  1. Went through them at Fan Expo. I did not appreciate their customer service. They will eventually get your book back. If you're submitting for a signed book and getting it pressed, then the book could take months, not to mention cost you a small fortune in the end. Frankly IMO, it's a big turnoff for encasing a book anymore.
  2. If you buy comics for the sole purpose of reading then it's a problem. Still these methods take up disk space and there are digital services and TPBs that make sense economically and for quality. As a collector these sites get me hooked on buying more comics for both modern and back issues. 1. I can see the covers and variants and like the story so much that I decide I want a copy. It also steers me away from the drek. 2. I like to read my copies digitally anyway and prefer to preserve my print copies. 3. The more I read the more I collect. It brings out the completionist tendencies in me.
  3. Officially bummed with the exchange and shipping rates This collector is just about fed up of getting squeezed by the man and the system. I don't know what conspiracy is afoot but my collector spending is deeply affected. I usually tolerated the extra percentage but now things are out of control. Quite literally the shipping alone can surpass the total of the books themselves. I am from Canada but I don't see the climbing rates helping anyone.
  4. I am going to take a stab at this one. Comic book movie/tv show fatigue. I for one couldn't care less about keeping up with most of the shows. I was dedicated to Gotham, DD, and Agent Carter before it was cancelled, and even I can't keep on top of all those series. I saw some JJ, and IF, and personally was not impressed. It seems to me, they are employing the same CB tricks to pump their tv show ratings. Other than DD, I refuse to be hooked on anything. Batman had the most meaning for me but I absolutely detest B. Afleck as an actor. DC and Marvel are both guilty of the same ploys. From a collector standpoint, I will only put money in the back issues. I rarely plunge in to the modern book market anymore. Digital sales and TPB make the most sense for a reader standpoint.
  5. titling-at-windmillls-259-what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-marvel-comics-anyway Here's someone's take on their downfall.
  6. Maybe the solution is to just move away from corporate mentality. Dare I say that capitalism isn't always best. Instead of going for the short money as fast as you can they could work on actually building a franchise with a long term goal. I think other industries suffer from this problem as well. I agree with others. They could share some residuals with the artists for new characters. Lowering the price point per comic and branching out back to newsstand outlets would be a great idea to reach a larger market as well.
  7. If we're talking awful comics., most Marvel moderns give me a lot of trouble just to complete. i remember buying a Creepshow comic as a kid that really wigged me out. I can't remember the issue but thought to myself WTH did I just buy.
  8. Marvel's Falling Sales Marvel VP blames diversity for falling sales Personally, I think hollow stories and never-ending series renumbering is killing them.
  9. DD 181 still stands out at the best superhero story ever for me. It touched every nerve a comic book ever could. ASM 121 was tripe for me. ASM 122 and the death of Capt Stacy was much better.
  10. BA 12 ho hum story mostly about Batgirl and little or nothing about Harley
  11. Not really upset about it but I haven't read Sandman yet.
  12. Read an FF the other day that said Johnny married a Skrull thinking it was Alicia that was pretty messed up.
  13. There were some comiconnect and heritage auctions for 9.8s and 9.6s DDs that were going at some really high prices IMO. Certainly that is a shocker, but then we never see those grades for certain books become available very often and collectors just seem to think 'I gotta have it'.
  14. I remember it being around $35, but the last time I bought something I was quite shocked. $70 wouldn't surprise me. In general, the shipping and exchange rate prices have climbed so high that I am extremely choosy before buying something. On the bright side, I seem to have a lot more money pooling my purchases in one big order. I hope to buy one or two keys buy the end of the year.
  15. There are some V1 DDs that are nothing special with respect to keys that I still have trouble finding in the grade I need. They come around now and then, and sometimes in 9.8 which collector's throw crazy prices at. So I just keep waiting...
  16. Thanks guys. I like the early DDs Badger. Congrats on getting the 86 you wanted Rob. I don't know if the inside pages are white. I took a slight hit in the grade of the books but I find these ones hard to find for some reason, or they become available in 9.6/9.8 and the auctions go to crazy prices. Still a lot of books left for me to find though.
  17. Two more I needed. Still trying to complete my list.
  18. I've had such a rotten week I'd put up a pornographic image if I could
  19. I'm going to miss Capaldi. Other than the fact that he needed to speak louder I had nothing against him. I think they believe a younger face will draw in the ratings again. Personally, I'm tired of the goofball doctors. I like someone strong-willed and crafty. My fav episode with him is the one where they broke into the most top secret bank in the universe to steal something. I can't remember the name.
