  1. Oh! That's weird. You can only upvote once. I just assumed that the same would be true of downvoting. I have turned off all of the down voting until that gets sorted out.
  2. Does this just mean make the contrast colors and/or borders around quoted text stand out more?
  3. Yes, you should use the voting at the top of the thread page, not the ones next to the replies. I'll try to clarify the wording above.
  4. I would go to the change request forum and start a very simple single issue item that people can upvote. Something like: Please choose less bright background colors with good text contrast colors so that long reading sessions on the boards are easy on the eyes.
  5. Did you see the voting controls at the top? I want to make sure people can upvote these as they like (i.e. no permission problems preventing that).
  6. I broke my own rule by referring to two things at once - white space and font size. I'm going to edit it to be less specific so people don't have to feel like they are explicitly voting for a font size reduction.
  7. Hi all, I made a new board for change requests. It's a question & answer style board, which means that at the top of each thread you can upvote "questions" (or feature requests). The idea here is to start a thread WITH ONLY ONE SINGLE CHANGE REQUEST (to keep the voting clean) and let the rest of the members vote up the things they would really like to see. DON'T CLUTTER IT UP WITH USELESS JUNK PLEASE. You will just bury the serious requests. ONLY ONE SINGLE CHANGE PER THREAD PLEASE. Or we won't know what to prioritize. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT WE WILL DO THE CHANGE. No matter how many votes it gets. Some changes are too impractical to do. But this will give us a clear way to solicit what needs the most attention. OUR TOP ATTENTION IS ON MERGING ACCOUNTS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAD MIGRATION ISSUES. So just know that is the case. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/81-change-requests-and-voting/
  8. Make each item in the list of threads in a forum a little more dense / less tall so that there is less scrolling on both desktop and mobile. Description: When you visit a forum like Comics General, you can see a list of threads. If there is a lot of white space and/or a larger font size used on each item, then a list of 30 posts will be much longer than if there was less white space. This is a request to adjust the layout so that each thread in the list of threads occupies less space on the screen, allowing you to see more threads at once on a single screen before scrolling.
  9. Looks more to me like an even split - low side vs. high side, with a small number in the middle. How is that obvious that people think more is better? I do think people want more density in general, though.
  10. White areas and colors - I assume we'll offer some options here, but I haven't spoken to the designer. I made a little experimental theme that I tweaked colors on as a way to get feedback on some changes, but all I discovered is that I'm not a designer, so I took it back out. Amount of posts per page - I adjusted that upwards a bit this morning, but I think what people are asking for is DENSITY not total # per page. Have to defer to the designer on that one. I wouldn't know where to tweak it anyway. I'm sure we'll look into it, though.
  11. Hi all, I've tweaked a few things that are worth noting: I found a way to reveal the signature settings, and you'll find a link at the top of the page on the right to get there I added a "Forum Jump" drop down to make it easy to navigate between major forum areas without having to go UP and then back DOWN I added a plugin that places a navigation option in small text on the bottom right of the page (just above the footer) and on the top left (just below the header) called "Jump To" which gives you a way to go straight to a specific forum. It takes a couple of clicks, which I don't love, but it's better than not having it. I added a plugin that puts a small envelop next to the "report post" link at the top of every post. This allows you to quickly quote that post in a PM to the author. WARNING: it's a little annoying to add your own text. You have to click at the bottom of the quote text and then add enough new lines to get out of the quote box and add something new. Not ideal, but still handy.
  12. Just for your reading amusement... and mine... This was the last time we made a big change to the boards... you know, those ones that everyone loved and thinks these new boards are much worse... except back then we hated the 2007 upgrade too. I know! It doesn't mean your complaints aren't valid! They're valid. We have work to do and things to tweak. Still, it's fun perspective... right? ...?
  13. @Jayman the main way to do it is just to hit the quote button, OR to highlight some part of the text with your mouse, hover over it and hit the "quote this" hover menu item. You can add an a mention (like I did in this post for you) to help prompt them with a notification, but they will generally get notified anyone simply because you quoted them. - Although they may have adjusted their notification settings to turn off the notification.
  14. Some people, given their screen resolutions, have felt that the sticky header at the top is too big. For now, I've turned off the sticky header, to make sure people have enough room on the screen for threads.
  15. Oooh! Did anyone notice that you can highlight the text in someone's post (any part of it) hover over the highlight and click "quote this" to quote JUST that part in a reply? That's nice.
  16. @Columbia Comics When you click on the bell at the top to see notifications, you will see small text at the upper right of the pop up that says "notification settings". Adjust to your heart's content.
  17. Oh, let's see.... Things I like. Point-based moderation system Moderation ticket queue @Architecht mentions in posts by name Notification system that is highly configurable Improved boards search Private message search, sort, filter Mobile / responsive design Faster performance (so far - I was worried about that one, confident but cautious) The activity feed in the upper right - customizable to view one long stream of anything you want to track on the forums Hiding posts A rich plugin system waiting to be tapped for all kinds of cool funtionality An awesome tagging system Single sign on with the grading sites Easier image uploads Grading-company-specific message boards Gallery functions Not turned on, but some cool kind of blogging and other tools that we might use Some cool things like an automatic email of popular threads this month that we might turn on Real-time notices of replies and messages, etc. without having to refresh a page Social media links I'm sure I could think of more, but why not leave an even 20 for now.
  18. Look for the red up arrow in circle in the lower right.
  19. I locked this topic just because there is a better place to get answers. As someone else said, please go here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/78-post-your-questions-about-the-new-boards-here/
  20. Putting up threads that don't meet the guidelines and then causing the moderators to keep watching them to see if they eventually do creates extra work for moderation for zero reason. So while threads will sometimes get updated quickly enough, and moderation will sometimes notice that they are no longer in violation - there will be no guarantee of that. If someone puts up a thread that doesn't meet guidelines, they are taking a risk that it will be pulled - not because the policy will be to remove threads that are were EVER in violation, but because the late compliance may get missed. That isn't a moderation problem, it's a posting problem. That having been said, I'm not encouraging moderators to pull threads just because they used to be in violation. However, if someone makes a habit of failing to be compliant and fixing it later, they will eventually be warned to stop it.
  21. That's silly. +1 If the posts are now complying, they are now complying. Edit and removal by moderation crossed in mid stream. If you put up a post that doesn't comply with the intent of editing it later, that's the risk you take. Better and cleaner to do it right to begin with.
  22. If you put the post up, and then went back to edit it to comply with the rules, that's probably why it was pulled. Posts should comply when they go up rather than straggling along afterwards.
