  1. Nothing spectacular this weekend recently. Did went to yard sale and got a small lot of Whitman Disneys.
  2. Great! Will go see the Martian movie with friends in October.
  3. I recall that there was one scene while I watched a trailer of Fear TWD. it showed one guy boarding a bus going out on its path to somewhere. Not the chubby kid, but a man with a hood over his head. I get to think after watching the first and second episodes ... might this hooded guy be the "patient Zero" carrying the zombie virus? After all, the new short series is taken place in L.A. right? TWD series took place in Georgia. As well the same with the other cities. Maybe I'm being silly in thinking that? Hey it's a TV show to have fun watching anyway! Whatever...
  4. The first episode was quite good. Can't wait for next one, as I wanna see where or how virus come from. I understand this new series is supposed to be a short series? It's said to end in Oct 4th before the Walking Dead season begin.
  5. Today I went to 2 places in morning ... one was a yard sale and another a local small flea market. I found many Whitham variants with Canadian price 75 cents (12 of them) and a few others. At flea market, I had found 5 old comics - all thriller/horror themes (Marvel and GK) which is nothing to say but fun to read. Here are the Whitmans in photos:
  6. Man, if those Archies were pre-1965, you should've grabbed them 1+ I would!
  7. Note the bold sentence... doesn't that sound like he's begging us to pay up in attendance? Sig fees?
  8. Brought about 2 dozen of comics from him. All at great prices, good grades and fast shipping. (thumbs u You rock, my friend! I'm happy like the grinning cat!
  9. That's because first appearances weren't that popular back then, and it was the Number One Issues that everyone was after. It wasn't until the mid-80's, when the sportscard dealers invaded comics with their "rookie card" mentality, that first appearances really skyrocketed. That was possibility true what you said about the "rookie card" mentality back in the mid-80s. I remembered many sportscard dealers tried to enter the comic book collecting community, and added their idea in there. During my collecting days, I was only after #1 issues and full runs, not the 1st appearances. Then I get the wind of this idea. I took time with my thoughts and realized that there is some value to the idea. So, I begin to check with 1st appearances onward. Now it's everywhere all over gone crazy! Back to the Star Wars #1 ... yes it was released before the movie come out. I did brought #1 and 2 before I get to see the movie then.
  10. This. Are the two of you sure about this? I remember the Star Wars comic book did not catch on until issue #3 was out or around the time the movie debuted. I remember Star Wars #1 were already going for $10 or more at the time. If there was any hoarding done, it was probably not done by the collectors of the day. Sure, there were more copies available in the marketplace afterwards, but these were most likely from unsold initial returns sitting in the distributor's warehouses which were now being actively hunted down. This was probably one of the first "off the shelf" books to go up in price like that so quickly and was most likely one of the first books to start the subsequent hoarding that would become commonplace with Modern books. Anybody remember Dazzler #1, now that was a really hoarded book. This... and THAT! I do remember the days when Star Wars #1 and Dazzler #1. As a kid ... I went for the treasury edition of Star Wars because it was bigger with my $1.00 allowance. Dazzler #1? I remembered watched many people brought in number of 5-10 copies at the comic shop the day it come out. Actually - as I recalled, the hoarding (of comics) begin earlier back then.
  11. I used to read them when I was young. Some of my favourites were Scary Tales, Space stories and some odd titles. Six Million Dollar Man was one among these I had read. Now the question which I've been told and wanted to confirm in here. I was told that the Charltons in the early 1980s were in low print run to the point when they stopped and went gone. Was that true? I have about 50 books here - most are Western theme like Billy The Kid and Gunfighters, some in war theme.
  12. Great find! Now the real treat is to find the actual original six-bottle case with the Terry comic still fasten around the bottles. That would make a good conversation point in your "man cave" room. (thumbs u
  13. Today I went to two yard sales and found these comics. A few little keys but for what I paid - no complaining At least, I get to read great classic stories! Tom Cat was one of my first books in reading when I was a kid. This one in photo - I got that for 25 cents.
  14. You're lucky to be finding quality books. Around here, I have to deflate about one guy a week on kijiji (craigslist) who thinks they can sell 2000 issues of drek for $5000. Yes, I see these type of ads by sellers trying to sell their dreks for high dollars on CL and kijiji everyday. There is one guy selling one comic per ad daily It's a matter of having patience while sorting out ads online to make a "hit"
  15. Looks like I will be going to a small local comic con as a co-dealer in partner with my friend in July. Waiting for the coordinator (of the local con) to email me new update and put in request to rent a table. As we will be sharing the cost - I told him we should go for wall table which is $10 more. Been some years since I last did a show by selling my comics. That is why my friend come to me for help because I had experience. This is his first ever in trying to sell his comics. He got about 4-5 long boxes of derks and few goodies. I told him to start get his boxes filed to nice alphabetical order. They will go under the table (cheap deals) ... mid-level good books with small keys on table. Bigger keys/high grades on wall, of course. Which come to mind, Anyone local in Vancouver have a wall stand that I can borrow for one show? Thanks (thumbs u
  16. Got a real nice copy off eBay last week. Action Comics #262 was said by seller to be a VF. But upon getting this in my hands ... it looks more like one grade higher with off-white/white pages. Front cover has high gloss with good colors. Did good paid below market value
  17. There was a huge blocks-wide yard sale near my place. They do that every year to support by community funding for the local studium building to keep operating in service. I went by bike to check out. I only find some cheap comics for $1.00 ea - nothing spectacular to say... one is a Rai #2 (early Valiant), one is a Red Circle comics issue. However, I did found a great bargain - a wall file folder cabinet for $2.00. You know the type where most offices put folders in there for "in" and "out"? That is the one I got, enough about 100 comics to be filed in all folders. That makes a great setup to sell comics. it's 5 ft tall - looks almost brand new.
  18. Amazing that you managed to get a reply from Ditko ... that's something not easy to do. Sad that he is still bitter after all the years. He has his reasons, I guess. I noticed something interesting in his letter... he did say not interested with comic book superhero characters turned into movies or tv series. But what of his other artwork in other comic book companies that he worked with? Charton was one that he did a lot of fantasy/sci-fic stories. I believe Altas is another he worked under also. Wondering if I wrote to him about these works ... might I have a shot in getting him to sign one of the books? If only I know where to mail the letter!
  19. Never thought I'd see 100 pages on legal size scanners. That is a lot of post scanning!
  20. Today - went to 2 yard sales. First one was no good but did find 3 Batman comics with signatures. Second yard sale was lot better. Found Superman #18 (Doomday). Did saw X-Factor series but no #5 & 6! I got there later and not early. At least I got one box for $20 - about 100 comics spilt with my friend. The books for $10 in the photo.
  21. Ah, that was a good book l read years ago in high school. That was in the 80s. Little scary the way Orwell is saying in his writing. Well guess what... we are sort of living in this idea! Big Brother is already here
  22. Got a email from my LCS today - they said my new statue "Hawkgirl" will come tomorrow.
  23. ... and raise another question: How many times Harvey would stamp the first page of the book for the "file copies"? Given that we know there are boxloads upon boxloads of file copies out there. I've wondered how they can call them "file copies" when there is nothing to see on first page. I have many Harvey file copies here. Yes, the earlier the number of titles, harder the copies to be found.
  24. I enjoy checking out this thread. Always something new found by someone. Haven't found anything good around yard sales here ... the season had ended, it gets colder already. But there are still classifieds ads to check.
  25. I enjoy seeing what other people got their comics slabbed. But yeah... this thread can be a love/hate thing when I "click" on it to see.
