  1. I've never been a fan of the bikini armor. It's just so cheesecake. I personally would be much more likely to buy the series and take the character seriously if she were wearing something else. That may be in part because I was first introduced to her during her mid-80's blue shirt phase, I'm not sure. But I prefer her original chainmail shirt to the bikini and I'm sure someone could come up with another design I liked even more.
  2. A friend of mine is a huge Amanda Conner fan, he has a daughter with the same name. He always talks with her at cons. I wonder if the artists care if they are 1 of 7 covers ? May be work is work ? If you read the article about the Red Sonja reboot it said female artist were sending in images without even being asked. So they should have covers for a while. At least until the novelty wears off. If the stories don't appeal, or people have no interest, then what can you do? Dynamite isn't under the same sales pressure as the big 2. Hopefully they give it a chance to grow, and develop a new fan base without alienating the existing one.
  3. It is reminiscent of his #16, #17, and #18 Red Sonja run. Subconsciously, it may be why I like it so much more than the others.
  4. That's nothing. Wait 'til you see this. Hope you're sitting down.
  5. They're not even showing the Stephanie Buscema cover. That usually means it will be the hardest one to get.
  6. Looks like a mid/low grade copy? I was talking about the Red Sonja picture in Conan #61 compared to the image of her in Conan #33. Neither book is on the list of Red Sonja appearances because she's not really part of the story line in those issues. Gyro and myself tend to disagree on this matter. Also, CGC graded copies don't list an appearance by her either. In issue #33 there is one small image of her as a flashback from #24. The #61 image is much larger, and nicer, but she's still not part of the story line like she is in #23, #24, #43, #44, #48, etc. Graded copies of these do list a Red Sonja appearance. The sweetness I was referring to was the fact that Gyro found a Pence copy (which he digs) of Conan #61, and the 30 cent price variant that I posted is even rarer. The condition had nothing to do with the post. Just the cool factor of the price variants for the same issue. I thought it was funny that someone actually bought the 30 cent copy on eBay right after I posted the pic whatever the grade was, they wanted it pretty bad.
  7. Wow! That did not last long at all. Okay, who bought it, and did you tell the seller they owe me a commission?
  8. That's much nicer than the piddly little pic of her in #33. That pence is sweet, but look at this bad boy!
  9. Sort of. There's a giant two-page double splash where Conan is thinking about all the women he's met over the course of his adventures. Red Sonja is among them. She basically has a half-page pinup here by the great John Buscema. She's not in the story, though, just in this one flashback page. Sounds like your issue #33, Gyro.
  10. Lucio Parrillo has done quite a few covers for Dynamite, and I like the fact that they're painted covers. His Red Sonja: Revenge of the Gods covers were really nice. As are his Queen Sonja covers.I have nothing against Fiona Staples. She's a great artist, and her style is unique. I just don't think this is her best work. Here's another Red Sonja she did which I prefer to the one they're using.
  11. That's what I'm saying. How can they justify ending with these amazing Lucio Parrillo covers, and start over with artwork that doesn't even come close.
  12. I don't think it looks horrible, I think it's cool. It also looks digital to me, but that's just a guess. Well, the point of the discussion was about comparing the existing artwork to what's coming in the reboot. Joe Jusko's #50 cover is by far one of the best Red Sonja covers ever. I mean c'mon, just look at it. The Fiona Staples cover isn't the worst Red Sonja image, but for something as significant as starting over at #1, I don't feel it's worthy. Especially when you compare it to the Jusko #50 or the remaining Parrillo covers for #76- #80. So stand alone, it's alright (I guess), but compared to some of the amazing artwork that has carried Red Sonja to this point, it seems a bit disappointing to me. I like the Amanda Conner cover, and even the cartoonish Stephanie Buscema cover is not without a certain charm. It's just that if they're going to pull a stunt like this, Dynamite will have to go big, or go home. I mean that Staples cover pales in comparison to the Art Adams, Michael Turner, and Joe Linsner covers for the previous Red Sonja #1. Not every cover will be a masterpiece, but for something like this, they should have aimed much higher.
