  1. I think I could book a trip to Florida from NY, given the current situation, for about $1.33.
  2. Do you ever think about retiring? First, I would hope not as I usually look for your setup first at NYCC. My childhood LCS in Seaford had told me that once he passed 70 he got to a point that he didn't enjoy lifting long or short boxes as much as he did when he was 50. At what point do people say that they have had enough? I have seen what all of the dealers do behind the scenes at cons and things, and it really is back breaking labor that is often glamorized by customers that think... oh, 'that's easy."
  3. Most of them have a nonrefundable deposit and then you get the item after it is paid for. I've seen terms as much as 20% in the sales threads. You know who is good with the terms in matters like this? I am pretty sure @shadroch has mentioned things about layaway and time payments.
  4. For the record I did not report anything. I find it amusing and a chance to take a stroll down memory lane. I did not go through the whole thread but this was around the time I was starting to shop for another AF15. The first two I had purchased in person. This one was going to be through online purchasing so it was really nerve wrecking trying to decide the best way to shop given the price.
  5. I agree with you that it should not be done, but I know that it has been done before in the past. For example, I know Snyder offered a board member here time payments on a piece of art and I believe Burkey has done that also with art. As a kid I once wanted to buy a $100 book and my LCS allowed me to pay off the book over time. But those are all either with reputable people are in a physical location. My LCS was not going to screw me over $100. But as an adult... and over the internet... I would not be comfortable with that.
  6. As a seller and as a buyer I strongly recommend never doing time payments on eBay. There is nothing to stop someone on eBay from either end to claim that only the initial payment was for the item. This is basically one scenario that I saw... you sell the book... accept time payments. Once the time payments have been made, the buyer says the item is not described. The time may have elapsed on the initial payment. You will run into a confusion as far as PayPal is concerned when it comes to what is owed to whom. I have seen that go sour in a facebook argument over time payments on certain toys. It's a bad idea. If you have time payment and it is not with someone you implicitly trust like a Storms or Reece or Dale or one of those guys I would not do it... just charge it to your credit card and pay it off. If someone is less than honorable there are a few ways that someone can get burned. Some will say to draw up a contract some will say this and that... personally I would avoid it. When I have chased big books I saved the money and then went shopping.
  7. Nope. I did not offer any cleaning services. Go back and reread. “My thread”. 😂 This guy is phenomenal.
  8. Wrong that I, personally, at the point of writing that, could think of anyone off hand? If you are going to try and troll, could you at least try to make sure your responses make sense? It will make it so much more entertaining.
  9. Proving once again, just like in your debut, that you have poor comprehension skills. I said, I had to clean my kitchen floor. You will get there though... keep trying.
  10. I've seen Wantagh become Wah-n-tag-ah-wah
  11. The foil is still commanding a decent chunk of change. Congrats on the 9.8! There is a lot hinging on this movie coming out with comic speculation being on the lowest end of the spectrum... Personally I believe the entire health of the property itself relies on the success of Snake Eyes. It does not have to be a critical success, but it must be a money maker and give reason for people to purchase toys. If that happens all associated things will feel that trickle effect and maybe GI Joe will get the retail support of at least Transformers and whatever the state of Star Wars is currently in.
  12. All of my eBay international orders (run through GSP) are experiencing some type of holds and delays from the immediate point after GSP center has shipped them out.
  13. I might have to place an order and make a run to Bluepoint Brewery out in... Bluepoint (Patchogue area) Side note: I love watching the rest of the nation try to pronounce Long Island villages and towns named after Native American tribes. Here have a good read: https://www.tripsavvy.com/how-to-pronounce-long-island-place-names-2227181
  14. Very true. There are a couple of reasons that packages may not be scanned at the point of departure. Yes, it might be out of laziness. In other cases it might be due to sheer volume of packages at a given point and it might be more efficient to pass them along to sorting and have it be scanned at the next stop. The risk of that though is for the package to become lost between the point of departure and sorting. I always make sure the packages are scanned and want that receipt. If they tell me that they will get to it, I politely say that I have no problem waiting as I need that receipt. Now we all know that we don't actually need the receipt. However, the receipt guarantees that it was scanned. I went through this dropping off a giant lego set at Walgreens the other day. They have a Fed Ex drop off there and I understand that they were short staffed but I was not leaving that set around until it was scanned so I could have proof through the tracking that they had taken possession of it.
  15. I believe that Nik passed shortly before I was lurking in 2010 so I missed out on a lot of that.
  16. This came up actually with the clerks at the post office. I had remarked how despite the stay at home orders around the nation that I was seeing a sudden surge in sales. I remarked that people must be bored and just looking for things to buy online. Post office people told me that they have been packaging more packages than usual and they believed it. Think about it, with everyone staying home, now even more so, online sales are going up while brick and mortar is obviously in a decline. The Post Office is handling a lot of it.
  17. hm... between the greatest hits thread and the inside jokes for comics general thread... I wonder if we could have a March Madness type thing to determine what the best CG event has been...
  18. I cannot think of anyone off hand but I can think of instances like Reece and MCS where their progeny are being groomed to take it over if they want.
  19. Wasn't there an incident a few years where Metropolis or another dealer caught a guy shoplifting at a con and tracked them down?
  20. I thought he redeemed himself. Too bad. I don't get the Lucas thread... why he would do that... whatevs.
  21. Look at em... he is staring so intently at the art.
  22. My Hulk 181 PGX 6.5 came back a CGC 9.0 after Joey pressed it. To be fair, I knew PGX screwed up on the grade as it was too nice for a 6.5. Never know...
  23. Ha - I was actually thinking of picking up a 9.8 last night. It's not a book that pops up as often as you think though. It's one of those, "I know there are plenty out there" books but all I keep seeing are 9.6's. When I do see a 9.8 now it is going for the higher end of the spectrum. Is it really a $600 book in 9.8? At that price I would be satisfied owning a 9.6 again.
  24. You can find him on YouTube, eBay and other places... if ye shall look, ye shall find.
  25. He has a few things going for him, where despite the scenario you present, he will still find it profitable to continue. Let's say he takes that 9.0 book, cracks it, and lists it as a 9.2-9.4. How many of the winning bidders are actually going to file claims? I doubt everyone will. Remember the bidders do not know one another and have no real way of reaching out to one another to compare notes. So I envision the following scenarios: Seller satiates the complainant winning bidder by offering a partial refund Seller is able to convince that eBay / PayPal that he advertised a 9.2-9.4 and since grading is subjective and CGC graded it a 9.0 that he is not far off. We have seen stories where this has worked. Seller is able to convince the buyer that they are one of only a few issues and that maybe the buyer needs to send it in for a press or something else or that CGC was off by .2 that day. By no means do I approve of what he is doing but I believe that this guy will continue to do this / business as usual. I don't see him stopping for a good long time.
