  1. Nah. After LSCC it can only suck. Concise and accurate post sir, I like it.
  2. I discovered MAD in the 80's when I found some of the old paperbacks in a second hand bookshop. I've often thought about collecting the mags, but haven't gotten round to it yet. Harley Yee had a copy of #24 at the London Con for £60 which I thought hard about buying, but I'd already spent way over my budget. regret not buying it now though. I have added to the paperbacks, and have about 20 in lower grades.
  3. I've still got my full set in high grade that I got as they came out. Not worth much, but priceless to me
  4. I'd love to see your books. Your collection is probably unique on the boards.
  5. Wow What grades are they? Unfortanetely most are in the 3.0 - 4.5 range. I recently picked up a beater AF #15 but I'm currently in negotations w/Metro to acquire a 5.0. Until I became caretaker/owner they were all raw copies. I've been in the process of having them graded. These comics will never be sold and will be inherited by family members for them to enjoy as I am now. Even at 3.5 - 4.0 grade that is still an AWESOME collection - (thumbs u Thank you. My father told me when I was younger to give up collecting baseball cards and focus on comics. He said there was more money long term with comics - how very right he was. Of the 306, 180 are golden age keys, and 126 are silver and modern. It still amazes me to this day that I can open the Overstreet Guide up and know I own 86 of the top 100 golden age books all the modern and silver age. I have been offer alot of money in the past couple of years for the collection. And everytime i say the same thing unless your my next of kin forget about it. My son who's six right now has no idea what his father and grandfather have for him. Not only is that a great collection, but so is the story behind it. It's great that you see yourself as the custodian of the collection for future generations. If you do ever find the time, I'm sure we would all love to see pics.
  6. I remember you scoring that first copy at London Con and being understandably buzzed at the good deal you got. Where did the others come from?
  7. Two questions as I missed everything; 1. What did AH do? 2. How many bloody WD1's do you have for chrissake?
  8. Even with a load of moderns included, that still looks pretty good unless I'm missing something. You'd have to see them in person though.
  9. Nice addition!, the sig line is really coming along.
  10. Good luck with the WD, let us know how it goes. New update for you Garry, not even 24 hours and hitting £300, can't see it going up to much more nice return on your investment and a quick turnaround as well. Nice work.
  11. +1 I really believe that LSCC has given the UK industry a well deserved kick to the nadgers. Wandering raound the stalls and listening to the conversations between buyers and dealers there were obviously a lot of noobs / starters asking genuine questions about starting up a collection and grading (Every time I passed Nick he was giving someone advice on what to buy). Combine that with the sudden lack of Forbidden Planet and the other usual suspects **cough-Incognito-cough** (Probably due to the self awareness that their own stock and grading would be laughed out of the water) it shows that UK collectors are now becoming more decerning and demanding of quality. With demand comes supply Well said. Incognito and Silver Acre have had it too easy for too long and have gotten away with murder. Hopefully, this fresh competition coming in offering deep inventories of properly graded, fairly priced books will put them in their place. It's up to us to support the good guys and make our fellow collectors aware of the bad ones.
  12. Nearly all the books were VF or better. Some of the early Spideys were beautiful with really rich colours. The MP 15 is a solid VF and the IF14 presents as a NM but has 2 barely visible tears, one on the fc and one on the bc so the technical grade is probably a F+ or so. It's amazing to walk into a retail shop in the UK and see books like this for sale. Rich wants to concentrate on this side of the business now as he has proved that shops can sell back issues. His inventory will likely never be as good as Nick's for instance, but it's probably the best stocked retail shop in the country. With dealers like Comicana Direct, Shops like Limited Edition and Cons like London SuperCon there probably has never been a better time for collectors of old comics in the UK.
  13. Hellooooooo, is there anybody in here? Just been to my LCS, Limited Edition Comix in Stevenage with the sole intention of buying a hundred bags and walked out with an Iron Fist 14 and Marvel Premiere 15 . He's just bought two collections from the States, the first containing an unbroken run of ASM 1-400 plus a load of other great stuff. The second which arrives this Wednesday is a huge bronze age collection. I guess I'm lucky to have a shop like this nearby but I really don't want to be spending at the moment after bankrupting myself at London SuperCon. Just goes to show that the back issue market is in much better health than some would have you believe though. Anyway, as I'm now completely broke, thought some of you might like to know about this as you might be able to pick some stuff up without the usual nightmare shipping costs from buying from the US. Not intended as spam as of no benefit to me but just thought you might like a heads up. (thumbs u
  14. Dice, I for one vote yes to your suggestion. Who wouldn't want to see that stuff? Bring it on!
  15. This makes me really want my London SS books back from CGC, but it'll be months yet But, on yours.
  16. Neatstuff is currently auctioning a HUGE lot of Pulps on Ebay, including approximate 1700 individual issues, bound copies and bedsheets. So many gorgeous covers. I must admit I'm tempted by these as I'd like to keep some and sell the rest. Just don't have the funds at present sadly.
