  1. My wife has given me the a choice, your comics or your cards must go before we get the car in . Some background on me, I have been a comic book collector for over 55 years, buying FF1 off the newsstand. As a young boy I also collected cards...the cool ones...Mars attacks, baseball etc and all my 1960's stuff never made it with me in a move around 1966. In the early 1980's I went back into baseball and all types of cards head first. From 1982 to say 1995 I was serious collector...over 100,000 cards. We then moved and the wife said, either no more comics or cards, you pick one, I continued to collect comic books. Now that we are buying a tesla....well I need the space to put a charger and car into the old garage. So, here lies the problem. I have not really paid any attention to the card market in the last 20 years or so. Should I sell the entire collection in one shot or possibly piece it out and where would be in your opinion the best way to go about this. If any board member would be interested please pm me.
  2. I would say, more older collectors would read the CBG, so if you are sellling to the advanced collector, it is not a bad option.
  3. When in the early 1970's I went to all the early west coast conventions, most of the older collector's 35 and UP were the golden age collectors. The older has always been the case for GA, my generation collected SA, and who knows about the others. The GA collector especially WW2 covers have been divided into new divisions of sub collecting, the key here for GA is to antisipate where the next hot sub catogory will be...before collectors realize there two values.
  4. so we will have no idea what is coming up on the comic book auction until 24 hours before the auction opens?....HA does not nor CC or CL wait until 24 hours, is there a specific reason why you are waiting till a day before?
  5. I agree this show is a question mark, but in every show I have ever attended, there were always good deals to be had, just got to look for them, sometimes behind the table in a box below and sometimes you just have to ask, however you do have to be there to look..
  6. You must be kidding, I would not force anyone to do anything they would not want to. A comic book true value price is what a buyer and seller agree to be the final price. However, if the price is is tad high and you would like to make your costs back, an offer is an offer and those conditions might make a seller to be more reasonable in terms of the ultimate price. The only result of making a offer that is not accepted is either you counter up or walk. So be it...I did not think any major GA/SA comic book dealer is going to be taken advantage of period other than making the sky-high prices of today more reasonable.
  7. with this delta thing going on, not the best timing on this show, and I agree little is known.....I am going in with a positive outlook, however I am not going to waste my time for nothing...I need more info to make a decision, however this might be the right buying opportunity if you have several out of town dealers who want to break even buying adjusting their prices to help recover their potential loss. I see or smell a real buying opportunity here. Being that my want list is so all over the place, I might just try it, even if I think is's going to bomb.. and make some low ball offers..you? ROBO
  8. I would go with the ALL-New at $400 over the other two, long term good buy
  9. apparently two bidders put a very high price ceiling on this book, after the sale, the buyer backed out, look for it to come back on and get say 7K ish
  10. unlike a gold brick, or a share of stock or cypto...there are a lot of GA/SA collectors who enjoy and have a childhood connection to comic books and some who enjoy owning a historical item from the past. Both in great story telling and art, we collect comic books because they were and are great, like a fine painting, a collectable 50's car etc. Given that, vs the pure investor, who just wants to make a profit, a true collector has a different purpose, yes if the book goes up...great but the true collector is buying the comic book for the comic book itself, whether it is a EC comic book, Cap #1 etc. So for any TCBC I hope there is some difference between buying Cap#1 and share of stock, at least on some emotional level and I for one am glad we still care.
  11. It a bold comic book market now, and Bat #1 is a great book.....
  12. In order for Goldin to make any sort of impact on the comic book auction market for a sustained period of time, their entire bidding system with 30 min wait is going to have to be changed along with lets say 300 comic lots closing at the same time....it will not result in the maximum auction result over time such as Ha or CC could have obtained. Comic books are not cards, these are not just widgets, but there is a certain comic collector buyer who is not just a widget buyer. Goldin is going to have understand this if it wants to succeed in any type of long term basis or become any type of serious challenger or competitor to CL,CC, and Ha etc. The first auction had great stuff, but how long can they continue to do so, that is the real issue here, as I look forward to having a 4th major auction house out there, its good for everyone who is a TCBC to have a 4th major venue.
  13. 50 plus years on being here, living as a TCBC thru the good and the bad times has taught me a few things along the way, still to this very day, I learn things on the board everyday, that I never knew and as long as you are open to changing your mind, opinion and entertain new trends, you can have some sort of insight into the reality of the present and possibly where in the future we might be going in our GA/SA comic book world. Thank you for your posting.
  14. The new days in the 2021 world wide GA/SA market is very exciting and fast changing, add the promise collection to the mix and 5 years from now its gonna be boring in 2026 in comparison when we look back at 2021....There are some once in a lifetime GA books that are becoming available just now, just look at that 9.8 Contact GA comic book which Gerber rates as rare coming next auction at HA...so pick your battles today, wisely, but try to trade up if you can, and if you go a little bit over on a promise book or a CC auction once in a lifetime book, you still can consign some lower material and get a cash advance to cover the difference. I cannot recall a time that my jaw drops every Signature Auction when these 300Plus promise books appear on the Ha website, check it out, if you pulse does not go up, then you must dead and do not even know it.
  15. I would second that info request..thank you
  16. I would recommend collecting the 3 issue run of 1940 Superworld comics, they are very undervalued, but in recent years have picked up interest, great covers by Paul; and great content ...you cannot go wrong...
  17. what happens is the Blue Label prices go up or sky rocket first and then the Purple follows after a number of collectors who were hoping either for a price correction or a good deal realize that they have been left in the dust price wise and then by price necessity have to switch to Purple and thus bid up the prices of those books. It is normal market reaction. There are still a few mega keys you can buy but not for long blue label, Cap#1 is the best buy out there along with Whiz 2.....but they will not be there at somewhat of a decent price forever....
  18. The next big price jump will be the purple label mega keys, especially A1/D27/Marvel 1
  19. To me the two most undervalued books, Captain America #1...which just sold for 180K at Ha so that no longer really is in the bottom two, but I still think this dollar for dollar is the best GA Key buy out there, are Marvel #1 and Whiz # 2....the Whiz origin story is amazing ...there is gonna be real price growth on any unrestored copy 5.0 and above, and Marvel #1 as time goes on will catch up to it's old status where it was the equal for A1/Sup 1...or at least price appreciate on a higher scale. AF15 3.6 M givers not only SA a boast, but GA also, when millions are spent on one comic book it reinforces all comic book collector and investment value. This sale was a win-win for everybody....agree or disagree on the best GA Key buys out there?
  20. When the SF collection hit, I was at the berkley con, when nick brought in the first batch of books. I can back up there was 3 large sales from family, it actually did not take place in SF, but just got the nickname, I have seen both, I would rank SF a tad higher than MH, just FYI my opinion in the crispness of the books, they were both felt like brand new books, amazing
  21. as I stated before this auction many times, this book was very very rare and undervalued and now 5.0 at 36K means more than myself just posting my opinion, its reality.
  22. $26,1000.00 with over 100 lots to go...what a amazing auction....should come in about 26,250,000.00
  23. he is a more a GA, mid 50;s collector, he also has a high grade ASM 1 but not a lot of SA books in general, and no FF1 or Hulk 1 and does not really sell unless he has to get something bigger and better.
