Maybe I was naïve, maybe I was just in my bliss as I chased art and didn’t want to think about how auctions are set up. I have watched several auctions since the news broke but just can’t get myself to hit the bid button. I was impressed by how Jim handled the question so I found myself considering HA for another purchase but I certainly won’t ever place an early bid again as I don’t like the possibility for shenanigans – why would I open myself up to that possibility?
  2. I totally agree - Mike's pencil only pages are beautiful and it is really hard to tell that there is no ink on the page even when looking at them in person as I have several myself and always looking for more!
  3. . Newest edition to my themed collection of Bob Larkin Hulk poster homage pieces. This one by Dave Aikins. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1413861 http://art.cafimg.com/images/Category_14768/subcat_132359/tDOLb4dQ_0908170958371gpadd.jpg .
  4. Interesting. I love your diligence in screening the list. Invariably, someone will find a way - it's the nature of the hobby (anywhere really when it comes to money/profit) so I don't think any system will ever be perfect - all you can do is your best - kudos. Question - did you contact the disingenuous buyer once you found out about the flip? I'd be curious to hear some stories about how these people respond when caught.
  5. In this case the inks are the only available artwork, agreed. I am not a fan of this but I understand the concept and I could see myself buying one of these if it spoke to me enough and the price was right. If I were to buy, I would ask for a print out of the "pencils" and have both together in a portfolio as reference.
  6. Well, for art listed for sale I would agree but that’s not really the discussion (at least in my eyes). This is about a buyer trying to obtain art not for sale – I suppose it could also be for someone trying to get a heavy discount on art for sale using the “true’fan” angle with the intent to flip all along. I haven’t sold any art so I can’t really speak from that side of the equation. As a buyer, I have had people sell art to me that is less than they would likely get in the open market. These are good friends and ones that I have likely helped in some way as well. In these cases, I would not even consider flipping or even selling at all.
  7. Greg – I am the real deal if you ever decide to move the Sal art brother! This is the type of story that is really frustrating as a collector. It reminds me of Adam Hughes throwing up his hands after he got conned into a piece for a “fan” that showed up on eBay almost immediately. The part that really stinks is that the true collectors suffer. Anyone have success in weeding out the true inquiries vs the fake-fan that is just trying to buy low and sell higher?
  8. Nice piece even if never published - great art from a great story. Congrats!
  9. Wow, that is some great packaging! I am always very appreciative when someone goes the extra mile to make sure the art has no change of damage. Thanks for sharing!
  10. I think it os probably a common chord that plays out amongst most here, it certainly does for me. Congrats - great looking artwork!
  11. Fun thread. Without much thought I would have to go with a Kirby Hulk vs a horde of Kirby monsters on the largest sized paper I could find. Living would have to be McFarlane Hulk vs Spidey (non powered up) or one of the insane Art Adams pieces with the Hulk vs the Marvel Universe
  12. Not sure what to take form this thread, maybe that Michelangelo created photographs. I do know that I would love to get my hands on a nice Hitch Ultimates page with the Hulk! If anyone has one for a low hundreds asking price, send me a DM!
  13. I knew there had to be more the story!
  14. I will second this request - let's hear the backstory of the search for the grail
  15. I don't have any desire to add input to call out artists that may not be putting out the same quality as once before - pretty subjective and likely leads to bashing IMO. I would like to add that I don't feel the cover above is indicative at all the Nowlan is not trying.
  16. Thanks Jay, I very much appreciate the lead and link. You're right about the price point being tough to swallow and, in addition, the animated film doesn't hold the sway with me that the comic story does. Again, thanks Jay!
  17. Added a great (at least IMHO) Sal Buscema Hulk page to my collection Enjoy! http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1411076 http://art.cafimg.com/images/Category_14768/subcat_116684/6Q0Lv9LJ_2807171056291gpadd.jpg
  18. Ideas on why the top was trimmed? I wouldn't have even considered that. As for the comparison and my preference - this is new water for me as I have never owned a piece that needed work. I think I would have preferred to explore overlay options - really anything that would not have permanently adhered new pieces to the paper. I don't really know all the options here but the idea of permanently adding to the paer makes me cringe a bit.
  19. Thank you and I couldn't agree more, Phil is way underrated indeed. His commission process was really easy (super nice guy and very quick/responsive) and pricing was very affordable -> I would highly recommend a commission if anyone is considering. And yes, this is based off the well known Hulk poster from the 80's which was green (although Tim Sale's take looks to be his Gray Hulk from the mini series he did).
  20. I was really happy to see Phil announced at my LCS for their Not at Comic Con event. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1410882
  21. Another Sal Buscema page landed this week. This one was from a CGC member - thanks Brian! Any leads on Sal's Hulk art are appreciated. Any discussion regarding Sal's Hulk art encouraged. Any information regarding Hulk 227 art would be awesome! Thanks in advance! -Dave
  22. Thanks Andy. I seem to recall the cover and DPS popping up in the last few years but they have vanished. I will chase down that lead and see where it goes. For clarity, I am interested in the pages above, but I would also be interested in any pages from the story arc, including panels, etc.
  23. I almost used the mic drop but it felt more like an intro than an exit. Talk about an epic into on CAF!
  24. I would be interested in learning any info from the story arc where Wolverine flashes back in his memory to the initial meeting with the Hulk. The story was in the Wolverine Origins series, issues 28-29. Here are a couple pages as examples of what I am looking for. Thanks!
