  1. I agree that in the Superman #17 looks like Tojo, here it seems CGC has made a mistake. But on the Master #29 posted earlier it’s Hirohito, and the difference is marked (it seems to me) by an elaborate uniform, which maybe was unique as he was the emperor. Hirohito, in general, had somewhat more graceful features (being also thinner, when he was young), so this may be another element to look at.
  2. Shirley was an artist, he carefully choose the three little ducks eyeliner green, to match their hats… I have just seen it…
  3. Yes, they are also featured in the short story "The Honesty Ray", within. I love this issue, but it usually is out of my price range…
  4. This thread is great, we should compile a full list and keep it updated. Slym is right: non-US stamps are bound to have any kind of date; surely there are a great deal of italian ones -- and they can’t be faked as they have full information on them (about the distributing newspaper agency, etc.). I am sure I have a number in my collection, and if they annoy me (I sometimes like them, sometimes not) I usually try to replace them. Right now I have these two available: Doctor Strange #181 - 30 Sept. 69 Strange Tales #152 - Nov. 66 I also have a Forever People #1 - 30 Jan. 72 but I’d need to replace it if I sell it. Also, my old Hulk #181 (I no longer own it, but the buyer is a boardie so I can address to him) had a 30 Aug. 75 stamp:
  5. Love this one… And I’m waiting for my Boy Comics #4…
  6. Just wished to say that for those who might be interested I started a small sales thread of italian editions (mostly Marvels) in the Misc section of the Marketplace. (thumbs u
  7. Can you point me in the direction of any more books he covered for?I really liked the last one I posteds art.Very much!.I had not heard of him before, was wondering if any info on him would spring up here.If you could find any and grant the time,I would like to see more of his art in any medium! Try a Google search with "Luca Poli" and Marvel and Italia: http://www.google.it/search?hl=it&q=%22Luca+Poli%22+marvel+italia&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=zj-jUc7eE7OQ7Aa-pIDIBA&biw=1657&bih=969&sei=0D-jUb2iAsqu7AbBmoD4CA#imgrc=_ Some work pops up, like this one:
  8. Curious that those have Luca Poli covers. He is an italian artist/graphic designer but they never used them in Italy, as far as I know…
  9. Those are awesome, and from #13 onwards up to some point they all have exclusive Romano Scarpa covers (#33 has a sweet Luciano Bottaro cover – reprints "The Plumber's Helper" from 1938), drawn specifically for that edition. I think I have that one…
  10. Crimson Dynamo… Welcome, you’ll quickly start to see what made Marvel… Marvel. Not to despise DC, but it’s a different conception…
  11. Love the german #67 – one of the few books I’d love to have in that edition as well. Did not know you were interested in first issues not featuring the original covers (all the italian #1s are – Uomo Ragno, Thor, Fantastici Quattro - only Daredevil uses more or less the original one).
  12. In Italy, there is a great 1960 Mickey Mouse story which was originally titled "Topolino e la droga diabolica" ("Mickey Mouse and the diabolic drug"). "Droga" was a generic term up to the 1960s, which was not so stygmatized yet, but since the 1970s saw a peak in drug use and drug problems when the story was subsequently reprinted it was titled "Topolino e la polvere diabolica" ("MM and the diabolic powder"). Here’s the INDUCKS entry: http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=I+TL++236-BP P.S. BB, I sent you a PM for the National #18 scan, have you seen it? (thumbs u
  13. Make an extra mile and make it 102. #101 and #102 featuring Morbius are worth the effort!
  14. Who cares about the legal dust? Capt. Marvel stories are more than often awesome (at least those in the Marvel Family, which I am more familiar with)! (thumbs u
  15. Early… up to which point, Roy? Just curious as I love Captain Marvel…
  16. I thought you collected raw… Love the Subbys, I have this one too… (thumbs u
  17. Oh, right, how much I loved it! It‘s really no easy task to pick one…
  18. This is my favorite Marvel Fanfare issue (for the second story, Son of Satan and Patsy Walker). The Steve Gerber Shanna story is also awesome.
  19. Maybe because I read it not long ago, A Christmas for Shacktown (FC 367) may be my favorite (although, granted, it is a bit preachy). That’s why it’s so good. For me, well I think it may be one of the earliest, pre-Uncle Scrooge, but there are just too many and I haven’t re-read them in years. Also "In old California?", that one is really very peculiar.
  20. This thread is just to notify of sales in the marketplace (not esternal venues), so I guess it won’t be a problem to create an similar one in the other sections.
  21. Last ASE issues are the tough ones #48 (featuring Dracula) being among the scarcest. I also think I miss that Conan (I have an almost full midgrade run)…
  22. Pif is not "obscure" by any means. In France it probably peaked to print runs much like those of Spider-Man or Astro Boy for the japanese.
