  1. Before I retired, I worked as the statistician for a Fortune 500 company. When I testified as an expert witness, the plaintiffs always hired the Chairman of the Statistics Department at Stanford. What we have is fitting a polynomial to nonsensical year, which provides a good fit, but provides zero predictive ability. Knock yourselves out and play statistician, just don’t take the predictive power seriously. You could fit a spline model and obtain a perfect fit.
  2. Still remember this ad. Never bought it, since I did not have $6.98 plus postage. Dreamed of awesomeness of this. This is what you got.
  3. Garry, I met you at LSCC! I remember you telling the story of the Brad Pitt “Fury” movie being filmed on your farm. Your wife was picking apples in the background while filming. You LSCC guys can really drink! My plans to attend TankFest in Dorset were canceled by the pandemic. All the best!
  4. Back when I was a wee little lad, I lived in San Francisco’s North Beach just a few blacks from the late Lawrence Ferlingetti’s City Lights bookstore. I used to buy old comic books at a nickel a piece or three comics for a dime at Ben’s Bargains on Grant Ave. The store bought old comic books for a penny each. My late older brother and I had our first taste of early silver age Marvels, finding ASM Annual 2, FF Annual 3, and Marvel Tales Annual 2. The oldest book we found was a beaten up copy of ASM 9. I remember getting jumped by three kids on my way to school outside the store and fighting them off. I didn’t back down from anybody.
  5. Visited Kayo two weeks ago. They had a fairly decent selection as usual. Decent prices can be found and prices are negotiable. Recommend calling ahead of time to ensure Maria is inside the store. Maria is usually inside packing mail orders. However, she may be out running an errand or on vacation. Kayo is easily my favorite book store in the Bay Area. Saw John Waters shopping there twice.
  6. Gyro’s first appeared with a single line in the Sport Goofy Soccermania. The nephews ask Uncle Scrooge to purchase a trophy. Being the tightwad, he gives them an old trophy not realizing it is worth one million dollars. Here is a paused frame with Gyro and his helper.
  7. Robot Man The Jose Gonzales poster was reprinted a short while ago.
  8. Here is my copy. Back cover is missing.
  9. In January 1, 1971, I was a mere fifteen year old. I personally would have purchased old issues of Playboy to study fine examples of female pulchritude. Sadly, when ordering comics by mail order, I frequently received the reply “out of stock.”
  10. Archie 1 would be the answer to questions 1 and 2. Barks books are plentiful even in high grade. Top platinum book is Yellow Kid in McFadden Flats according to 20-21 Overstreet or you can ask Beerbohm, who has been banned.
  11. Robot Man, When you post pictures of your magnificent collection, this is what I am thinking.
  12. Here is some OA from WS 19 that I bought from Romitaman. I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to peek at my phone and saw an email from Mike. Bought it on the spot. Saw this page on eBay earlier from silveracres in the UK.
  13. Purchased from Colin Turner, son of Ron Turner, who ran Last Gasp for many decades. Colin and I attended the same high school, but many decades apart. Hung a place on honor in my house for many years.
  14. Congratulations! Has one of my favorite horror stories drawn by Joe Orlando, “Midnight Mess.”
  15. Mantle's rookie card actually came out in the 1951 Bowman set. In the PSA registry, there are six PSA 9 Mantles and three PSA 10 Mantles. 1952 Topps Mantle 311 was one of the high number cards from the sixth series. As the story goes, Sy Berger and Woody Gelman could not get rid of several hundred cases of the sixth series and decided to dump them into the Atlantic Ocean. I am surprised that the king of baseball cards is not the T206 Honus Wagner.
  16. The unpainted statue is very cool. I have two of the resin ones, with one unopened. I also purchased one of the bronze statues directly from Bob Chapman of Graphitti Designs. Bob is the official tshirt vendor for SDCC. When I asked Bob, why no more Doc Savage collectibles? Bob sadly replied that they were not selling well.
  17. My thirteenth copy. Package sat for one week after arriving at the local office. Lost out on CGC 9.0 at Heritage. Did not want to pay north of five figures. Got the book thanks to Primetime, truly a knowledgeable board member.
  18. The Wolverine Moviemaker Pro will let you convert 8mm film to digital, but no sound. I have the earlier model that could only convert smaller reels.