  13. Kinda looks like watercolor, but geez, that's one horrible image compared to this.
  14. Thanks very much. That is some spectacular art indeed on those Red Sonja covers. I may have to start picking up this series. I believe these are to be the last covers of the series. They're going to start over at #1 with Gail Simone writing and covers to be done by all female artist starting in July, I think. You can read more about it here. http://comicsbeat.com/gail-simone-on-red-sonja-for-dynamite-interview/
  15. First let me wipe the drool off my chin. Some great covers you got there, and you're right, they don't come around at all. Especially graded ones. Kinda like the Brunner #19 gold foil cover. I never see that one either. Almost easier to buy the original art for it (it was for sale a while back) . He called us "avid collectors". More like raving lunatics. Welcome to the fray! If it's even remotely Red Sonja related, feel free to post away! Hey, that rhymes.
  16. Not sure if it's ending at #80 or not. If it is, at least they had respect enough to end it with some great covers. The last twenty or so have been pretty lame. The #80 reminds me of Marvel's #10 for some reason. Except that Red Sonja is in control on this one. Yeah, he really does some amazing artwork. So far these are the only covers with no variants. Would have been nice to see some Joe Jusko ones too.
  17. Okay, it looks like Dynamite will continue Red Sonja at least to #80 before they start over at #1. #75 has three fan choice covers, and starting with #76 Lucio Parrillo will be doing the covers up to #80. Which to me, is about the smartest thing they've done in a while. He really is one of the greatest artist around today. Here are some of the covers. Enjoy!
  18. Couple of beauties right there. Nice job!
  19. I really have no idea why they're doing this. What about the ongoing title? I think they're up to issue #74 now. Are they just going to stop at #75, and start over at #1? I mean who are they fooling? Those covers aren't too bad, but compared to the names they had on the first #1 it's almost an insult. Art Adams, Joe Linsner, Michael Turner, Alex Ross, etc. Couldn't they have at least used Mary Wilshire for a cover? Just out of respect. I understand the whole women doing a woman character thing, but let's face it, they killed the original Red Sonja in issue #34, and it's been downhill ever since. Especially the cover art. So I doubt they can do any more damage to the title. I guess I was hoping to see it go to #100, but who knows now. I do like the Amanda Conner cover though, and Gail Simone is supposed to be great. We'll see.
  20. Yeah, I don't know. I had some of the Dejah Thoris negatives, and sold them right after I got them. Actually made a few bucks. I think the problem with modern books is that they're in demand when they first come out, but once everyone that wants them gets a copy, there's all these other copies lying around. The novelty wears off, and people decide to sell. The market is then flooded with so called "rare" variants, but even if there's only 100 copies, are there 100 people willing to pay? Most of the time no. In a few rare instances a modern book can keep or even increase its value. The Ditko cover for ASM #700 or the Walking Dead for instance, but I'm guessing that bubble could burst at any moment. As for the Dynamite Red Sonja books, the only ones I've ever seen sell for decent money are the earliest RRP covers. Certainly nothing after the Ebas #16 (maybe the Brunner #19 gold foil, but those never come around to make a reference) has gone for more than $50.00 in recent times. The rare instance in which a signature series book pops up might be the only exception. They're just not hard to find, and everyone who wants one has one. Basically it comes down to desirability, supply, and demand (and condition). Look at the Golden Age Dell Tarzan books. They're old, but not too rare, and no one really wants them. Other books from the same time like Detective, Action, All Star, Marvel Mystery, Capt. America, or Planet can go for many thousands of dollars while they barely get hundreds. It's the same with Red Sonja negatives. Too few collectors desire them.
  21. Hate to say it, but some of those have been there for years.
  22. I forget what band he's in. Maybe Nine Inch Nails, but his lack of communication tells me he should stay the hell out of comics. No wonder the business failed.
